Amazing location, great service, tasty food.
Stayed in a gazebo about 5 meters from the sea. 30$ per night including 3 buffet meals. One of the best places I've been in my visits in 42 countries.
Book in advance as it is usually fully booked.

A trip Barry's Place on Atauru Island is a must do. The place instantly makes you relaxed. Barry's friendly and laid-back hospitality helps you unwind and enjoy the simplier things in life. The snorkling off the island is fantastic. Barry has snorkling gear for hire ($3 per person) and a outrigger boat takes you to the best spots (a few minutes journey) for another $3 per person. The accommodation is great - nothing fancy but clean and comfortable with a hammock to while away the hours. The food is nice (especially if someone catches a big fish that day) and the staff friendly. Take your own entertainment (eg books and games) as apart from snorkling or diving there isn't much to do. A trip to the Bonecas de Atauro (the Doll factory) by bumpy tuk tuk probably isn't worth it for most people - but we enjoyed the purchases we made there.

How lovely to stay at a small resort where the owners respect and consideration for the local environment and his staff is as great as his consideration for his guests.
It's such a lovely vibe at Barrys place - very comfortable - clean and well kept, chilled out and comfortable whilst also totally non-fancy and without unnecessary frills.
Barrys support of his local community is legendary, and his stories of how the resort came about and his experiences in running it are heartwarming and show his passion for the place.
Mario his local "manager" is just fantastic - ever helpful and with a wise head for one so young.
Thanks Barry for giving us a great 3 day stay before we went back to the mainland for a motorcycle adventure of a lifetime with Timor Adventures.
The great day walk over to the fishing village of Adara with Nelson as our guide will stay with me for a long time.

Thanks so much and hope to visit you again some time.

This place is popular with expats in the weekends and that explains why it is always fully booked. It is a collection of thatched roof huts that are built with strong permaculture principles. There's no hot showers, you just pour water onto yourself in traditional mandi-style and no water is used in the compost toilet. Three meals a day are provided and they are mostly hearty Indonesian fares served with local Timorese coffee. There's not much to do on the island so the hammock in front of every hut is handy to while the hours away listening to the waves and reading a good book. You could hire a tuktuk to take you to the main village and visit the Atauro boneca doll factory. A short stroll completes a tour of the village. If you're looking for complete isolation and a place off the beaten track, Atauro is one of them and there's no better place to stay than Barry's.

Room Tip: If you want to turn in early, try to get a hut further away from the communal dining hall as the occ...

I escaped to Atauro for a weekend during a 2 week work trip to Timor Leste. I couldn't actually get in to Barry's place, but Barry booked me in to a guest house run by a women's cooperative at the village about 5km down the road, and invited me to spend the days at his eco-lodge. An amazing experience. The guest house was simple but comfortable - think I was the only person staying there, and the women running it speak no English, but it was clean, had running water, power in the evenings, and a little Italian café where they serve homemade pasta. And it was such a treat to wake in the morning and wander through the village to be greeted by broad smiles and waves. Barry's was stunning - very simple accommodation but clean, friendly, and a view to die for - and all developed with an eco-friendly philosophy and in partnership with the local community. Good food, a power board for charging phones and computers if you really need to, snorkelling just off the beach, and Barry will organise hikes and longer boat trips for you if you want to. What more could you want?

Room Tip: Barry's does get booked out - book early, and if you can't get in don't be afraid to ask...

Very pleasantly surprised with the standard of accommodation.
Not flash but well built, very clean and a fantastic place for us to do nothing in comfort (or do as much as you want).
Staff all very friendly and Barry a real nice bloke.
The price of beer and soft drinks is very user friendly, ice cold and coolers available.
Have travelled through a lot of SE Asia and India staying in a variety of accommodation and this rates very highly.
Keep it up!

I love staying here, so relaxing and quiet. Simple eco lodge but very well done in all aspects. Food great - never went hungry. Very helpful staff, especially Barry himself. Loved the atmosphere at the lodge. Very well priced for an all inclusive stay. Swimming, snorkelling, fishing and walks, its all there. Easy transport arrangements to the island. Have been four times now, and will go again.

Room Tip: All rooms good but my friends like staying in the gazebos on the beach front.
