The place is designed for a large number of pilgrims to sit and pray/watch the evening prayers to the Mother Ganges--the "Ganga Harathi pooja"---in the monsoon months when the water flow is copious, this place could be heavenly in the evening---the mountain,s the river, the thousands of lamps and the prayers !

Wonderful location to observe or participate in an arti - evening celebration where fire is used for worship and candles are floated down the Ganges at sunset. Not so crowded as to be distracting, it was quite lovely.

We went down to the Ghat in the early evening just before sunset. This is the best time to go as many people make their way down to the river for prayer and meditation. The atmosphere is surreal and as an outsider it was an incredible look into a different culture. A magical experience!

While in Rishikesh, you can go to the Triveni Ghat...

In the Morning - For a Holy Dip
In the Evening - For the Daily Aarti (Prayers)

Or any other time - just to soak in the tranquility and the surrounding beauty.
