“Enhanced my Koh Chang Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2014

Located on the BangBao pier, at the South/SW corner of the island, which is a nearly 45 min taxi/tuktuk ride from the ferry (we paid 200baht per person for the drive down). Although there is a 7-11 where the tuk-tuks drop off, the feel of the area was authentic (returning from the beach, we passed a large warthog roaming near the pier).

At the pier's entrance, you walk ~150m past a variety of shops and restaurants, and Buddha View is on the right. The property is well-designed aesthetically, with a feel between a well-loved hostel and a boutique hotel. Waking up or winding down a day in the restaurant area was effortlessly relaxing... there are these table where the flooring has been removed so that your legs dangle freely above the sea. For me, the location was a perfect mix of isolated yet with ammenities: during the day, we walked 20 min down the road to the beach, wiled away the day swimming and sipping and eating, then returned to choose from a range of restaurants (sushi, thai seafood, western), including the Buddha View itself, where we ate twice. It is important to realize that the property is located within the bay, so the view is more akin to a lake, as you dont get that starting-to-infinity feel of the open ocean.

The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are directly next to the restaurant, and I liked the experience of waking up to see the blue water between the bedroom's floorboards. One negative was thin walls between rooms, but with the right mindset, it almost (almost) adds to the experience. Aircon, fan and hotwater all worked perfectly.

Were I to return to Koh Chang, I might opt for a beachside cottage, if available. But I dont regret staying here, and took away from it an experience that is certainly more than just another place to sleep.

We booked one night and extended for another 3. The place is located on the far south of the island, which is a bit more tranquil. It is situated at the end of a pier which gives it a really nice view on a lagoon.

Buddha view is a combination of a guesthouse and a restaurant. The owners are very nice and welcoming belgian chaps who take a lot of pride in making this place well taken care of and being managed properly.

The rooms (even the fancy ones) are very basic with just a bed (decent), an armoire, airco and a nice bathroom which is almost as big as the bedroom itself. Wifi is working most of the time, speed is fast enough for just browsing and mail.

The restaurant is really well designed in a lounge setup, the menu and the dishes are even better. A bit pricy (in comparison to the average) but worth it. We stayed 4 nights and had diner there 3 times.

The staff is very friendly, attentive most of the times but you will need some patience from time to time as they need some encouragement from the owners (who are there mostly) to guide them to cater to the needs of the guests. Luckily the owners (Jean and Luc) have a keen eye and make sure everybody gets proper service.

My score: 6.5 for the rooms, 8 for the restaurant, 7,5 for the service, 7 for price/value. Final score 7.4

If the rooms would offer more comfort the final score would have been 8 out of 10.

All in all, worth a visit. Recommendable

This place is an acquired taste. For sure, the restaurant is overpriced, the staff have good days and bad days, the staff have no consideration for guests and will stand outside the bedrooms at 7am laughing and joking and sleeptime is most definitely over!

Overall, it's ok, it's not great, but with a little more TLC from the owners, it could be.

The staff were friendly, and this place is right on the pier. It's my first time staying on a place like that, I mean in the middle of the sea so it was a nice experience to be at the Buddha view. The design is really nice, everything is wooden and the restaurant is a nice peaceful place to have a nice meal or drinks and see the ocean. I was kind of worried about the bathroom situation with the shared bathroom single room, but it was OK. If you're really big on privacy it might bother you or if you're staying for a longer time I can see it being annoying because the room is in a wide hallway, with the restaurant and reception on one end and the bathroom and restaurant kitchen on the other. The restaurant does have it's own bathroom though so it's not that bad.

The room isn't luxurious, but you can't beat the price. The place leaves a really good impression with the towels folded into swans and the neat wooden design. Obviously the owner spent a lot on getting the place to look the way it does. the room is not well sealed, so the A/C takes a bit of time to work, but again that's not really a problem as it's more the hotel's electricity bill that suffers. One final thing, the bedside tables were kind of useless since they were made of wooden logs, and you couldn't put small things on them like coins or keys or else they would just fall to the bottom.

All in all, really good place that I recommend and would stay at again if I were to go to Bang bao pier.

This place is run by two belgian guys. Room at 800B with shared bathroom. Two bathrooms at the back next to the kitchen. The whole restaurant can you see you every time you get out of the room. Bathroom was not kept very clean. The bed was just ok, room also noisy. You can hear everything from the resto and neighbours. They have ensuite rooms at 1200B, much better but they threw us out because some belgian friends arrived. All of the sudden it was "overbooked". Yeah right. Restaurant is good but expensive. I liked the location but you will need a motorbike. Nice beach nearby.

Room Tip: Get an ensuite room for sure. Definitely worth the extra 400. Be sure to try the restaurant, it'...

Second time I came here and it was still really good! This time with children and they enjoyed the place too. The restaurant have thai food and a lot of western food too, which is nice when you have kids.
Nice professional staff. Helpful with everything.
Clean cosy rooms and good prices.

Spend a long weekend here with the family and young kid. Because of location, decoration and management style, you get a perfect blend of Thai and European; you're in a Thai fishing village with the resort facing a tranquil bay. Keep in mind this is a guest house still, but the organisation, layout and restaurant put it at the top end of the scale. Building and decoration materials are local, but put together in a way the foreign visitor will appreciate it. The waves, wood, lounge music and view give it a very relaxing touch from morning till evening. The management and staff were lovely and great fun. They were great with the kid too. The dining 'experience' is the most memorable. Prices are indeed higher than in a roadside restaurant, but here you get your food cooked to a tee with excellent service. Dishes are well decorated and extremely tasteful. Many guest come here just to eat in the evenings, including many Thai visitors. Wireless internet is complimentary and good quality, allowing me to get some work done remotely. Buddha view is and will remain my number one choice in Koh Chang.
