Baan Rim Nam Nov 2012

Review of Baan Rim Nam
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Dec 2012
We had our 2nd visit to Baan Rim Nam & this time stayed for 5 nights in the family room.
Yet again they us feel very welcome. The family room is actually 2 aircon rooms with a shared bathroom, ideal for us as a family of 3. The rooms are spacious and clean & although there is no restaurant Ian will do coffee & toast in the mornings. There is also a help yourself fridge containing water, soft drings, beer & alcopops - just leave your empties outside your room & Ian will add them to your bill.
The location is superb; built over the river which is lovely to swim in at high tide. Lie in bed & listen to the clicking crabs scurrying around in the mangroves.
Plenty of restaurants either across the river or nearby on the beach (Tiger Huts do nice food) and in Klong Prao village. Since we last stayed most of the road to BRN has been paved - only a short section is dirt track and easy to navigate on scooters.
If you want a relaxing break in a superb location with friendly hosts then stay here.
We will definately be returning in a few years time.
Date of stay: November 2012
Room Tip: Allrooms look out towards the river except one.

Hi Shitokai

Thanks for the review but more importantly thanks for coming back to stay with us again and dragging your daughter along too. We're getting more repeat visitors each year, so we must be doing something right.

Very nice river photos. Thanks for sharing your holiday snaps with everyone.

Re: your tip about the rooms - yep, just our cheapest room that doesn't have any real view. But it's fine for people who just need a cheap aircon ensuite room.

See you guys again in a couple of years or so.

This review is long over due. I stayed at Baan Rim Nam last New Years (2011-2012) with my husband and 2 teenage kids. I think it was 9 nights and could have stayed longer but unfortunately our time was up in Thailand and had to head home to Canada. Ian was extremely helpful from figuring out our dates, to booking our transfer to the island and picking us up from another hotel on the island (as we arrived a couple days early before our booking). I was worried that the kids wouldn't like it as it was off the beatin path but they both said it was their favorite spot (whewww)! I don't have anything negative to say about this resort. We LOVED it and will for sure be back one day to stay again.

Hi 'N'

Better late than never :-)

Thanks for your review and great to hear that it was the most enjoyable stop during your holiday in Thailand. Also thanks for taking the time to add a few of your photos too.

Hope you & your family make it back here in the future.

We only spent one night here with Ian and family at the end of our time on Koh Chang and wish it could have been for longer - a beautiful riverside setting, with plenty see and do if required or simply lie in the big hammock and relax. Ian was a great help in booking at short notice and also confirming our airport transfer the following day and was great to chat to in the morning after some breakfast overlooking the river. This is a lovely place to unwind and get some true R&R with a beautiful almost deserted beach just a paddle or stroll away. We will be back!

Thanks Simon. Next time you'll have to start the trip at our place rather than end it there. :-)

Just returned to Bangkok after 6 nights with Iain and Mam. Loved my stay here: swimming in the river, boat transfer to the Phu Talay restaurant on the opposite bank, the hospitality of Iain and Mam, the property, and the excellent value for money.

If you want to swim in the river then this time of year is the best time to do it. :-)

Good to meet you 'Cactusjock' and good luck with finding a project to keep you occupied, maybe see more of you in the coming months.

I stayed at Baan Rim Nam in March 2012, for the first time traveling on my own in Thailand. This is by far the best place I stayed in Thailand. Ian and his wife are very friendly and always happy to help and advise you on where to eat, trips etc. The location is excellent, plenty of great restaurants around and an amazing luxury (and reasonably priced) massage place across the river! You can either walk to beautiful Klong Prao beach (great sunsets) or even better, get a kayak! (don't worry, it's only 5 mins away) I stayed 6 days and I only wish I had stayed longer. The guest house is simply perfect, if i ever were to design my dream house, it would look just like Baan Rim Nam. I wouldn't change a thing! A great place to relax.

Thank you Ian, Mam and Santa for making me feel so welcome, I hope to come back soon!

Thanks Lenka.

Not often people call our place the best in Thailand - so delighted that you thought so.

I know it isn't always easy travelling on your own in a new country so we do try to make people who are solo or new to Thailand settle in.

As you say, we're in a quiet location but that doesn't mean to say it's too remote, it just means that getting away from it all is easier than most people think on Koh Chang . . . if you know where to stay :-)

Hope you do make it back here one day.

Ian- thank you for providing a truly fabulous place for us to honeymoon, for your easy going and helpful approach, and for being a truly excellent proprietor!
Baan Rim Nam is exactly how Ian described it on his website and of course even more beautiful in-person. Our only regret was that he left on a trip, which meant we couldn't stay longer!
We stayed in one of the original three rooms and it was excellent- clean, great bed, air conditioning when you wanted it, and very quiet. We overlapped with a couple of other travelers, but Baan Rim Nam seems to draw lovely people and everyone was incredibly respectful, friendly, and while you might hear some footsteps or creaking- it's not a concrete hotel- thank goodness! Ian and Mam live there, it's their home, and that's what it feels like: a friend told you to crash with their pals in Koh Chang because they have a great house with some extra rooms.

Just to give you a bit more of an idea of the flavor of this place- if you want to kayak (and you do), Ian has kayaks that he lets you use throughout the day, unlike all the other hotels in the area that charge a per hour rate. Ian is making a living, but he does it in an incredibly generous and relaxed way. We were grateful to our little guidebook for including Baan Rim Naam as it was a delightful place to stay and we hope to some day go back!

Thanks for the kind words and it's great that you chose Baan Rim Nam as one of the stops on your Asian honeymoon tour. We seem to get a few honeymooners . . . despite the creaking floorboards :-)

Would have loved you to have stayed longer but we had a holiday in Sri Lanka to go on the day after you guys left as we tend to take a few holidays from June - September.
