“One of a kind”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2011

Seldom before I have written a review with such a smile on my face. The Paradise Palms... Let's put it this way: there's no wifi, there's a rocky beach, there's no luxury, and it was rainy season when we'd gone there.
And here's my five stars plus rating for this place. How can that be? I'll tell you why.
First of all there's Matt & Tara, the owners. Tara is just lovely, always smiling, incredibly helpul and nice. Matt is hard to describe, you'd better go and meet him yourself. He's friendly, relaxed, honest, stubborn (in a positive way) and old school when it comes to begging for wifi instead of reading a book. Together they're simply the best hosts one could think of. With them being more family than resort managers, and us being more homecoming mates than paying customers.
We've been lucky enough to stay in the beachfront bungalow. And honestly, we've been around a bit. But this place offers a view to die for. You sit on your balcony and feel like the waves touching your toes. You go to sleep and wake up with the sound of the sea. What more could you ask for?
Ok, they don't give you wifi - but if you're in urgent need of it, just "steal" it from one of the places around. We had more than one open access point.
And yes, it was the rainy season. So what? I like it better this way. Not too hot, always a bit windy, and the rain? Yes, there were a few drops here and then. Come on.
Laundry? Ask Tara. Car? Matt goes for it. Motorcycle? Included anyway.
Fun, great talks, warmth and Thai hospitality? Included.
Bottom line:
If you're looking for five star amenities, better stay away. But if you're into unspoilt nature, genuine friendliness and truely unique places with a wow, then go for the Paradise Palms. Good luck to you, Tara & Matt ! C&J

Paradise palms was recommended by a friend who stayed there last year .
As we are a family of 4 .we were not sure if the right dicision . After contacting matt ( owner ) he was so helpful with the information about the family bungalow ,and arranging the pick up to and from bangkok .
We can only say ,it was a fantastic 2 weeks at the resort .The family bungalow has 2 bed rooms ,and plenty of space for the kids .We rented the 4wd from tara , they have onsite ,as we were not sure of the free motorbike with the kids ,and toured the island & beaches most days .But always returning to the sunset bar for a relaxing beer ,in the tropical gardens.
Thanks to matt and tara & moksuda thier daughter ,we had a wonderful time in their hidden paradise .
Well recommended to all ages !

We spent 10 days here after 4 weeks in Samui and it was a fabulous end to our holiday. Matt and Tara were great and nothing was too much trouble. It is worth going just for one of Tara's fresh fruit salads. The small bar is great for a relaxing drink in the evening before going into town, which is about 10 mins away and has loads of resturants, bars and night life. The bus/taxi is just at the top of the road. If you want 5 star this is not for you, but if you want a great value for money place that is clean comfortable and in a lovely relaxing location try here. It is not a good spot for children which is also a bonus for those who want to relax. Koh Chang is like Thailand use to be before tourism took hold and hopefully it will stay like that for a few years.
We will definitley return here as it is also a great base for exploring the island. Many thanks Matt Tara and Muksidar (hope I spelt that right).

Room Tip: The Bugalow by the sea is nice.

This place was like heaven. Matt and Tara were so friendly and informative. It was really relaxed and friendly, enjoying the beautiful sunsets with a beer from the honesty bar in this wonderful secluded jungle garden right on the sea. They were so helpful and next time I'll be doing the cookery course that everyone said was fabulous, but they could arrange loads of different days out. The bungalows are luxurious and the bathrooms great with loads of hot water. The bungalows each had their own veranda and felt very private. Great location on the island too. Thanks Matt and Tara, I'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Book front bungalow for best views

We were looking for a chilled, comfortable stay without too many frills. It is just right. Matt and Tara are relaxed, open and welcoming; we started with a beer as he took us through the things to do on the island. They couldn't do enough to help us with setting up day trips and giving us space just to chill out whenever we wanted to.

The bungalows are beautiful, lovely bathrooms and great views. The sound of the waves each night were just what we were looking for; with Saffron, a great thai restaurant, just a few minutes walk along the road.

Its private and out of the way enough, to not come in contact with anyone, whilst only being 5 mins on a scooter into White Sands. The scooters are a must, they are great fun, giving you a chance to explore loads of little hidden gems - beaches, restaurants, waterfalls.

Did I mention the 3 foot eel Janine caught on the boat trip. The Thai guys almost jumped over board in excitement. That was a great trip with Matt.

We know why this is rated consistently number one on TripAdvisor and we will definitely be coming back.

I stayed at PP for two nights after leaving Pattaya. It was the perfect way to wind down before heading to Lonely Beach.

If you're looking for lively party atmospheres don't come here. There is basically nothing but relaxation.

Matt and his family are perfect hosts, thanks for looking after me & have a great time in Australia!!

We found paradise palms by chance ,after a horrible week in white sands ,in a resort we booked on line ( bad service ,smelly ) we stumbled across the place after, driving about on the scooter .We fell in love right away ,,and checked in the next day ,the hosts matt and his lovley wife tara and daughter were so nice .Because of this we managed to save
hoilday ,and had a fantastic week ,chilling out on our deck. I would recomemed this small resort to anyone ,wanting to get away from all the hassle ! The beach is rocky ,but we found no one was trying to sell us anything ,just blue sea ,and great sunsets . There are two great resturants right outside the resort also .
