After reserving a room - but without paying - we drove directly to paradise palms. As soon as we got out of the car, Matt greeted us and asked if we needed help with our bags.

At that point, I made a crucial mistake, I said, "Let us take a look at the room." You should know we had every intent of staying at the resort, until Matt (resort owner) flipped out.

He mistakenly thought we didn't want the room. We did and told him so, but he accused us of all sorts of terrible things.

Before we even saw the room Matt attacked us verbally, though I restrained myself from shouting back. When he insinuated that we could leave, we did so immediately.

Matt made us feel very uncomfortable very quickly. We thought he might try to physically attack us....really. Additionally, not to sound too extreme, but in truth this was our experience, he seemed to be either on drugs, alcohol, or in the least has issues with anger management.

After we left, we were so shocked by the experience that we were worried he might pursue and perhaps physically attack us.

While we are in the minority here, if I were you I would never even think of staying anywhere close to Matt.

I had a great time staying here, which I came across on this site while researching some quiet, chilled out places to stay on Koh Chang.

If you want to party a lot, this wouldn't be your ideal place on the island but I mostly wanted to read, swim and eat someplace pretty and quiet so it was spot on for my needs.

Matt did me and my sister a deal on the 'family bungalow' at the rear of the resort which was a little cheaper than each renting a smaller bungalow. The place was huge really - between the two rooms you could comfortably sleep 5-6 people.

Matt, Tara & Mukseda made great hosts, were lots of fun to hang out with in the evening having a beer, or indeed to follow on a run up 'cardiac hill' in the morning. Also nothing was too much trouble when it came to sorting out bookings for onward travel or any activity you might want.

On top of all that, these guys are situated about 3 minutes walk from Saffron restaurant, which served some of the nicest grub I tried on the island (check out their reviews on this site).

Room Tip: unless travelling alone or as a couple, have a look at the family bungalow

Paradise Palms is a relatively small resort with only four bungalows, a nice private beach and superb atmosphere. The place is owned and run by an English expat, Matt and his wife Tara and from the very moment you arrive they make you feel at home. Do not expect luxury (but if you fancy luxury you shouldn't have chosen Koh Chang anyway) but everything you get is straight, honest and decent. The bungalows are spacious and clean, you have hot water (and a really nice bathroom), air conditioning and TV, plus the chance to see all the wonderful sunsets the place has to offer. Koh Chang is mostly covered by jungle, so be prepared that you're always surrendered by things crawling, chirping, slithering and generally living an active life around you. Matt can (and is quite willing) to help in anything you need, and you won't feel awkward about it (in hotels I normally have a problem with asking for help, there is always the feeling that you are asking for something extra and that in some way you should try to make up for it). We have gone for the elephant trekking and the boat trip, but feel free to ask him for advice, he can recommend some excellent things.

Breakfast is not offered but there is an excellent restaurant just a few steps from the resort, you will not regret trying it out.

If you prefer a warm ambiance over the classical style resorts, this is your place. We did not regret it for a single moment.

Room Tip: If travelling during Nov-Dec, try for the sea view bungalow, if you're there in Feb-May, it'...

We chose Paradise Palms after reading the rave reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed.
We booked 3 nights and ended up staying 6, 4 of them in the beach front bungalow. With only 4 bungalows on site, all the bungalows are well situated and private but the beach front one is a standout with the ocean just a stone's throw from the balcony which was perfect and welcome for relaxing on. There is also a bar area, deck chairs, and a deck area for kicking back on and watching the sunsets. Yes, the beach is rocky but there was no problem getting out to the ocean for a swim and the plus side is you have the beach pretty much to yourself, no hordes of tourists here!
Rooms are well equipped and very comfortable with hot water, refrigerator, TV (why? there's the most spectacular show going on right outside), fans and air-conditioning.
The resort is located a couple of kilometres south of White Sands and is very quiet and away from the crowds. Easy to get to White Sands or other parts of the island either by songtaews or by motor bike.
Finally, the charm and success of Paradise Palms is due to the owners, Matt, Tara and Muksada who are delightful hosts. They are down to earth, welcoming and friendly and eager to make their guests' stay a memorable one. Ours certainly was and we hope to return one day.

Paradise Palms is a treasure. Our four nights in the front bungalow were divine, and so much more enjoyable than the previous seven nights in a large, much more expensive resort.

The bungalows are quite big, with everything we needed. The balcony was only a few feet from the water, and the best possible place to watch the sunset. Matt was very helpful, checking in with us each day to see how we were doing. He was full of tips, and readily helped arrange transport back to Bangkok.

We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask for the front bungalow. It is no bigger, but the unobstrcted view is worth th extra baht.

We stayed here four nights and were very lucky: we got the beachfront bungalow, what a great location! We liked the athmosphere there very much. It's a small resort, only four bungalows right next to the house of the owners. it's a quite familiar atmosphere but even though we had a lot of privacy. The bunganlow is really spacious and well furnished, as well as the attached nice bathroom. Tara and Matt are great to their guests: very friendly with a good sense for contact and privacy, they know a lot about the island and could organise a dive trip as well as a boat trip for us during our stay. Unfortunately they don't serve breakfast. But we arranged ourselves with the shops around and the large fridge that we had in our bungalow, like this we had a great breakfast every morning on our balcony, right next to the sea – wow! There would also be restaurants around to eat your breakfast there, if you prefer.
Maybe it's important to know that the beach is pebbly at this area of Koh Chang. But with shoes it's not a problem at all – or even better: take the free snorkelling-equipment that they offer to their guests.
Thank you very much for these great four days that we had at your place!

We read about this beautiful place on trip advisor and we were definitely not disappointed. A wonderful small and cozy retreat with four nice and well kept bungalows, a private rock beach (plenty of spaces for sunbathing if you dont like rocks), a warm and personal athmosphere thanks to owners matt and tara and open sea view. Great fresh fruit breakfast at the resort to start off the day and lunch and/or dinner at the wonderful saffrons next door. Have never felt more relaxed and peaceful after a holiday! We will definitely return and can recommend paradise palms for anyone looking for a relaxing stay at the beutiful koh chang.
