white sands beach bungalow resort

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Nov 2012
Overall, the resort still pleases. The staff continue to improve, within Thai standards. As the bungalows are now over 5 years old, some of the fixtures and fittings are in poor condition. Taps, toilet seats, air-cons units all starting to show distress. Still a better bet than any hotel room though, and the place is right on the beach. You will need to walk for 5 mins before you get to the sand though.
Mabe one day I will stay in a Thai resort where there is no building being done; but I doubt it!!
Date of stay: October 2012
Room Tip: Best bet are the 2 so called "garden view" (newer) bungalows at the far end of the...

We rented a seaview bungalow for 1500 baht per night. Nice view over the pool and the sea. However, the service was dissapointing, the hotel only had 3 madrasses for 7-8 chairs by the pool and seemed uninterested when asking for any assistance. The cleaning was terrible and the toilet was full of ant and excrements. Finally there was a lot of noice early in the morning, which can be a coincidence due to a couple of noicy families staing at the hotel. I have stayed at hotels in Thailand hundreds of times during the last ten years and know what to expect. This was not a positive experience except for the beatiful view and location.

Grand View Resort, is fair deal choice. Offers great location, good breakfast, the staff is friendly (although, most staff speak only the very basic English). The manager cares for his guests and is always there to help in accommodating his guest’s needs.
Definitely a plus, is the resort’s spacious, clean and practical bungalows, decorated with a touch from Asia, they are very spacious, have big and comfortable bedding and the bathroom is huge. Overall, the venue is a comforting place build in a quiet location (at the very end of white sand beach) whilst, at the same time it is only a few minutes walk from restaurants, shops, bars, etc.

Room tip: "sea view" rooms do not have view to the sea, as vegetation, big trees, and distance from th sea front will block your "sea view". In this regard, whether you are in the front row of the bungalows or the second, you will still have a great night's sleep but no sea view!

Stayed with my wife and 6 year old son for a week over Easter. Lively rooms, nice staff, average food which they could improve, relaxed attitude towards kids, very safe feeling and terrific room views of the sea. Couldn't fault the hotel for an easy week. Koh Chang is quiter than Ko Samui but it's all changing in the wrong direction, sad that the islanders don't realise that traditional is what tourists want not cafe latte and donuts. Elephants galore, lonely beach about 15 is south is also terrific.

This place is located at the Southern end of White Sand Beach (cut/paste N12 06.15 E102 16.43 into Google Earth or browser address bar). Any further South the shoreline becomes quite steep and rocky. We stayed in a seaview room which was quiet and had a nice outlook across a narrow lawn to the beach. All the floors and everything in the bathroom (including the bath and washbasins) were made of painted, polished cement which had many cracks, chips and stains. Some of the bathroom towels and bed sheets had cerainly seen better days. There was a nice big flat screen TV with about 100 channels, but ALL were in Thai, mostly infomercials by the look.
Despite charging over THB3000/night (USD100) the staff insisted on cash, otherwise a credit card surcharge would apply. The hotel appears to have fairly lax Thai management, which may go some way to explaining why the whole place has a run-down look about it (tatty pool furniture, dishevelled paving, etc). The restaurant didn’t look very inviting, but there’re plenty of other options within walking distance nearby. The room cleaning staff came about 10:30am each morning and were quite pushy about cleaning our room, even if we'd had a late night and wanted to sleep in. Considering the number of rooms there’s only limited onsite parking. It appeared there was free WiFi in the lobby, with a local paid WiFi sevice available in our room for about THB100/day.
Do yourself a favour and pick up a pre-paid SIM (ask them to activate data) from AIS or DTAC in the arrival area of Bangkok airport. 3G or Edge data is THB1/min or THB49/day.
Probably stay somewhere else next time.
