What a fantastic place, lots of peace and quiet. A very nice place to stay if you want to get away from the stress and touristy tempo that is located on the other side of Koh Chang.

The owners, Cheryl and Julian and the staff treated us like royalty and gave us lots of good info about stuff to do on the Island.

The food is magnificent and they have a great mix between Thai and Western dishes. Nice prices aswell.

We stayed there for the first four days and moved to the other side for the remaning five. Was a good plan for us, can recomend this to everyone.

Thank you "Mr Norway" for taking some time to share your experience of Amber Sands.

These TripAdvisor reviews are so helpful to explain to others that it is peaceful and quiet at Amber Sands and that we don't have lots of shops and restaurants in the area. Guests have to go further afield for those attractions.

We try and set our prices to offer good value for money, so thank you for your comment, that's appreciated. For those prices you're also likely to get much better quality than elsewhere on the island too. Real coffee, butter, jam, mayo, mustard, etc. We're glad you enjoyed the meals!

As a family traveling around the world we are looking for a range of experiences. Amber Sands in Koh Chang, was exactly what we were looking for as a launch into our Thailand Island break. It is a family friendly, chilled, beautiful, comfortably appointed, on the beach, resort! Our experience was great from our initial interaction with Julian via email. They helped out with advice and arrangements on our logistics from Cambodia to Koh Chang and Amber Sands. On arrival we discovered a peaceful, friendly space! The rooms are comfortable and have all a beach holiday or RTW traveller needs. A special mention should be made of the food! They have a good selection on the menu, to meet even a western teenage appetite! The food was great quality. Having traveled extensively around Asia, they provide a perfect mix of great Thai dishes and Western familiarity when you need it. The owners Julian and Cheryl are hands on and around to provide good tips and advice as you plot out you trip. Tip: if you are sufficiently adventurous rent the mopeds, it's a great way to get around!

Thank you macandcoll for taking the time to share your experience at Amber Sands, and for your kind words.

Currently bookings need to be made via email, but one advantage of this method is that we can offer good personal service and advice even before our guests arrive, such as arranging your transfer from Cambodia for instance. And you'll get a prompt reply in English.

Thanks also for your comment on our food. We're receiving more and more compliments on our restaurant which is pleasing to hear because some guests worry that because we are on the quiet side of the island, they may not have a wide variety of choices around this area. We make up for that with our menu choice!

We always love to pass on tips and advice to make our guests' holidays more special, from secret beaches, less traveled roads, or good activities and restaurants. We encourage guests to please ask us anytime.

I was most fortunate to have this little piece of heaven recommended to me by a good friend who knows the owners. This was my second visit to Thailand , but my first to Ko Chang. I wanted to have tranquillity, peace, beauty, friendliness and overall a small piece of heaven. Amber Sands ticked all the boxes. The small nature of the resort lends itself to a friendly atmosphere, but one can still enjoy the solitude. Do not come here if you want to be clubbing and having wild nights. Come here for hours of sunshine,a lovely beach, beautiful gardens, a nice beach to swim, a pool to laze around in( and no mad people hogging loungers!). The food is delicious and there is ample choice. The island is sweet and worth a visit but I was after R & R, and that is what Ambers Sands was all about.

Julian,Cheryl,Debbie and the whole team were VERY accommodating and offered many tips on what to do on the island should you want .Renting a moped is also an idea...should you wish!!

Hopefully, I may return to Amber Sands one day!

Thanks to all for helping to make my 40th birthday trip a wonderful holiday! xx

Room Tip: Choose the beach house, which is about 10m from the sea. I was downstairs, but I suppose the upstair...

Thank you for your kind words and the time you took to write a review CafelatteLondon.

Everybody has their own idea of what they want for their holiday but thanks to all the comments from our past guests on TripAdvisor, most people reading the reviews know what they can expect here. Managing expectations is important to us because there's nothing worse than looking at glossy brochures or websites only to arrive and find something very different.

We are passionate about our quiet tranquil east coast of Koh Chang so we love to share all the little secrets of this unspoilt part of the island with our guests.

We're so glad that our team could help make your birthday special and hope to see you back again one day, hopefully before another big milestone!

Julian and Cheryl have created, in just four years, a wonderful little (eight rooms) resort from a funky little hotel. They've thought of everything and there is nothing that you could want that they haven't provided for. They're on the mostly unpopulated side of the island and that's a very good thing. Someone in a previous post said that when you go to the other side of the island you'll be glad you're on the less populated side. Seconded. The other side is pretty awful, one motorbike rental shop after tourist junk shop after hotel and none of it very pretty.

The open-air restaurant is excellent and you'll have little reason to eat elsewhere and the prices are more than reasonable. I did have lunch on the other side of the island at Nok Noi on a pier, though, and the Bar-b-q seafood was terrific; squid, prawns and scallops on the 1/2 shell for $14. Wow.

The pool at Amber Sands is small but very inviting, the whole vibe is laid back and relaxing, there are cabanas and hammocks and beach chairs, and.....well, you just have to go there and experience the atmosphere. This was the end of a month long trip in Asia for me and it was just the right ending to it. The calm and peace and beauty were just what I needed at the end of this journey. I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience this oasis and I know that you will enjoy it too.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room

Thank you so much Incognito-one for your kind comments.

We're very pleased that you had the time to explore and compare both sides of the island because we are just so enthusiastic about the lovely east coast of Koh Chang. You're right, probably 98% of our guests come back after a day out and say "thank goodness we're staying on the quieter side of the island". Usually they add that they're glad to be "home", which is how we like our guests to feel at Amber Sands.

There is one restaurant and a few eateries around us, but there are many good restaurants on the island that we're always happy to recommend to our guests. It's good to try some others to see how our restaurant compares.

It certainly sounds like you've recharged your batteries after your travels, which is our main goal. Happy travels next time.

We spent ten superb days at Amber Sands three weeks ago.A gem of a place !

Located on the beautiful, unspoilt eastern side of the island ( the western touristic "villages" on the western side are an eyesore ),Julian and Cheryl's little resort is wonderful, with high standards (wonderful hosts, a very professional staff with Debbie and the girls, and the gardener).
The guests are provided with very tasty food ( we loved everything and we had all our dinners there !) ,beautiful bungalows set in a lush tropical gardens with numerous fabulous butterflies. The nocturnal concerts of the buffalo frogs were impressive!

Everything is well thought out for the guests' well being, thanks to Cheryl :plenty of umbrellas in case of rain, armchairs, a low table for the kids to draw and paint, deckchairs with umbrellas around the pool, plenty of bath towels, hammocks, resting places facing the sea ( which ,by the way, is safe to swim in, which is not the case on the other side of Koh Chang with the big waves and the dangerous currents !), two kayaks at the guests' disposal.
Julian booked us an excellent motorbike for eight days and it enabled us to discover many places. If you go to Salak Kok Village, don't miss the boat ride in the mangrove.Magic and less tiring than paddling a kayak by yourself, with the seats and the sunshade!
Julian's welcome is hearty, genuine. We booked at the last minute and were lucky for there were vacancies.Thank you to you for letting us check out two days after your official closing time for your annual vacation.
A stay at Amber Sands is an unforgettable experience!

Goodness Pastelchris, I'm at a loss for words on how to respond to your very kind review! Thank you so much.

We appreciate that you noticed some of the smaller details we have introduced for the comfort and convenience of our guests. We work hard on the upkeep and maintenance of our property, unlike many of our competitors, factors which can't be seen by those who look at price alone.

You are right that at that time of the year the sea on the west coast can become quite rough, but luckily the sea off our beach is more sheltered and calm.

As for those frogs.......! (ha ha)

It was our pleasure to have you stay a little after our official closing; it was no trouble at all.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We stayed for 8 nights at the end of July/start of August. Having read the reviews on here we knew what to expect, and we were not disappointed. I do not really have anything new to add but I think it is important to put up a recent review so that others can see whether the standards are remaining high. Having spoken to Julian and Cheryl about different parts of the business it is clear that their reputation is very important to them and it shows. The highlight for us was the food. This was towards the end of our month in Thailand and we had eaten in a range of restaurants from night market food to 5 star hotels and we all agreed that it was the best we had. I think between the three of us we sampled most dishes on the menu (Thai and Western) and all were excellent, and we like our food!! We also loved seeing the many different butterflies which are abundant.
We didn't explore the busy side of the Island at all, as this was our 'chill' part of the holiday so apart from hiring mopeds for a couple of days we were content to stay and just relax. I can't comment on the location of Amber Sands if you want to be out and about more.

Thank you Geraldine for taking the time to send in a review. Many guests don't do so because they feel that it has all been said before, but as you rightly say, a current review does report on present conditions at a resort, which is what TripAdvisor encourage.

And you're right, we value our reputation highly so that drives our product and how we manage the business. We believe that we're not just selling a bed, we're selling "an experience", so we try hard to maintain and improve our standards where we can.

We appreciate your comments about our restaurant food especially considering that you had traveled around Thailand quite a bit and that you enjoy your food. Thank you very much,

We're probably biased, but you didn't miss too much by not going to the other side of the island. ;)

We met up as a family in Thailand after our daughters had been travelling through Europe for 8 months. We cannot recommend Amber Sands highly enough. A small and relatively secluded resort, we found we didn't stray too far each day; maybe hiring a motorbike to drive around the island, or taking up Julian's suggestion of a day riding and swimming with the elephants at a nearby reserve was as far as we ventured. Everything we wanted was at Amber Sands: a scenic, private location, excellent restaurant, warm, welcoming and professional staff...nothing was too much trouble. Their excellent internet connection in the rooms was a bonus which we have found lacking in other hotels. We absolutely loved our stay at Amber Sands and encourage anyone considering a holiday on Koh Chang to book their accommodation here post-haste!

Gosh Maryanne we should hire you to write our advertising copy! We do appreciate your review, thank you.

It's always interesting to see how different guests experience Amber Sands, or what appeals to them. You have covered all the bases, even picking up on some aspects not mentioned by other guests, like the internet, or the professional staff.

Our resort does work well for family reunions which we've had a number of over the years. Also for what they call 3G travelers (3 generations travelling together).

Good advice to book early too because as our guests tell their family and friends, we find the lead times on bookings is definitely increasing, and we so dislike having to turn down reservation requests.

Thank you again, and warm wishes to your family.
