Really lovely place, it's right on the beach, but it does not have a sandy beach...it has grass, which i thought is even better!! from the outside the bungalows have beautiful colors, and from the inside they have a very captivating design: modern with an artsy twist. The swimming pool is very clean, and the manager will drive you wherever you need. You can dine or have a drink at the bar/restaurant. The atmosphere is super laid back, this could really be the closest you can get to heaven...

Chill-out central. Come here for hammocks, delicious food, fun people, and giant buckets of booze. Remove any preconceived ideas of white sandy beaches; they don't have them. But the rocky beach Gu's overlooks and the laidback atmosphere of this place can't be replicated.

A typical day: wake up whenever, time means nothing here, and drop into the restaurant for some pad thai and iced coffee. Look out at the ocean and read in a hammock as the day heats up. Head out to the waterfalls or another short trip, come back to Gu's for dinner and start drinking until a group forms and they invite you to take the Gu's party bus over to the bars. Go with them. Know you're being taken care of by Sam and crew, and let loose.

One small setback: On a tropical island like Koh Chang, you can't get away from seeing a cockroach at night. We later stayed at a 4-star place and still saw one. But since our bungalow at Gu's had an open-air bathroom, we had a lot of ants crawling on the toilet at night. A quick hose down fixed it every time, but a little warning from a fellow TripAdvisor would have been nice!

Room tip: Private bungalows worth the money.

Gu's is lots of fun! If you are 20s-30s and want to relax/explore during the day and then have fun at night just hanging out at the bar and getting to know people, it's a great place to stay. Get the bungalows for a little more per night.

I stayed in Gu's Bay with 2 friends and was really pleased about this place! Nice rooms, beautiful view (if you take the sea view bungalows, 400-450baht), friendly staff, great garden with swimming pool right next to the sea and I loved the thematic reception/restaurant! Of course it stays a hostel but an excellent choice if you're looking for some nice place to stay, outside the loud touristic places on the island... Nice restaurants on the main street and Lonely Beach or Bang Bao Beach is just a few km's away...

I'm back in Gu's, and back at home. The place is still perfect and very quiet in the low-season. Even on rainy days the hammocks are cool and the rain is refreshing and welcome. The staff are as friendly as ever and will go well out of their way to make sure your every need is taken care of. I wanted to add another review because I want more people to experience this place and enjoy the unique island atmosphere. Another reason for this review is because I have just read another review on Gu's Bay. I am impartial and I was present when the reviewer was here in Gu's Bay and it is very un-fair. It says on the wall that you should order food at the bar and the guy complained a lot, about the service, the room and the staff. This is NOT a luxury hotel and no-body here is under any illusions about this. The rooms are basic and functional, there are nicer rooms that are a bit more expensive, but you pay 350-550 baht for a basic room. It is cheap. The guy stayed for 2 nights and went and found somewhere else. Anyway, I as I have said, come here and experience this place, I believe it is awesome and 99% of the people I have met here share the same opinion.
