We booked the elephant ride and swim in the canal with them. Was very fun but the route is abit gross they took us pass the place where people dump the litter. Feel sorry for the elephant but he had fun swimming with us in the end of he trip.
I chose to bring my foreign guests to this elephant riding experience because of the positive reviews. I was surprised, however, at the quite unprofessional setup, although it is very Thai and down to earth. Evidently the price ranges depending on whether you come on your own or through a third party. We were quoted 800 per person over the phone (without the elephant bath) but when we arrived in our own car, we were charged only 600 because there was no commission involved. It was a 40-45 minute elephant ride through the jungle. My guests absolutely loved it and the elephant handlers were very kind to take pictures for them. Also you should make a reservation in advance.
We didn’t book a tour or anything and wouldn’t have anyway, we came across this “sanctuary” on the way to our hotel.
These poor animals are abused and terribly distressed, all chained and can barely move around. The local hotels who hire this establishment for their shows should be ashamed of themselves. We were at a Christmas eve show and they had one of these poor elephants do various tricks all the while having a spike pushed into them on occasions when it didn’t want to preform. I am not an activist or anything but even my two young children who had witnessed their housing refused to watch the show.
They look so sad and I can see why when you see their conditions and the horrible men who “handle them”
I will be trying to do something about this.
If you thought about elephant trekking dont do it! These animals are chained from their feet and beat cruelly these people so that the elephants obey them. They look starving and very weak. You can see the despair and anxiety in their eyes. Also elephants backs are not meant for trekking at all since they have naturally weak backs. We visited this place to see the elephants and we were apalled by the look of the animals, the handler has a billhook or something as a possible method of punishment if the animal misbehaves.
Elephants should roam freely in the nature and not be chained by some people who make money off of them. Sickening place.
0/5 dont support elephant tourism.
well- correct to say the elephants would be more happy fully free out in jungle... but we had a great experience and for children a learning experience.
beautiful scene, amazing river and experience to be with an elephant enjoying a swim.
the staff treated animal really well and at Ban Camp Chang that we found- an experience to recomand.
I am little hesitant about these elephant camps but wanted to give our 5 year old son a experience because he loves them. The camp was at the jungle and the elephants seemed to not suffer. We did the ride and then went to bathe them in the river. Our mahout was a nice guy, was gentle with Sinuan. Overall it was a nice day.
