“Lovely lovely lovely”

On the positive side - clean facilities, lovely interiors, beautiful beach, very friendly staff. Especially appreciated the 50m swimming pool, the very beautiful gardens and the breakfast buffet (lots of choice and good quality, too). Stayed there at new year's eve and dinner buffet was outstanding. Perfect holiday.
They bring chocolate and orchid flovers to the room every day. Isn't that nice? :)
Some people commented about the internet connection being too pricey. Just wanted to point out that at the reception area there is free wifi.

Just returned from the Amari in Koh Chang, travelling with wife and 3 kids. This place is as good as it gets. Top quality design and superb attention to detail. Breakfast buffet very comprehensive and something for everyone. The three pools were perfect for kids of all ages, and the main pool was olympic sized, and probably the nicest pool i have seen... not too much clorine, and the never too crowded for proper laps. Parents got to chill under the palm trees and listen to the sea.

Happy hour prices (two for one on all drinks) is the best buy on the island. Pool bar has happy hour 12 - 13 and 17 - 18.00. Very popular. Also the breezes bar from 21.00 to 23.00. wine by the glass was a favorite as well as the mojhitos.

Most visitors opt to eat out for the evenings... much better value. The Owen Bar was recommended by the expat kayaking crew and a real value for high quality food. Also the Pilot bar... go to the beach and turn right, funky cabana set up, but good food and special atmosphere.

What we liked about koh chang and the amari was the scope of activities and easy access to all, but the high standards of the hotel and friendly staff.

Also, the daily activies for the kids (t shirt painting, clay models and tote bags) kept them busy and they made alot of friends.

We took a suite in lieu of two connecting rooms. Recommended.

Stayed here for 6 nights in the peak New Year season. The rooms are spacious and well decorated with great bathrooms. Only let down was the tiny old style TV. (not much point having a DVD player in the room if you need binoculars to see the tellie).
We booked a room with a sea view but on arriving we found our view totally blocked by a large structure in place for the New Year's Eve party. Despite the hotel being nearly full a new room with a lovely view was quickly found for us.
The 50 m pool was a godsend and you are able to use it from the early morning till well after dark. In addition there are 2 kids pools.
The beach, or lack of it at high tide, was disappointing but only a few minutes walk to the north of the resort we found lovely sections of sandy beach.
The food in the restaurants is expensive but yummy (in fitting with the 5 Star price tag).
Easy to eat outside of the hotel though. Just along the access road was a great little Thai place. Laundry services are just outside of the hotel and very cheap.
Overall this would be a great place for families/honeymooners or anyone wanting to have a peaceful and worry free tropical holiday.

Paying what we did for this place, it felt more like a dorm than a luxury hotel. The pool was not functioning, there were no activities organised, the receptionists were rude!
The hotel room was clean but we would have expected a better view in such a serene island!

I booked this Hotel whilst on Koh Chang through Bookings.com. I think i paid about US$160 a night. For this you get a room with a view of a back canal and some mountains in the distance, not the view of the beautiful coastline. For this price you expect a lot, but you don't get too much. To be picky, and I feel that is fair at this price: The door chain had been broken in half. The shower walls had black mold in places across the granite. The bed was two single beds pushed together to form a King size! NO free wi-fi in the rooms (you have free access in one spot near reception). I think you had to pay about 500 baht per 24 hours access to your room. There was NO breakfast included in my room rate. this was a further 800 baht per person per day!! The resort itself is a taxi ride away from decent eating and drinking places.
However...on the good side...The room was huge..plenty of space.. great bathroom, nice verandah with chairs. The view across the water is fabulous. there are plenty of chairs to recline on, nice water, hammocks. The pools is huge and inviting. If you want to experience Koh Change in a sanitised bubble this is the place to be. Nice place, but too much $$ for what you get.

it is a absolute sadness to see an hotel ruining the amari name like that
i stay in amari bangkok and it was so much better
beside the italian restaurant ( it was delighting) they made italian buffet night. they had 5 things to choose from and it look like a university cafeteria. the manager should be fire. he will bring the hotel chain from a five star to a 2 stars.
the room was nice

Thank you for your review. After investigation, it appears that on that evening, due to a sudden short shower, this outdoor buffet had to be interrupted and the items moved indoor. This was indeed a small buffet, but with definitely much more than five items to choose from, including
a live pasta station. Guests who saw the buffet just after the rain stopped must have had the impression that it was limited for that reason.

This was a lovely hotel on a very sweet and interesting island. The hotel has many rooms, and is well designed.
We were collected from Trat Airport by the hotel mini-bus, and friendly driver. He furnished us with cold water, and cold towels for the ferry and journey to the hotel.
Upon arrival we were given a refreshing (but not to our tastes) drink, and cool towels, then shown to our room.
This hotel is right on the shore, with its own little beach directly onto the water. There is a very large pool, and giant Jacuzzi. There are many sun-beds available by the pool or on the beach. When relaxing on by the pool/beach you are often offered free fruit on sticks - a lovely touch.
The breakfast buffet was delightful, and extensive. There were many different worldwide dishes available to suit any taste, with freshly made food available also.
The hotel did offer a spa, although it doesn't seem to ever serve anyone - probably due to the rather extortionate prices, when the same service is available for a fraction of the price everywhere! The spa's lack of custom was evidenced by them giving free 5 minute massages to the relaxing guests to tempt them in.
The room itself was quite spacious with the free upgrade, and the room is well equipped with everything you'd want. There is complimentary fresh water delivered every day to the room, as well as complimentary fruit. The television was surprisingly old so doesn't seem to match the room.
There was wireless internet available, but it was a surprise that it was not complimentary.
Because this was a honeymoon break, the hotel added some lovely touches. When we arrived in the room, we had a full, chocolate cake decorated with a 'Happy Honeymoon' sign. The bath was also filled with water and petals. A lovely and thoughtful touch.
The staff were very friendly and would help with any request.
All things considered, a lovely stay with lovely staff.
