Stayed two years ago and went back as I liked it so much. This time, too many Russians dictating the servcie offered. By that I mean that the hotel was geared towards them, ie poor english spoken by some staff, dive staff Russian. Gnerally not well mannered, buffet for them only each night in one restuarant and you had to sit away from them. The management seemed only interested in their needs. Food for breakfast was a let down from last time, it was tepid and chewy. Been out too long. Other restuarnts, service, people and food excellent, bar staff could do with someone being in control. Hanging around at happy hour when they should be out looking for orders. Manager , look at your staffs footware, some looked like they had played football in them. A disappointed revisit and expectaions were high, sadly reality worse.

Thank you very much for your feedback further to your return visit, especially on the bar and the breakfast, which we have duly noted. We would however like to clarify that we are not only geared towards the Russian clientele. It is indeed a period of the year where Russian people are travelling to Thailand. We strive to provide the same attention as guests of other nationalities. Some of our team members may not be fluent in English, but they are certainly not more proficient in Russian. We are also proud to count in our management team people fluent in English, Thai, German, French, Russian and with a good basic level of Italian and Japanese. The dive staff at the hotel is actually not Russian. Russian groups staying with us have their buffet in one indoor part of our all day dining restaurant. Our prime space and terrace, as well as both our Thai and Italian restaurants, are entirely left for all other guests. During this season, a rotation of buffets and dinners on the beach catered for our individual guests is regularly arranged.

A group of us stayed here for two nights during the high season in January. The rooms were impeccable! Absolutely beautiful with very comfortable beds. The pool area was also great. Staff was very friendly and helpful... welcomed us with minty-fresh face towels and a delicious, refreshing drink. It was a nice touch after a long journey. I'm not giving Amari 5 stars for two reasons: 1) no free wi-fi internet in the rooms and 2) not a very good beach in the resort. It's really unfortunate that it's almost standard for very nice hotels to not offer free internet unlike more budget hotels that offer free wi-fi in the room. At Amari, they offered free wi-fi in the bar area but it wasn't very convenient. The "beach" at Amari was not so great either.. lots of corals and the sand doesn't really go into the water. A little tough to picture, but yeah I would go elsewhere if you're intending to spend a lot of time in the beach. As we were only there for 2 nights, it wasn't a big issue. Overall though I would recommend staying at Amari.

On the positive side - clean facilities, lovely interiors, beautiful beach, very friendly staff. Especially appreciated the 50m swimming pool, the very beautiful gardens and the breakfast buffet (lots of choice and good quality, too). Stayed there at new year's eve and dinner buffet was outstanding. Perfect holiday.
They bring chocolate and orchid flovers to the room every day. Isn't that nice? :)
Some people commented about the internet connection being too pricey. Just wanted to point out that at the reception area there is free wifi.

Just returned from the Amari in Koh Chang, travelling with wife and 3 kids. This place is as good as it gets. Top quality design and superb attention to detail. Breakfast buffet very comprehensive and something for everyone. The three pools were perfect for kids of all ages, and the main pool was olympic sized, and probably the nicest pool i have seen... not too much clorine, and the never too crowded for proper laps. Parents got to chill under the palm trees and listen to the sea.

Happy hour prices (two for one on all drinks) is the best buy on the island. Pool bar has happy hour 12 - 13 and 17 - 18.00. Very popular. Also the breezes bar from 21.00 to 23.00. wine by the glass was a favorite as well as the mojhitos.

Most visitors opt to eat out for the evenings... much better value. The Owen Bar was recommended by the expat kayaking crew and a real value for high quality food. Also the Pilot bar... go to the beach and turn right, funky cabana set up, but good food and special atmosphere.

What we liked about koh chang and the amari was the scope of activities and easy access to all, but the high standards of the hotel and friendly staff.

Also, the daily activies for the kids (t shirt painting, clay models and tote bags) kept them busy and they made alot of friends.

We took a suite in lieu of two connecting rooms. Recommended.

Stayed here for 6 nights in the peak New Year season. The rooms are spacious and well decorated with great bathrooms. Only let down was the tiny old style TV. (not much point having a DVD player in the room if you need binoculars to see the tellie).
We booked a room with a sea view but on arriving we found our view totally blocked by a large structure in place for the New Year's Eve party. Despite the hotel being nearly full a new room with a lovely view was quickly found for us.
The 50 m pool was a godsend and you are able to use it from the early morning till well after dark. In addition there are 2 kids pools.
The beach, or lack of it at high tide, was disappointing but only a few minutes walk to the north of the resort we found lovely sections of sandy beach.
The food in the restaurants is expensive but yummy (in fitting with the 5 Star price tag).
Easy to eat outside of the hotel though. Just along the access road was a great little Thai place. Laundry services are just outside of the hotel and very cheap.
Overall this would be a great place for families/honeymooners or anyone wanting to have a peaceful and worry free tropical holiday.

Paying what we did for this place, it felt more like a dorm than a luxury hotel. The pool was not functioning, there were no activities organised, the receptionists were rude!
The hotel room was clean but we would have expected a better view in such a serene island!

I booked this Hotel whilst on Koh Chang through Bookings.com. I think i paid about US$160 a night. For this you get a room with a view of a back canal and some mountains in the distance, not the view of the beautiful coastline. For this price you expect a lot, but you don't get too much. To be picky, and I feel that is fair at this price: The door chain had been broken in half. The shower walls had black mold in places across the granite. The bed was two single beds pushed together to form a King size! NO free wi-fi in the rooms (you have free access in one spot near reception). I think you had to pay about 500 baht per 24 hours access to your room. There was NO breakfast included in my room rate. this was a further 800 baht per person per day!! The resort itself is a taxi ride away from decent eating and drinking places.
However...on the good side...The room was huge..plenty of space.. great bathroom, nice verandah with chairs. The view across the water is fabulous. there are plenty of chairs to recline on, nice water, hammocks. The pools is huge and inviting. If you want to experience Koh Change in a sanitised bubble this is the place to be. Nice place, but too much $$ for what you get.
