We booked this hotel after extensive reading of reviews, the fact we like small hotels and because it was quiet. Our stay started on 13 Oct for 11 nights which was just before the high season started. We traveled from Bangkok by Bangkok Airlines, you can use the lounge for free, located just near the departure gate. The flight was only 40 minutes to Trat and we got a drink and food. Trat airport is a pleasure. There were only about 26 people on our flight and we were collected from the plane by what can only be described as small electric trams on wheels. Our bags were off loaded within 10 minutes of landing and our hotel driver was there waiting for us in a toyota mimi van with cold water and towels. It was all hassle free. It was about a 15 minute drive to the ferry point and a 45 minute crossing onto Koh Chang, then a further 20-30 minutes to the hotel from there. The road was generally good but check out the incline on those s bends! The track from the main road to the hotel was very bumpy and quite long but we later discovered the hotel take you to and from the main road free of charge so if you want to go out at night and explore, you can. When we arrived we were told there was construction going on and were given complimentary vouchers for drinks and the spa as a sweetner. They are constructing another pool that looks like it will be for the exclusive use of the rooms that surround it. When we left we estimate another few weeks work to finish the job. Our room was great, massive four poster bed with mosquito net, clean sheets and pool towels each day, sofa, chairs, DVD/CD/TV. Air con worked well. Great bathroom, big shower and gigantic bath, fresh supply of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, towels etc every day. The front verranda was a nice place to wind down with a cool drink which we purchased outside the hotel chilled down with free ice from room service. The pool was clean and large enough with plenty of sun beds. There is a waterfall feature to it as well. Loads of further sun beds are available along the front of the hotel just back from the beach which was a good place to view the amazing sun sets. There were a few traders but a polite 'no thanks' saw them walk away. Buy your stuff at the Bangkok night markets. The restaurant was clean, provided good service and good food. The inclusive breakfast was varied and plentiful. For cheaper food that was just as good turn left on the beach and walk 100 meter's to the K.P huts. It's a back packer / cheap end place with a great laid back feel and very cold beer right on the beach front. The spar was on the expensive side, check out the beach massage for a better deal and a good sunburn treatment. There was no entertainment while we were there. Only about six occupied rooms on weekdays (it was low season still) some may say that it's a bit boring but if it's quiet and peace you want then this is the time to go. The hotel put on a free bus twice a day to White Sand Beach. It's not as clean as the hotel one but at night it comes alive with fire dancer shows and has a very laid back atmosphere, we loved it. We hired a 5 seater flat bed truck for 2 days, about £45, 2.5 diesel auto. We went exploring the island calling in at every small place we could find. The East side of the island has no beach to speak of just rocks and mangrove, hamlets are scattered along the road. Check out the Koh Chang Resort and Spa. We stopped there for lunch and used the pool. It's a real retreat, beautiful bungalows rising up the slopes either side. The food was great and the restaurant boasts to be one of the top 50 in the world. You must do the Elephant ride. There are two advertised. The one toward the north end of the island was more authentic, being way off the road etc but the one near the hotel was also good and the Elephant had a great time throwing us off into the river! Staff use your own camera to capture this great event. O.K it's touristy but who cares it's just the best. We also did the 3 island half day speedboat snorkel trip from Bang Bao, the fish are amazing, take bread rolls from the hotel -- loads of them! We booked at the hotel but you can book at Bang Bao where you can also book diving and fishing. On the main road near the hotel are some great little eating places and a few shops. Laundry there is a fraction of the cost of the hotel service and comes clean and pressed, 80 TB per kilo. Overall we loved this hotel and recommend it for couples wanting a quiet romantic break without the need to get dressed up to impress. The beach is perfect, no seaweed, rocks, jellyfish and no 500 room hotels next door! Just beach. A laid back small clean hotel with great staff that we would use again if we returned to Koh Chang.
