Beautiful place , very peaceful

Stayed at the Aana for 5 nights . The buildings and grounds are stunning and very well maintained . Our room was spacious , well appointed and had a lovely view from the balcony . The staff were professional , friendly and helpful .
Pools are good , the restaurant ok for breakfast but found the evening buffet a bit disappointing , and loved the beach . It's great fun kayaking the few hundred metres to a lovely private beach , plenty of loungers , nice clean beach , bar and bbq and lovely to walk in both directions .
I would recommend having your own transport ,car or moped , as there's not much to walk to close by but loads to visit and explore on the island which is cheap and easy with your own transport .

I absolutely loved this hotel! I have stayed in many different types of accommodation across Thailand ranging from budget backpacker places to five star luxury hotels but this is my absolute favourite. The location on the riverside is very beautiful and romantic and I loved kayaking down the river every day to the incredibly beautiful beach. I had a couple of massages on the beach and both were very good as were the delicious mango smoothies. There were also complimentary snacks and drinks every day when arriving back from the beach. The free firefly tour was fun. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was nice, not outstanding but still very good. This is not a fancy, swish luxury resort but it has an atmosphere that made it better than any other place I've stayed. Yes, the sheets had a small tear in them and there was a bit of mildew in the bathroom but after being in this place for half an hour I really didn't care about these things as it is just so beautiful. My parents stayed in a villa which was beautiful and my husband and I stayed in one of the cheapest rooms but it was still very nice. The towels were shaped into different animals every day which was a nice touch and there was a nice fruit bowl on arrival. The hilltop pool was beautiful and had a real feeling of peace and calm. If you're very fussy and like everything to be "perfect" then maybe this isn't the place for you as it is a little rough around the edges. I, however, wouldn't want it to change at all, I loved it and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Room tip: If you can afford a villa then it's worth the extra but the cheaper rooms are still beautiful and spacious and incredibly good value.

We stayed in a Villa for B3200, and my parents stayed in a Hilltop Villa for B4000. Rates include a decent buffet breakfast. Both had personal jacuzzis and the Hilltop Villa was more spacious.

Pros: Very romantic atmosphere in the rooms and restaurant; comfortable beds; no traffic noise; free use of kayaks (it is a 5 minute paddle to the beach); jungle sounds at night; DVD player and safety box in the rooms; attentive staff (an improvement on earlier reviews it seems); lovely stretch of private beach on Klong Prao; complimentary drinks and snacks; free shuttle to White Sands beach.

Cons: Expensive wifi (should be free at these room prices); sometimes saw the remains of room service meals left around the resort; some wooden decking which is rotting (do not go around barefoot); old CRT TVs in the rooms; mini-gym had no free weights; no direct beach access (although the resort has 2 boats to ferry passengers there for free from 8am to 6pm).

Overall: A unique resort which is a refreshing change from larger, more impersonal places at similar prices. If you want maximum peace and quiet, try to avoid weekends when noisy Thai families swarm into the place.

I love this place! It's comfortable and classy and well situated, along a river flowing to their private beach. Kayaks are free and available to use, and if you're too lazy for that they happily ferry you to the beach by longboat. The private beach has all the amenities you might want--bar, food, massage station, comfortable lounge chairs, fresh towels, etc--but there are no vendors bothering you. You can walk a bit further down the beach and find them if you like. Another plus is along the side road the hotel is on are a handful of great inexpensive waterfront sea food restaurants and a nice massage/spa facility. They happily arrange any trips you want around the island and even provide a free shuttle twice a day to the more populous White Sands Beach areas. But, me, I barely left this corner of paradise I landed on for five days. I hope to come back again.

My girlfriend and I spent 11 nights at Aana resort in March 2012. We upgraded to a Grand Deluxe room which was an excellent decision - spacious and cool, with a nice view across one of the swimming pools. The location was right in the middle of the Island which we found very convenient - we opted to rent a motorbike for the week, and would encourage you to do the same. Swimming pools are really nice here, especially the infinity pool up at the top of the resort. We also had a massage treatment at a spa here, and although the prices are slightly higher than some others on the Island, it really was very good service. Rooms were cleaned daily, and the mini bar was kept stocked with very reasonable prices.

A few recommendations for improvements - the service at the restaurant was slow, and the food very overpriced. Some of the staff need to speak better English to serve the guests and we found some reception staff quite rude at times. The internet was extortionate - but in fairness we knew this was the case before we arrived.

Overall we had a very very pleasant stay here, and I would recommend it to others. The private beach was incredible (but watch out for jelly fish in the stormy weather)!

Room tip: Upgrade to a Grand Deluxe, or if you can afford it, a Villa with a private plunge pool.

We have just completed a 15 night stay at this hotel. We are no strangers to this hotel having visited for the last 2 years.

The hotel has a new general manager who is extremely keen to improve customer service and the improvements he has made are a real credit to him.

The breakfast selection is much improved, the pools are throughly cleaned every morning, there are now a continuous supply of pool towel (unlike in previous years), the quality of the linen in the rooms has improved and the staff make a real effort to make you feel at home.

The restaurant has a new head chef who used to be the chef to one of the Thai Ambassadors and from speaking to her has clearly travelled far and wide. It is clear that she is now 'in charge' when it comes to the overall management of food and beverage and the quality and presentation of food has vastly improved (well done...!). We ate the sea food BBQ selection one evening and it was superb.

We have stayed in several hotels on this island such as the Amari, Mercure Hideaway...etc, but the Aana is by far the best value for money and the rooms are spotlessly clean.

Great improvements.......keep it up and we will see you next year.
