“Paradise in nature luxus!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2009

It was our 3 th. trip to Thailand and Aana was our 5 th. pace to stay on this trip and it got our home! It is built in the wild nature and it is very peacefull but only 10 minutes by car to the city (White Sand). The 3-4 minutes kajak trip by the river to the most lovely and private beach is fantastic (they are going to built Aana beach hotel on the private beach soon). Both the pools are great. We loved the villa, which are very bright and tastefull. We loved our private terasse too. It has a georgeus view, nice litle pool and sunbed etc. The staf was very helpfull and competent. The resturant with the nice setting by the river was good. Thanks for all to Aana! M. Winther, Denmark

After a poor experience at the resort we had book initially (see my other review), we decided to go hotel-shopping (for our third resort at Koh Chang) to make the most of what was left of our honeymoon. We finally ended up at Aana Resort , and loved it so much we extended our stay and could have easily stayed for another week!

ROOM: We booked the 2nd floor Top View Villa closest to the river, and it was just wonderful. We had the view of the Klong Praow river, and could even see the beach from our bed head. Contrary to what others may have said, I did like how they had refillable jars of shampoo, body lotion and body soap (didn’t quite like the smell of the body lotion though, but that’s just me). The décor and furniture were very nice; made of sustainable sources and had a very earthy feel to it. The whole villa really made us feel that we were on a relaxing holiday. My partner enjoyed taking dips in the Jacuzzi, but you have been warned – the water is freezing!

RIVER: We didn’t have a problem whatsoever with the beach being a “kayak/boat” ride away; the river made the resort seemed more peaceful and serene. Also, it made for more activities with the free firefly tours and kayaks and gondola dinners. We only decided to have dinner on the gondola as we were on our honeymoon thus wanted to do “honeymoon” things – you can easily get better and cheaper food out in town, but ambience-wise, this definitely beats sitting by the roadside under fluorescent lights.

BEACH: We thoroughly enjoyed kayaking to the beach as and when we wanted. The beach was nice, but my partner found it too shallow for his liking. We had to hike out quite a fair distance before the water reached up to our chests. Service was good on the beach, with much cheaper massages than at the resort itself. I particularly liked the setup, with hammocks, swings, sunlounges and umbrellas on the beach. However, as the beach is situated at the mouth of the river, one can expect some debris such as twigs near the beach.

SERVICE: Most of the staff were very friendly and efficient. Any concerns about the room were met almost immediately. When we first arrived, they took the time to add decoration to the room, knowing we were on our honeymoon. I only felt they could improve their service at the restaurant – it was at times hard flagging their attention for a cup of tea or coffee.

AMENITIES and OTHER: Although we were closer to the riverside pool, we spent most of our time at the hilltop pool as it was just gorgeous. With views of the beach, river and hills, it was just so relaxing. The bottom of the pool is quite a hazard though – you would certainly not want to scrape yourself against it (as I had, unfortunately).
It is a really quiet resort – not a place you’d go for drinks and such. I wouldn’t go there just for dinner either. The spa ambience looked wonderful – mats for thai massage were set up just by the river, the private spa rooms had river views, but it was just too expensive, compared to what you’d get out in town (perhaps double the price). Hotel landscaping is fantastic - you can tell staff take pride in their work.

Overall, I’d love to go there again with my husband, but possibly not with a whole bunch of mates. It was the best choice we could’ve made for our honeymoon.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights from the end of December to early January. We'd booked this resort having read the reviews on trip advisor and because we were looking for somewhere away from the big resorts and popular beaches. The Aana Resort is very pretty and in a very peaceful location. The beach was always quiet and we spent a couple of days just exploring the area by Kayak (which are available for free from the hotel) which I would highly recommend.

When we first arrived we weren't happy with our room, we had to ask 3 times if we could move to another room until they agreed to move us the following day. We were very pleased with the room that we we're moved too.

In comparison to everywhere else we stayed during our 3 week trip to Thailand we found the people at Aana Resort really unfriendly. Whenever we asked for information or directions we were made to feel like a burden rather than a paying guest. Breakfast was a particularly unfriendly part of the day, it was a mission to find anyone to order a hot drink from. Having spoken to other guests we were definately not the only ones left with this impression.

We were also disapointed that the only bar in the resort (the pool bar) closed at 8 pm. We're not particularly party people and we were expecting a quiet resort but we were suprised that there was no where to buy a drink (apart from in the restaurant) after 8 pm. This was probably my fault for just assuming and not checking for this information beforehand. There were plenty of places to eat and drink a short taxi drive away though. We found a wonderful little street restaurant in the next town along the road where the food was fabulous and the people very friendly.

If I went back to Koh Chang I would probably choose to stay at a resort in the Lonely Beach area of the island. Although Aana Resort was nice I wouldn't rush back.

  • Liked — Quiet beach, one of the least devleoped areas of the island
