“Excellent hotel.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2013

My girlfriend and I just returned from a trip to Thailand and we stayed our last 6 nights in this hotel. We thought the hotel was fantastic the hotel went out there way to help in anyway possible and were really friendly. The rooms were very clean and spacious, breakfast buffet had all you could ask for so was perfect. All in all the stay was excellent and I would return again.

I have stayed here 4 or 5 times before with my immediate family ,wife and son and also my mum in law and other members of my wife's family.
We normally book at least 2 beach bungalows and stay 3 nights.
The total cost of our stay normally is between £600-£750,this is out of season and includes our accommodation and food and drink orders.
We recently stayed for 4 nights during the high season between 29th dec till 2nd jan 2013, total cost over £1200.
As soon as we arrived we was asked if we would like to buy tickets for their news eve party, 2000 Thb per person, we declined as we prefer to do our own thing.
During our stay we prefer to go to the swimming pool as the sun goes down in the evening and order some food and drink and enjoy around the pool, we found the service to be very poor, either things we ordered not available or staff appeared to be disinterested and even rude.
With the arrival of news years eve, their party organisation began.A huge stage was erected on the beach in front of the restaurant. At 2pm the complete pool area was closed off & we were no longer allowed to use the pool. The party itself went on from 1830hrs till past midnight and was not a problem to us, however as we had declined the tickets we where almost abandoned by the staff, in fact the staff seemed more interested in enjoying themselves, dressed up in their cowboy gear and drinking the free booze.
We will not staying here again which is a shame because the actual place is lovely and the rooms are nice, however the staff are very poorly trained, resulting in poor service, in my opinion the management are to blame, the New years eve party was the final straw, the management should realise the disruption caused to their guests by this event and also remember that they still need to cater for ALL their paying guests.
I should also mention that we found the staff that where employed to service the rooms, cleaners and maintenance etc to be excellent and very helpful hence they received a generous tip when we left.

Surat S, General Manager at Koh Chang Paradise Resort & Spa, responded to this review, 9 May 2013
First able we would like to thanks the guest in commented on our resort. We would like to come across our point of view as follow:

1) About the differences between the prices – The guest said that he stayed with us and get two beach bungalows at around 600 - 750 pounds which includes food and drink orders and it is out off season. This could mean that he and his family came to visited us during our low-season. But he came to visited us during our peak-season Dec 2012 to Jan 2013. Of course, the prices will be different due to our low season is no compare to peak-season prices which the resort will be fully booked and full of people. This is why we set the prices for low-season, high-season and peak-season. We hope you will be understood in this point of view.

2) About the New Year's Eve Party 2012 - Compulsory Dinner. In this point it is our resort error in failed to fix charged the Compulsory Dinner for New Year's Eve in online system until the guest made a booking. Normally all the guests who booked our accommodation during New Year's Eve they have to pay additional for New Year's Eve Gala Dinner. But it is our mistake that we didn’t add the dinner surcharge in the system until he booked the rooms. Last year we charge @ 2,500 Baht per person. But in this case due to our error we have offered him only @ 2,000.- Baht per person and he have declined, which is accepted by our resort and we do respected in his decision.

3) About the function of New Year's Eve Party for 2012 we decided to set in the Cowboy Theme as we thought it will bring a good atmosphere in the Party to countdown for 2013. To prepare for the Party we need a lot of time in preparation for setting up the party and and of course foods and drinks. This is the reason why we have to close the swimming pool and the restaurant @ 14:00 pm on that day. Which we have put the notice up and also sent to all guest's rooms. So that all of our guests will have time prepare themselves for the night. Of course on his arrival our staffs at reception already told him about this and advice to him that if he did not join us for New year's Eve Party he might found it difficult in getting foods and drinks in another places. In the Party, of course, Cowboy night is the theme which mean that all of our staffs have to dress in Cowboy uniform and we would like to say that all of our staffs did not drink the free booze as his excused us due to the staffs are not allowed to drink. Only the management position and the owner are allowed to drink at the Party. If the staffs drinking or taking food from the Party they would be had a serious punishment as in job description. So we are pretty confident in this matter that our staffs did not drink free booze as he has excused us. However, we did not know where he get this information from as he and his family did not join the Party and will not be able to get into the Party without tickets. In fact, we would not ignore our guests that did not join the party. We are ready to serve all guests at all time. But in this case we already sent the letter into his room and other guest rooms for information that the restaurant and the swimming pool will be closed for the function. If he and his family need help or assistant he can contact the reception at all time. But we had not received any complaint from him at our front desk. We never have this kind of problem in the past years in setting New Year's Eve Gala dinner and this setting is the same as the other hotels and resorts. Every year, most of our guests already knew that whether they join the party or not they still have to pay for additional New Year's Eve Gala Dinner because it is compulsory. Nevertheless, thank you for his comments and we will take this matter seriously and will continue to train our staffs for the better service.

It has been the fourth year that we have stayed In Paradise Resort and this year we have noticed bigger changes than the past years.

We had a Deluxe Bungalow which has been renovated. The decoration is more modern with nice fresh flowers. The bed is still very big. Some people may find it a bit hard but we prefer it like that.
The biggest change was in the air conditioning which is now better, more efficient and more quiet than the past years. In addition there is a fan on top of the bed if you prefer. But remember to turn on the AC to get hot water!
The bathroom looks much better now and it's still big, with a shower and a bathtub.
The room was cleaned everyday and the bed sheets changed when we wanted (remember to place the "change the sheet" card on the bed).

The staff is still very helpful and speaking well English.

There is still a big choice for the breakfast, with Thai and Continental food.

The restaurant is serving good grilled or "à la carte" food and if you have a special request you can ask for it, they will do their best to please you. We wanted to taste Thai lobsters which are not in the menu. We just asked 2 days before if it would be possible to have some and we got them. The Chef is excellent! We have read that she has won few Thai cuisine competitions.
You have to remember that Paradise guests have 10% of discount at the restaurant which makes it cheaper than the others around.

There is a good policy in this Resort concerning the pool and beach chairs booking. Before 9Am it's forbidden to book any chair and this is great! We have been in some other hotels where people are waking up very early to book the best places. It becomes a race and your holidays turn to a wake-up competition and may be spoiled because of that.
In Paradise, you don't have to worry about that. Of course there are stupid people who don't want to understand and early in the morning book few chairs with their towels to in fact come much later. The staff is taking care of that and removing all towels or other stuff on all booked chairs until 9AM. People get mad but if there are not happy, they can go to other resorts and use the ugly and dirty plastic camping chairs.

If you have the smallest problem in your room, it can happen, contact immediately the reception, they will hurry to solve it.

Internet is now free of charge. When we arrived they were installing a new WLAN network. It didn't work well the first days but after few adjustment it was fine, the speed and signal were correct.

We agree with everybody saying that Paradise is like Heaven. It's a real Paradise!

The Spa is very relaxing, the staff is well trained and they offer very good treatments or massages.

The gardeners are taking a big care of the plants and walking between the bungalows looks like visiting a natural park.

For sure we will come back to Paradise. The bungalow was very good, the staff very nice, and the location is excellent. Klong Prao beach is very quiet and only at few meters from your bungalow. It's pleasant to be able to go to the pool, then to the beach without thinking of taxi or a long walk. I could say that the pool is at less than 20 meters from the beach.

My wife and I have just returned from our first visit to Thailand. After a week of smoggy Bangkok and smoky Chiang Mai we thought we'd be OK to spend a week chilling out on Koh Chang. We also thought we'd be able to 'get away with' cheap, backpacker-type accommodation as we really only wanted to relax on the beach. How wrong you can be. With a combined age of well over 100 and many years of holidaying together under our belt it seems that we can no longer 'rough it'. We can't manage without our little luxuries any more. One night sweating under a fan and we were desperately looking around for somewhere better to stay. That's when we stumbled across the Koh Chang Paradise Resort. One room left for the 6 nights we needed, monstrously over our budget for the week (we eventually settled at 4000 Baht/night I think) but the room looked lovely - so we bought it.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we could not fault this resort. We discussed together whether there was anything that could have made the week better. The only thing we could come up with was that the sea water wasn't quite as clear as we'd have liked. We didn't think the staff were really to be held responsible for this though.
Our bungalow was number A6. It's one of their older ones, being around 10 years old. It stands on the front row, less than 30 paces from the door to the beach. It's a long way from the reception, restaurant and pool areas - perfect for us but maybe not for everyone. The room itself does look a little dated I guess but we felt this added to the charm. There's a lot of varnished woodwork and a very quirky big shower room with plants etc. The bed was massive and very comfortable and from it you can see the dawn break over the sand. The air con worked a treat, sometimes a little too well but that was down to my not figuring out the remote control. There's a safe that's simple to operate so you don't have to worry about leaving the room unlocked when at the beach.
The resort was immaculately tidy. There wasn't a hint of litter anywhere and it was obvious that the staff take some pride in the outdoor environment they provide. I would be out running before 6 most mornings and already staff were sweeping paths, emptying litter bins, tidying up the beach! Attention to the plants and flowers also makes the place feel great. On a few occasions we watched as the head gardener (?) and his staff pruned and trimmed large palm trees etc. You can tell from the look of the resort that they've always had this eye for detail as the planting has a mature feel. Someone on here commented in the past that the resort was full of bugs. Amazing! It's an island in the tropics and the resort is full of lush and beautiful vegetation - bugs, really? The bugs were great. They provided food for the large numbers of lizards, frogs etc. Not to mention the geckos which provide entertainment around the veranda lamp each evening. There are also lots of enormous snails.
We normally eat out a lot and rarely use our hotel other than at breakfast when holidaying. This first meal of the day was excellent at Paradise. There was an enormous range of stuff on offer. To an Englishman abroad some of it can seem a little weird but hey, if you like spaghetti carbonara in the morning, or a plate of curry, then fine by me. The friendly chef on duty each morning soon got used to frying me two eggs, sunny side up and plonking them directly onto the twice toasted brown bread I set before him. Only one broken yolk in the whole week! He also makes a lovely omelette to order, so my wife tells me. We experimented with a few other places to eat nearby. Some good street food in outside the VJ shopping complex, especially the banana roti man. On the whole though we reckoned the Paradise provided a good range of food at a sensible, if not cheap, price. The green curry reduced me to tears more than once. Two rare T-bone steaks with fries and a large salad for about £15. C'mon, where can you get that in Blighty?
Staff manning reception have varying degrees of competency with regard to the English language but all are considerably more fluent than I am in Thai and so I can't fault that. Each morning you pick up fresh beach towels from them. In the evening you just leave them on your veranda and someone picks them up. They even leave a little note to let you know they called.
Mrs 'Smiles all of the time lady' (sorry didn't catch your name) in the small shop by reception is fabulous. She is permanently happy and always ready to help. She sorted a boat trip and scooter for us and nothing was ever too much trouble.
We both agree that our week at the Koh Chang Paradise Resort was the most relaxing time we have ever spent anywhere. The bungalow was perfect for our needs and the resort lived up to our every expectation. We are a bit ambivalent about Thailand as a holiday but if we did go back to Koh Chang we would definitely book bungalow A6 once again.
If you're looking for relaxation in a beautiful environment then look no further.

Room Tip: Pick a beach front room and don't hesitate to take on of the older ones - they're great. We...

My girlfriend and i stayed in the Pool Villa. As a couple looking for a romantic and relaxed atmosphere we couldn't go past the Koh Chang Paradise.
The restaurant on the beach was a sensational setting with fire performers on most evenings for a little entertainment.
The food was lovely.
The beach itself was beautiful, calm and clear with fantastic views. Beach walks were a must.
There is a small shopping precint complete with supermarket, souvenirs and massage shops within walking distance. If you wanted some night life action or more shops then it was a 5 minute taxi ride into the White Sands Beach area.
The staff were friendly.
No complaints with the pool villa. The jacuzzi does not have its own on/off switch and had to be requested to be turned on and off via reception.
The pool and jacuzzi were clean.
Overall, we had a very relaxing and romantic holiday together.

Room Tip: The pool villa came with wifi but i believe the other rooms do not get wifi.

I'm actually writing this from my villa pool. I don't think I have ever been more chilled out. My jaw dropped when I saw our villa. It's magnificent. Total private, I can't hear a peep out of other guests. I looked at the negative comments from other reviewers and most seem to be just spiteful and unjustified. Staff are great! Breakfast is fine (it's not Las Vegas people, get a grip). Room service and mini bar are very reasonably priced. I would describe this resort and the whole of Koh Chang as sleepy. Come here to relax, if you want to party and stay up late go somewhere else.

I paid a lot of money for this place but I feel satisfied it worth it. Treat yourself to a private pool villa and you will struggle find a bad word!
