And ran.Strolled around the grounds with a view to staying at Pennys. The expression on the face of the staff I encountered didn't exude too much confidence,i mean,if they are that unhappy?.Pool area was very nice.Wandering down to the beach...well frankly horrified. What should be a pebble and quite attractive beach(Pearl)was littered, some of which is unmentionable. The two strategically placed sun loungers were coated in grime.Walking back through the common areas,to be honest seemed just ok.Motorbikes were there for rent so pretty essential!!.Recommend check the place out fully before parting with your hard earned cash!.

Was apprehensive about booking Penny's Resort after reading some of the reviews on TA but decided to go ahead based on the cost. I was very pleased with my stay and believe the place to be excellent value for money.

For the people on here moaning about location, please book somewhere else if this is important to you and be willing to pay extra for it. The resort is not on white sand beach and this is reflected in the price. Rooms of this quality would be at least twice as much if it was. The rooms are however, very clean, and have big soft comfy beds which is somewhat a rarity in Thailand where sleeping on a concrete mattress seems common place.

The resort does not have the nicest beach but again if this is important to you then be willing to pay the extra money to be on one. The resort does however have a lovely pool and is only 5 minutes on the motorbike (available to hire) from two of the nicest beeches on the island

This one is a general moan at a number of TA reviews I have read. Okay, the staff here did not speak the greatest English but if this is a problem to you please do not come to Thailand. I'm sure there are plenty of equally beautiful English speaking countries you could visit or maybe you could just stay at home.

Overall excellent value for money. I reccomend and will definitely stay again if I ever go back to Ko Chang.

The hotel is nice, beautifull bungalows just 2 kilometer away from the busy white beach. Problem with the hotel is the staff. Our booking got lost (agoda's mistake offcourse, not the hotel). First night perfect, but we had to swap rooms. Second night we were put in a totally different room outside the resort. Ugly sheets and a dirty bathroom with, as a bonus, a big slug in the shower. It took us 8 hours long before we could complain to the management. Instead of an apology we were told to cancel the reservation and look for a different hotel. After long dilebaration we agreed to sleep 1 night in the ugly room, next day we were placed back in the resort.

I sincerelly hope that the resort has learned from the long discussion we had about being honest to your customers, who actually pay your income. I am affraid that the answer is no. We have not received one apology for the fact that we were put in a room that should cost half the money that we have paid for. I understand that a double or lost booking is a problem, but this is the resorts problem and not the problem of the guest. Offcourse it is always possible to find a mutual solution that is working for both guest and resort.

Furthermore, please do something about the breakfast. The worst we had in 2 months travelling.

Room Tip: Get a room inside the resort. Except from the ants the rooms are stunning, clean and well placed ont...

I'll tell a little story: I love bananshakes. Day one: do you have bananashake? They're on the ment. No... Day two: banana shake? No have. Day three: I bought bananas and yoghurt, please could you make bananashake? After much debate: Yes! I check out, they bill me for the shakes! It's a clean place, but too expensive.

A discret resort and definitely a great place to stay ! Excellent management, comprehensive team, great service and food, good lounge with WiFi.
Having forgotten my laundry at departure, everything was mailed to bangkok... "Bravo"
I recommend that place... :-) even if many tourists already know it....

Located on Pearl Beach, but note there isn't a sandy beach. The pool facing the ocean makes up for not being able to soak in the sea. Plenty of lounge chairs by the pool and beach. 500B refundable deposit needs to be placed for the room key. Short walking distance to the highly-rated Saffron on the Sea for some good Thai food by the sea.

Standard bungalows are by the beach, as well as family ones. The deluxe ones are deeper in. I stayed in a standard bungalow, simply furnished with a small closet, a dresser with a mirror, small TV + stand, mini refrigerator. The patio has a table, chairs and clothes rack. Furniture seemed sufficiently clean and free from offensive odour. Bathroom was functional, water heater worked well, and water pressure was good. Room is air-conditioned, and there is a sliding window with an insect screen so you have the option to sleep without air-conditioning. Sheets and linen were changed on a daily basis. Some wear and tear is evident. Free wifi and cable TV are available. Wifi signal is weak/almost non-existent in the room, however is free of charge, so not complaining. There are mozzies and some ants so prepare repellant or mosquito coil. A lot of greenery about the resort, so that is inevitable to a certain extent.

Scooters are available for rent at 200B a day, they held our ID as security. Remember to check the scooter before riding off, and take pictures if you can. Apparently there was a scratch on the fender that was not present when we rented and they wanted to charge us a penalty. Please remember to wear your helmet! I got fined once in Koh Samui, and the police do issue fines in Koh Chang too, we saw the road block one of the days we were there. I’ve forgotten how much the fine is though.

Staff are friendly, and are at the reception for most of the day until around 9-10pm if I remember correctly. However command of English is not great. Taxi from Penny Resort to Ferry is approx 80B.

In summary, value for the low season prices that we paid, we are not fussy travelers. Resort was relatively quiet throughout our 5 day stay. IMO no need to opt for deluxe bungalows, the standard ones are near the pool and beach, and you can hear the waves as you sleep.

Room Tip: Choose the standard rooms by the beach.

The location is pretty good. Convenient to rent a scooter from the hotel for 200 b/day. We had a nice view of the ocean from our room. Can't swim here though.

When we showed up for breakfast the first morning a little before 9am, they had run out of everything except for some bread and watermelon with flies on it. We got up earlier the next morning and there was a small selection of 2 rice/noodle dishes, 2 ham/sausage plates, and eggs. It was okay.

The restaurant/reception area is a warzone swarming with mosquitos. The resort keeps many large decorative pots of water around the restaurant, and they are all teeming with mosquito larvae. it's a little gross. I was bitten 6 times just waiting to check in. We brought mosquito coils and repellant spray with us whenever we went to the restaraunt area, but it did notalways work, there were just so many of them. We moved to a different resort by the beach after 2 days and there were far fewer mosquitos - the sea breeze and salt water usually keeps them away. If you are sensitive to mosquitos, stay away from here.

Finally, we had a major problem with the room not being sealed. We found 2 large centipedes in the room, which was not a big deal. But the second night, it rained most of the night and water poured in from the windows (?) and flooded the inside of the room. The luggage that we placed on the ground was soaked, and my leather handbag that i just purchased from Vietnam was ruined. We tried to tell the reception person about this, but he had no response - either he did not understand english or did not care. There was no one else around to speak to. Would not stay here again.
