“Lots of CLASS for less cash!”
Reviewed 1 February 2009

This owner designed and run 10 room boutique hotel is what the seasoned traveler seeks to find and returns to. If rooms are available, it will only be because as of yet these folks have not been in business long enough for everyone who intends to come back to have yet got there. On our 6 week trip through Costa Rica and southern Nicaragua these well kept & decorated rooms had the most comfortable matresses we experienced (and we did stay at some upper end places). Victor is a San Francisco trained chef & Katya a trained baker, so their in-house small cafe has an excellent menu well regulated by their son, Marcel. Service by the locally recruited and owner trained 5 member staff is very good and is indicative of a commitment to excellence. Some comments have been made about hot water not being available. This is customary in Nicaragua hotels not on the American plan. Given the temperature outside is between 80- 100 d F + it seems understandable. Our shower water was cool, not cold and certainly refreshing after the heat outside. With that said, I know the owner are considering options in this regard as they do want guests to be fully satisfied. As well there are a couple of inside rooms in this facility that do not have windows due to building restrictions and outside wall availability. As Granada is a beautiful place, the time spent in one's room should be minimal and the lack of a view, hardly worth mentioning. Our preference was one of the upper rear rooms which are quiet and have, with a bit of a stretch, a unique view.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, great service, individualized attention, local decorations, ice cream with Marcel
  • Disliked — sidewalks in all of Granada are often poorly maintained.

Here I sit in the dining room at Hotel Terrasol, enjoying yet again another glorious morning in Granada. The Nica coffee I'm sipping while dining on a simple but ample continental breakfast is divine. I have lived in Costa Rica, where coffee is renowned, but Nicaraguan coffee doesn't get its due. I think it's better than Costa Rican coffee, and at Hotel Terrasol there is no shortage of the hot fresh brew during breakfast hours. I love having breakfast at this charming, dignified establishment for travelers. There is no want for cultural experience while staying at Hotel Terrasol, where guests and locals mingle at all hours in the cozy reception area. The owners are art enthusiasts, gifted conversationalists, and robustly friendly. They are passionate about sharing their country's history and promoting the incredibly talented artists who live in the area. Within minutes of staying here the first time last September, I knew I had found a place that I would visit again and again. So, when I was called four months later to do charitable work in Managua, I began the project by first booking a room for three nights at Hotel Terrasol. For me there is no better way to acclimate to Nicaraguan culture and climate than by being in the company of hoteliers Victor and Katya and their staff at Hotel Terraso, where friendship and street culture reign.

You can read the other posts about how the rooms were comfortable and clean.

We went to Nicaragua for adventure, relaxation, and to experience their culture. Hotel Terrasol owners Victor and Katya happily became our best source of info not only for what to do (and how to do it) in Granada, but also for our travels throughout the rest of Nicaragua. They not only advise you, but happily assist with travel arrangements as well. They are passionate about doing everything that they can to make your trip complete. If, prior to your trip, you do a little research about Nicaraguan history, you may want to chat with the kind owners about the past, the present situation, and hopes for the future. The staff is also friendly and helpful, (and patient with our attempts at speaking Spanish and hand signals).

The food was very good, and the menu quite complete.

From the Hotel Terrasol, it takes about ten minutes (interesting and safe) to walk to the Parque Central. We liked the location.

We will be back.

Very clean, excellent staff, decent breakfast, fair price of $46/night for 2 guests in a room with aircon. Only significant complaint was no hot water. Nevertheless, Terrasol probably deserves its #1 rating in Granada.

We received an immiediate email response from this hotel with regards to the inquiries we had while planning our Nicaraugian adventure. We later found that the hotel's owners Victor and Katya have some computer savy and offer free internet.
We had a minor problem with our room when we arrived which was immediatly dealt with by Victor, in a very friendly manner.
Victor, we found out , was a Chef in San Francisco for many years, after we gushed compliments about the meals we had, which were obviously expertly prepared. I had Churrasco Steak with a Chimicurri Sauce and Lisa had Chicken Breast with Pineapple and Cashews, both very good. The Flourless Chocolate Cake in a Orange Reduction was the best dessert we have ever had anywhere.
We made this our homebase for the trip, coming back from smaller voyages 3 times. Victor held in storage, without charge, excess luggage we didn't need to be burdened with. The rooms were cool and nice and dark at early morning for sleeping. The charming and clean rooms have beautiful local art and pottery. We stayed in 4 different rooms and all were different with individual charm. The water is one temperture, not hot, nor cold but refreshing.
Both Victor and Katya where wonderful hosts and great "native guides" who genuinely wanted us to get the most out of their city and the surrounding area. They can suggest good taxi drivers and local tour companies and can advise you well. Close by Lake Apoyo and Maysaya are a must by the way.
The 45min to 1 hour cab from Managua should run you $35 or less, about 700 cordobas. The address for the hotel is; Avenida Barricada de la Iglesia La Merced. 1c al Oeste y 75 varas al Sur. Granada, Nicaraugua. Phone is [-]. Take that info as the hotel is newer and not known to most Managuan cabbies.
The hotel and the city grew on us and our trip ended with "summer camp hugs", its that kind of place. Enjoy your trip.

Victor and Katya were the most welcoming hosts that we encountered on our travels. They made our stay in Granada the best it could have possibly been. Both Katya and Victor have a wealth of knowelodge of Granada and the surrounding area and are more than willing to help set up any outings or onward travel. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Bathrooms were spotless with plenty of towels. TV had plenty of english channels which was nice. Each room came with a secure lock box for valuables and cash. The fan was powerful yet silent and there is air-conditioning available. Showers were cold but with Granada's heat and humidity it was very refreshing. The included breakfast was fanastic and the dinner menu was amazeing. Hotel Terrasol was truly a home away from home. We cannot thank them enough for everything.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Terrasol for a few days this November. We travelled in Central America for about a month, and this was the best hotel we stayed in. The rooms are spotless, with large bathrooms and cable TVs. The location is excellent, only a few short blocks from the square. The breakfasts are included and yummy. We ended up eating here for most meals because the food Victor cooks is some of the best in the area (my favorite is the chicken with guava and chile). Above everything though is the outstanding service provided by owners Victor and Katya, along with Roberto and the rest of the staff. They speak excellent English, and are on hand for recomendations from tours to bus schedules, even the best area to stay in San Jose! Thank you so much for the memories!
