This hotel is extremely clean, and comfortable. The food at the restaurant is the best we had in Granada. I highly recommend this hotel.

We were in Granada while the very popular Assumption festivities were taking place. Despite having limited vancancies, the owners were more than accomodating and regularly went beyond the call of duty to ensure my gorup and I were catered for.

The Hotel Terrasol restaurant was also exceptional. Interesting dishes cooked with fresh local ingredients.

Having traveled a month around central america, for me this place is trumps in the areas of service, value and food...

Service -
The owners are really what make this place. You feel safe and welcome in this hotel, which was something I highly valued when travelling a country that to me, felt a little off the beaten track. When I arrived, the owner was very accommodating in my choice of room - she will do all she can to satisfy your needs, even if a little fussy as mine were. Her husband was also very helpful when I asked for information on how to do a day trip to Ometepe isalnd.

Restaurant -
The restaurant is up and running again (apparently closed for a little while recently - see below reviews), and I got to sample the owner's creations influenced by local ingredients. Much better than the restaurant touted in the Rough Guide as the best in Granada (El Zaguan). So even if you don't end up getting a booking in this hotel, go and eat in the restaurant.

Value -
One or two slightly negative reviews below, question what all the fuss is about on this hotel. I think the fuss is that it satisfies those of us who want somewhere to stay in the mid range price, but which still satisfies a need to be somewhere with service, cleanliness, free internet access, security (the safes in the room are a major bonus) and a degree of comfort . Nicaragua has budget rooms and expensive rooms, but not so many places cater so well to those of us in the middle, as this hotel does.

  • Liked — the restaurant and the vibe created by the owners
  • Disliked — nothing

I booked a night at Hotel Terrasol based on the reviews written here. The room was rather tight for the three adults that we had in the room. That said the room was clean and functional. The fan kept things cool at night. There was no hot water but the shower seemed relatively warm and refreshing . Breakfast was good- croissant and fruit with coffee. The restaurant was closed the night we were there so cannot comment on that. You are a little further from downtown but still a rather quick walk. If you are looking for a clean room at an affordable rate this would be a good choice.

We are quite low maintanance, and travel a lot in South/Central America. We booked this place based on the reviews on tripadvisor.

I don't have many complaints except that it just didn't live up to the hype in the reviews.

Our room was small, basic and windowless but clean with A/C. The power went out during our stay but no big deal as they had a generator running within minutes.

The resaurant that we had read great reviews about was closed during our stay...so check ahead of time...but I'm not complaining as there are many decent dining options within a 10-15 minute walk. Breakfast was included and it was basic, ok.

The place is average and the staff are great, however we stayed in other places in Nicaragua that were about the same price but were a lot nicer, maybe it was our windowless drab room and a closed restaurant that has me confused about the other wonderful reviews. This place is average, the staff are very nice, the restaurant area looks quite romantic except it was closed, honestly the only complaint is that it's really not worth some of the great reviews...but again check ahead as there seems like there's better rooms than the one we stayed in.

I stayed here a week in January 2009 and I was very pleased with the service, safety, and overall quality of the hotel. The owners are very friendly to the point of providing me with a croissant and coffee to go at 5am for my early trip back to Managua. No hot water but I found the cool showers refreshing. Wireless internet in the downstairs lobby.

The owners of Hotel Terrasol, a husband and wife team from Nicaragua, are the warmest, most accommodating people we met on our ten-day journey. They run a clean, well-equipped hotel for a very reasonable price. They are willing to help with trip planning and any travel advice, and they speak perfect English. They seem genuinely happy to be in hospitality, and are gifted in their profession. The rooms are simple and ample, with lovely views out small box windows of the city, safe boxes for valuables, and air conditioning. The restaurant was not open when we were there, because the owner had been ill and had to close it for a brief time, but it had been rated best restaurant in Granada right before he fell ill, and should be open again soon. They still provide a plentiful continental breakfast.

There is also a computer with Internet in the lobby for anyone to use, which was helpful because we did not bring our own. We love staying here, chatting with the owners, and accessing a lovely city with the comforts of a pleasant home base.

Our only complaint, and it is minor, was that the sheets were a little small for the mattress and would slip off the bed at night. Also, the location is convenient but it is quiet at night and may feel off the beaten path when you do not know the city. We never felt unsafe, though, and it is very close to the market, which is a blast to walk through.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat and wished we could have stayed longer!
