I have never traveled w/ kids before, and Tim and Andreas made it all work. Breakfast, getting us cell phones, introducing us to new friends, spanish lessons, restaurants, this made our first week in Nicaragua EASY. Love those two guys, loved granada, loved the hotel, and the location. Maykel/Micheal/Miguel [not sure what name he goes by] did everything to make our stay great. The staff was extra polite as my kids tried out new spanish on them....in short, the people made it all work.

Room Tip: Ask for the room upstairs w/ the balcony. If there are 5 of you, like w/ us, take the one next door...

La Islita was the perfect hotel for a hardly spanish speaking group in a wonderful city. Tim, Andres, and Maykel made us all feel at home as soon as we arrived, and greeted us with warm smiles and kind regards at every sight. Our room was always clean, spacious, and comfortable.

The bed was a great bed, a bit firm for my taste, but a great bed none the less. The mattresses vary by room, ask for your preference and I'm sure they can help you. The roof top terrace was stunning, and provided a remarkable place to relax with an ice cold Tona from the honor bar. Breakfast was phenomenal, often very healthy, and a mix between "tipicas" and american favorites like chocolate chip waffles, and banana and chocolate chip pancakes. A fresh juice was poured everyday, ranging from pineapple to jaimaca. The coffee was superb, as was the giggle from the kind woman that served our breakfast with a quiet "de nada" in response to my disgustingly gringo "muchos gracias."

Some reviewers have commented on the sound of the local animals, and you would be hard pressed to pretend they don't exist. But, keep in mind, you are going to Nicaragua, enjoy the country as the locals do! We were greeted by roosters every morning. For those that don't appreciate wild life, ear plugs are conveniently left in each room. After a frank discussion of our wake up call by the neighboring roosters at breakfast with a friend, we found a noise canceler in our room. The staff of La Islita is remarkably attentive, discreet, and caring.

The location can't be beat; it's quiet, it's at the end of a cul de sac, and is 2 short blocks from Calle la Calzada. It is a safe, quiet walk, regardless of the time of day or night, and the hotel has a staff member or security guard present at all times.

Upon arriving at La Islita, I had 3 questions:
Can we flush the toilet paper?
Can I drink the water?
What time does the gate close for the night?

You can flush the toilet paper! Most places around town discourage this, and it was nice to have such a small element of American culture intact.
You can drink the water, but the very inexpensive (30 cordobas for 1.5 liters of ice cold awesomeness) is available at the honor bar, and is purified.
The gate closes and locks for the comfort and safety of guests, but a security guard is on hand all night; if you can't recall how to use keys because you've sampled ALL of the rum in Granada (Flor de Cana is remarkable), they will kindly let you in if you knock on the door.

Oh, and did I mention Emitt? Seriously, what a cool dog! He is the perfect combination of guard dog and comfort of home that you could ask for when traveling abroad.

If I ever get a chance to go back to Granada, which I sincerely hope I do, I would happily pass up every other hotel in the wonderful city, to stay at La Islita.

Room Tip: Ask for a preference of mattress soft/firm-ness. Enjoy the ice-cold beer, and give Andres, Tim, and...

La Islita is my new 'hotel of choice' when traveling to Granada. Located at the end of a little street just a few blocks from the Calzada, you escape all the street noise of the city. Ladies, if you are traveling alone, you will feel very safe in this neighborhood.

Tasteful design in the style of old Granada, the hotel has a super friendly and welcoming staff. Tim and Andrés go out of their way to make sure your needs are met and everyone always has a smile. Breakfast is served every morning off the garden. Be sure to go up to the rooftop for a view of the city. I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: I stayed in #6 which has a king bed and private balcony looking into the garden. The room was large...

This really is a fantastic place to stay - very comfortable, great staff, wonderful breakfasts and felt very safe. Originally booked three nights here but loved both it and Granada so much we stayed six. Would go back instantly if I could. Well done Tim and Andreas, spot on... and as for the roof terrace. Magic - best place in town to watch the sun go down with a cold Tona... Steve

Had a one-night stay in this tucked-away little place before flying out from Managua. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful and the place has very tasteful and unique interior design in an old building. Tons of character and very reasonably priced. There was four of us in two rooms. My companion and I had a fantastic room on the first floor, very spacious. The other two were not so lucky and the room on the ground floor had no windows and was a bit noisy, although still very comfortable. Other than that, I would recommend La Islita without hesitation.
