“Amazing natural beauty close up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

The Isletas on Lake Nicaragua are just so beautiful. Filled with all kinds of fowl and other animal life, including howler monkeys. You can experience itin two main ways, either in kayaks you paddle or motorized tour boats. Tours are two and four hours, if I understand right. I kayaked two hours twice. Peaceful, fun, fascinating scenery and a very good cardio and upper body workout. $20 a person, including guide.
Getting to the kayak launch area is fun too, a four mile or so bike ride along the lake front, past cows and steers and one of the coolest public park areas I've ever seen.
Use caution and lots of strong sun screen. It's easy enough to get sunburned anywhere in Granada. On the water you can get a burn in just 20 or 30 minutes. It's hard to imagine just how intense the sun is there. Bring plenty of water.
Our guides brought us to an island restaurant a couple miles out into the islets, where we had a beer and decent BBQ.
I used Leo tours on the Calle Calzada both times, and was happy with the guides. They're one of several good and reputable outfits offering various tour and guide packages. DO NOT use anyone who doesn't have a business office as a tour guide. There are scammers working the area.

“Not worthwhile”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

We did this as part of our Monkey Tours Costa Rica & Nicaragua Tour. While this boat tour was fun, we only saw 3 monkeys which had been planted there as pets, they were not from the wild. Besides those 3 and some birds, we didn't see any more wild life. Mainly just saw expensive homes on the different islands, but overall I wouldn't make this a priority for an activity in Granada.

“Nicaragua on the water”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

When you think vacation you may not jump to Nicaragua as a typical vacation destination. This, however, is far from the reality as this gem offers great prices and fabulous views. When travelling to Nicaragua, Granada should be on your list of must visit. You will be charmed by the quiet culture and the vast beauty of the place.

There will be many things to buy too. And, if you are savvy, you will come away with a treasure at bargain prices.

“Granada Nicaragua Islets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

We live in Bluefields, NI 6 months a year and when we want to take a holiday we travel to Granada. The trip around the islets is always relaxing and we always see something new. There are many offers along the walk in the park to take you around. The prices vary so be smart in who you choose as the boat ride.

“Time to Relax on a Boat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

We went to Isleta after walking around Mombacho for a few hours so it was perfect to relax a bit. It was nice boat ride around the islands that were formed after the volcanic explosion from Mombacho. We saw some spider monkeys and took some great pics at the old Spanish fort.
