Hotel La Bocona is a beautiful colonial style hacienda that was redesigned and refurbished into an elegant 6 room B&B just 3 blocks from the heart of the downtown plaza. My friend and I stayed in the large room with two king size beds which was bigger than many full sized apartments. High ceilings, marble floors, huge wooden doors, on-property spa, all amenities -- except air conditioning! We were there in late March during sunny, 90 degree weather. Frankly, if we had stayed in the room during the day it would have been pretty hot, but the room was equipped with ceiling fans and two standing fans which did a delightful job of keeping the evening/nighttime air circulating. Each room has its own large elegant bathroom, but you do have to go down the hallway since the bathroom is not actually in the bedroom. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Call/email Nadine at the hotel.

Yes, you'll probably hear some street noise; yes, the restroom is across the courtyard; yes, the rooms may be a trifle warm (use the fan). Yes, this is an amazing place that's very comfortable for guests, does great things for its community, and is a hotel I would happily book it for my next trip.

Six friends and I spent 3 nights here in mid February, and we couldn't have been happier.

Thinking of La Bocona as a typical hotel with cookie cutter rooms off a long hall totally misses the point. Staying here is like staying at your wealthy aunt's villa in Granada, if you had a wealthy aunt with a villa in Granada. The whole place is spotlessly clean and filled with art. The spacious rooms are off two main courtyards (one with a rose garden and the other with the pool, each with sitting areas), and while the rooms all have amazingly high ceilings and wonderfully comfy canopy beds each room I saw seemed to be unique with its furnishing and art. Each room has its own bathroom, and while I was a little concerned when they said it was across the courtyard it turned out not to be a big deal at all--and prevented the awkwardness that can sometimes come from having a bathroom too close to your bedroom.

I didn't visit the spa, but some of my colleagues did and they were both blissed out for an hour or so after their massages and couldn't stop raving about how nice it was.

The hotel staff was my favorite part--their hospitality was second to none (and better than the more traditionally lux places we stayed in San Juan del Sur and Managua). The kitchen crew produced amazing breakfasts and snacks (where oh where can I get another pineapple cake??), and the front desk team helped arrange a rescue for a jacket lost at the airport, tipped us off on some great tours/drivers and helped us find a take out restaurant when we wanted to have dinner in. (There's not really room-service per se, but you can bring in supplies easily acquired in the surrounding shops.)

We all had a great time, and a book and a nica libre by the pool on a sunny afternoon is about as good as vacationing can get.

This place didn't feature among the top hotels in Granada (no idea why not), we happened to find out about it from a leaflet in a hotel in Managua (Casa Naranja), and what luck we did. Staying at this hotel made our stay in Granada so pleasant and peaceful. We could hardly believe it when we were shown our room. There was the vast space and height of ceiling, but more than that the beautiful restoration of the rooms, the furniture and floor tiles, it is all so perfectly done, and the effect is as stylish as any of the fashionable boutique hotels in New York or London, but to stay at a place this luxurious and elegant in one of those cities would cost considerably more than this. We were incredibly impressed by how beautiful and tranquil it is here, the staff were very welcoming, the breakfasts delicious (served by chatty Olga - I wish my Spanish was better so I could have had longer conversations), and little touches like being brought cold bottles of water and tea and cake in the afternoons added to the feeling that nothing was too much trouble.

I particularly loved the well maintained courtyards, one with a lush garden, one with a pool and sun loungers. There were only a few other couples staying here, and we felt as though we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The location is ideal - a short walk from the noise of the the main square. Half of the profits of the hotel go to a local health and educational centre for young people. There are a few other hotels in the town that do the same, such as Con Corazon.

It's true that there's no aircon and the bathrooms are separate from the bedrooms, but our room had 2 ceiiing fans and another fan which we moved so it was next to our bed at night, and that kept us cool enough. I would rather forgo A/C for a few nights to enjoy the character of this place, it's so much more charming than the average hotel - I thoroughly recommend it.

Gorgeous colonial building with two beautiful courtyard areas. Rooms are also really attractive and spacious and come complete with four-poster, dining table and wardrobes - all period pieces. An incredibly tranquil spot so close to the centre of Granada.
The breakfasts are perfect and the complimentary cake in the afternoon also really good. So many nice touches like bringing welcome bottles of ice cold mineral water when you return.
It is a bit churlish to complain about such a beautiful setting with fantastic staff, but for the record the shower is a bit of a trickle, the rooms can be a bit warm and occasionally noisy from the street. Would also like to see the drinks/room snacks properly stocked up, Having said that, I would definitely return, this place is utterly idyllic.

We loved this hotel! Perfect location and all the staff was lovely! Olga makes the best eggs since my Dad! One thing I would recommend is that get rid of the dining table in the rooms that seat 10 (and becomes a catchall) and make a seating area. Other than that, a lovely stay! Noise wasn't a problem after we went to bed. The bathrooms were a bit disppointing. Water is a trickle and one day we had none but Olga fixed it quickly. Still a trickle.

We are glad that you enjoyed your 5 day stay with us! We are considering your suggestion to make a seating area in that guestroom because with 1400 square feet, there is plenty of room to do so without removing the dining set for 6-- that is used quite often for in-room private dining and meetings.

Unfortunately, while you were here, the city of Granada was experiencing water issues with pressure. To combat this on-going Central American problem, we installed a machine that will pump both the city water and our backup tank's water through our system to always maintain excellent pressure.

Olga was very flattered to hear your comments about her cooking! She is a gem!

Thank-you!

La Bocona felt like home with excellent service from "doña Olga".
It's a small hotel where it feels like you are the only guest and the fact that the bathroom is outside the room didn't bother us. Bathrobes and slippers are provided to walk the few meters in the garden. Besides the fine style of the hotel itself it is also nice to know that half of the revenue derived from La Bocona is used to support Carita Feliz, a centre for young under-privileged people that promotes health, education and personal development. We will stay again at this lovely hotel.
