“Nice if you like patios”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

If you're into patios, this is your hotel! There's plenty of them, all very nicely decorated. There's not too many rooms in this hotel, so it's kind of cozy, and you can easily find an unoccupied patio to lounge on (if you can bear the tropical heat). Our room was nice. The A/C worked well, although it dripped water on the floor. There was plenty of hot water. The hotel has a large (long) and clean pool for swimming. The staff mostly spoke English. Anka was very helpful. Breakfast was included and was good. The only negative was that it's a rather long walk to the main restaurant area, and it gets tedious in the heat. At night there are some dark blocks on the walk, and someone alone may not feel entirely safe. If the location were closer in, I might have given it a 5 star, but in the Granada heat and humidity, it's important to be closer to where all the food and entertainment is, and there are plenty of hotels closer.

Room Tip: The upstairs suite might be the best choice, if you can afford it.

Dear ZDirk

Thank you for your review of Los Patios Hotel. We appreciate you taking the time to write about us and Granada. We are so happy that you got to explore the different patios in the hotel, and we are happy you found them well decorated! We also appreciate your praise for the breakfast.
It does get extremely hot in Granada. Now that were are in the rain season, it also gets very humid. Apart from the heat, we hope you had a wonderful stay at Los Patios, and we thank you again for taking the time to write about us.

Kind regards,

We spent three nights at Los Patios and loved it. The layout of spaces and design were beautiful and inspiring. The staff was very helpful. It felt like a hotel and a home in one. They could have built more rooms for guests but chose to make separate, beautiful open spaces where guests can lounge and enjoy the delicious coffee or help themselves to the beverages in the refrigerator. It is very close to everything central in Granada but perfectly distanced to keep things quiet. Their breakfast is delicious too. I would highly recommend this hotel. And like other said, the pictures do not do it justice.

We spent two nights at Los Patios during our nine-night trip to Nicaragua (moving on for six nights at Morgan's Rock and then a final night at Hotel Casa Naranja in Managua).

The property is very special and the pictures truly don't capture the beauty of this hotel---it felt like we were staying at a private property, especially each morning when we had our breakfast made for us and as we helped ourselves to the beverages in the refrigerator (more on that later!).

We were in room #2, which was on the first floor of the property. There was a safe and plenty of room to unpack our belongings. Bathroom was spacious. We found the room/accommodations nicely decorated, safe and clean. We loved spending our early mornings, afternoons and post-dinner evenings in the open courtyard lounging on the chairs by the pool.

Our interaction with the service of staff was different than the reviews we read and from what another couple experienced when they checked in the day before us (with Armondo?). The woman at the front desk (she didn't introduce herself) was reserved and although professional, she didn't go out of her way to make us feel welcomed---she seemed surprised to see us upon arrival (almost like we weren't expected.... and this after trying to open the front door for 10 minutes) and the tour of the property and our room seemed brief and vague (and definitely wasn't due to a language barrier, which I would understand). She made a lovely breakfast and answered our questions about restaurants and the ATM, but all interactions left us wanting slightly more hence the lower Service rating. She also charged us for 11 beers when we only had seven (which we didn't realize until in the car and on our way to Morgan's Rock, which at that point wasn't worth correcting... just more to the point she seemed unattached/disinterested).

One example---when I went to the hotel's refrigerator for the first time there was an opened bottle of wine and as I turned to ask her if this was a community bottle, she beat me to my question and told me it belonged to someone else---but she didn't offer what *was* available or explain my options. Not a huge deal, I decided I would buy a bottle in town since I figured that is what the other guest did. Before I had the chance to do so, however, later that day the couple we met mentioned they had a bottle of wine in the refrigerator, so I asked her which shop she bought it and she told me Armondo took care of it for her. To further confuse things, the next day there were small bottles of wine in the refrigerator and when I asked her (the staff member) about it, she said they were available (without any sort of acknowledgement that I had inquired yesterday and that they were restocked over night, etc..). Not the end of the world---it's wine---and it doesn't impact my overall recommendation---stay here!---I only mention it in case you want a high-touch experience. Sounds like from other reviews you will most likely get it---we simply didn't and that is/was OK.

Based on a tip by the aforementioned couple, I booked a massage---AMAZING. The masseuse sets up her table towards the back of the property under a canopy (also in an open courtyard) and it was an hour of pure bliss (for $35 USD). The couple also shared a dinner recommendation they received (from Armondo).... El Zaguan... and that was DELICIOUS. Wonderful steak, friendly service. The second night we went to Bistro Estrada (recommended by Los Patios)... the food was good, but even better was the over-the-top friendly waiter who truly made us feel welcome. Great dinner recommendations.

Loved being in a neighborhood, versus in the busier market area.... absolutely appreciated the pool and took many dips.... beautiful setting and comfortable accommodations.... felt safe at all times both within the property and outside of it... and the breakfast was a lovely touch. We didn't inquire about tours or excursions, but knew they were available. Simply enjoyed wandering through the streets of Granada, enjoying good food and relaxing by the pool. Would definitely stay here again (and simply pick up a bottle of wine on my way in or know small bottles were coming!).

We spent two of our five nights in Nicaragua here. We enjoyed the room on the second floor (the largest one) immensely. The room itself was huge and the king bed so comfortable. The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom. The design and the huge tub and separate shower were fantastic. I don't know how long it would take to fill this tub. We did not try. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the room. The design of the entire place is wonderful. The staff were very professional and helpful. I forgot a necklace in the room safe and they were willing to send it to me for free back to the U.S. It arrived the other day. We loved the breakfasts and choices provided. The pool was a decent size and helped with the heat in the afternoon. The hotel is small and I liked that it felt very private. It is a little bit away from the center, but very walkable. One of the best hotel experiences in recent times.

We stayed two nights at Los Patios Hotel on our vacation and the hotel was wonderful!

What makes this hotel special is the attitude of the owners coupled with the overall design of the hotel. In a word Los Patios is generous. There is a welcoming spirit you can feel. Like you are a trusted friend in the beautiful home of a trusted friend. The pictures don't do the common area justice....it's spectacular.

Great breakfast...they even had to go coffee ready for us when we left at 4AM. The pool was wonderful cool and deep.

Although it is an extra 5-7 min walk from town....I liked the quiet, and never felt in danger, if you do a taxi ride from the center of town is $1.

Try to get a room upstairs as the view is beautiful. As for the rooms themselves to be honest they could have been a bit cleaner (we are talking hard water stains etc in the bathroom, the hotel was sanitary.....sheets, beds etc. clean). The suite we had was big and did not have the best use of space (no table in the room, but I could do a cartwheel in the bathroom and there were 7 bays of closet space).
In the end I will stay there again and would highly recommend this hotel. Bliss awaits.

Room Tip: Upstairs unit was nice

My partner and I had a fantastic stay at Los Patios. The various lounging areas are incredibly welcoming and wonderful in the heat of the day. The staff of the hotel were incredibly helpful and set up our excursions and transportation. Definitely get the suite upstairs with the balcony if it's available! The views of Mombachu are breathtaking. Breakfast was always delicious.

Los patios is the first place we stayed in while we were in nicaragua. It was a really good start of a two week trip. We stayed here for 4 nights, and didn't have any bad experiences. The staff is polite and kind, and made one of the best breakfasts we have ever had! We still talk aboutit now, weeks later. The hotel itself is stylish, with danish design all around. It has 5 rooms and is really spacious. The pool is nice to cool off after a trip, or walk trough granada. We did some trips with our 2 children (4years and 4 months), the staff arranged it for us, and checked out wether some things were possible or not with the baby. We apreciated it a lot. We had a good time, and, for sure, will be back there one day.
