This hostel gets its good reviews for a reason. The facilities, the rooms, the whole place is just really nice. The dorm was spacious and the beds huge!

During the first night we had a bedbug incident. There bugs all over the bed of a friend of mine. We were 4 people and the rest of the beds were fine, but he was unlucky. In the middle of the night he could move into a single room and we explained the situation to the owner the next day. The reaction was amazing.

My friend could stay in the single room for the rate of a dorm room. The dorm was cleaned instantly and they even took off a wooden thing behind the bed because bedbugs could hide there. They were aware of the this highly delicate topic Bedbugs and they were thankful for our help searching for places. Not once they blamed us but asked were the bugs were and where we saw them etc.

We stayed another night and we experienced other really really terrible hostel staff. But this hostel definitely stands out on my 8 week trip through Central America.

It is important for our future guests to understand a review written and we found this review to be very confusing as he has given us 5 stars but an awful review , the reviewer is either mixing us up with another hostel or is just upset with our policies.

He wrote 'Amazing staff ' as the headline but then goes on to say how bad their experience was with the terrible staff we have.
I cannot reply to this because I do not understand the comment.

He then continued to write that they also decided to stay another night after writing a 3rd party review for their friend who had a disastrous night with bugs on his first night.
Why would a guest stay a 2nd night if their first was so disastrous plus our dorm is always cleaned everyday.

The reviewer then goes onto write 'highly delicate topic Bedbugs'.
If he felt it was highly delicate then why write it here and why give us five stars, does not make sense.

We do have a strict policy guests must sign when checking in since the day we opened of no backpacks on bags or near beds as to prevent dirty linen and bedbugs. Some guests are upset with this policy when we ask them to move their bags as they think we are accusing them of not being clean or do not want anyone touching their property.
This is a prevention method only to protect both the business, future guests and other hostels/hotels from bugs and also not to leave marks on the linen.

In months past we have had guests who have found bedbugs in their backpacks and blamed us then found out the hostel they were at before had the problem. They apologised when realising it was not our fault or their fault after doing some research. Not sure if this was the case here.

Not all guests agree with this or our other policies and have no respect for other guests or our staff and so write a review so that the hostel loses business and customers then eventually has to close.

My friends and I stayed here in September this year and found it to be a great hostel. The staff was very helpful, the dorm rooms were really nice and spacious - everyone had their own fan that actually worked. It was a quiet place when we were there, even though the dorm was full - definitely easy to relax if you're on your own. It's just around the corner from the Chocolate Museum which I suggest you check out - all you can eat breakfast for $6. The hostel was located just around the corner from a great coffee shop and the city center. It was about a 15-20 minute walk down to the beach but it's a beautiful walk and you can admire the mountains and the prettily painted building along the way.

Food is a little pricey at the hostel - like many places but it was overall really good.

Great place to check out for a weekend!

My friend and I were traveling on a short-term trip, but this seemed like an awesome place to stay if you were out for the long haul. Not that we didn't enjoy our stay, but a lot of the amenities (kitchen, washing machine, etc.) are much appreciated when you're long-term backpacking.

We stayed in the room above it all (I forget the name of it), which was large and, most importantly, had two pedestal fans. We also toured the dorm, which looked nice, clean, open and airy.

The man at the front desk (I feel bad for forgetting his name) was very helpful, both with general tourist tips for Granada and with setting up our transportation to the border.

Oh, and the refill option for water bottles is super!

I stayed at this hostel this weekend. I have to say that the pictures don't do it any justice. It is just magnificent, there are a good load of amenities available (starting with the iPads). I stayed in Room Masaya, it is actually much larger than in the picture, so that was a nice surprise. The bathrooms were very clean, the rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated. The rates are just right. I loved it. They would knock it out of the ball park if they only had a pool. The staff was always looking out for your best interest.

Room Tip: Masaya Room is great for people traveling in groups of 3, and the rates a good.

Stayed here w some friends and it was a calm little oasis of a hostel.
Pros: really nice building in a good position, good couches and chill out area, good wifi, great bathrooms, good rooms w a tv, reading lamps, decent beds. More like a little hotel than hostel. Kitchen facilities and nice cafe area.
Cons: little more exxy than expected. Aircon extra. No breakfast (so annoying).

All in all a lovely place to stay w very helpful staff!

Room Tip: Check out a few rooms to decide what's best for you- all a little but different.

Thank you for writing a review, we always want future guests reading this to get a correct interpretation of what we offer and what to expect.

Your review lets the future guest know that we offer lots of amenities to make them comfortable but we are expensive and should have included breakfast and AC and as all reviews this is subjective.

With Hostal El Momento we have tried to offer a little more than other hostels in town but we are still a hostel not a hotel. At present we are located between the hostels and the cheaper hotels in town when comparing prices and how the hostel presents itself.
You say we are expensive and comparing with the cheaper hostels in town yes we are, comparing with other hostels we are on par or cheaper and for that we offer firm comfortable mattresses, nice bed linen,tv in rooms.2 tv's in the lounges, safes, free wifi, free towels, free shampoo and soap newly tiled bathrooms etc, which you have given some very positive reviews.

If we include Aircon (which we do not have) and breakfast ( which we do have on our menu) our prices would be double. Aircon in Granada usually costs between $30-$60 a night as Nicaragua has the highest electric bills in Central America.

In conclusion we are a hostel that offers alot more in comfort for the guest than the other hostels but at a minimal cost.
Type of guest that stay we us are:- those that do not mind paying a little more than other hostels
( $1-$4 ) for extra comfort in a relaxing environment with some hotel amenities or those that don't want hotel prices but still want comfortable surroundings.
Type of guest that do not stay:- those that are on a minimal budget and would like breakfast/laundry/coffee etc included or those that think we are a hotel and offer AC and hot water but at hostel prices.

It is important for guests that check in or make bookings with any hotel/hostel to know what they have to offer before committing and making a payment as well as researching the area to compare prices.
If there are specifics that you want or are on a budget the accommodation you have chosen may not offer these and may offer alternatives that have not interest to you which I think has happened here with you.

We do thank you for taking your time to write here and for the positive review and although my response was quite long I wanted to others to get a true picture of what we are.

We had a fantastic stay at this hostel. Friendly staff, good food, and very helpful with tours, laundry, and information about Granada. It is very central in the city, and it was nice to not have to use taxis or buses to get around. We stayed in the room off of the kitchen, and were awakened by the bustle of cooking breakfast for the early risers. If you intend to sleep in, ask to have a room away from the kitchen.
