“Most perfect accommodations in Granada”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

The Hotel Colonial is just off the main square where trinkets of every kind are sold every day. Just to the north and west, is the massive cathedral that anchors the Promenade/entertainment district. It is lined with restaurants of every description, leather purveyors and sundry bars.

The hotel itself is picture perfect. We stayed for 2 days and three night and fell in love with the place. The pool in the courtyard is strategically located so it gets great morning sun, to bag a few rays, and then shades once the sun gets high up and too hot. The tiled floors, colonial Spanish architecture and voluminous flowers are compelling. The rooms are clean and generous and the staff attentive to you every need. At $80 per night, this is a bargain of the first order. Be sure to dictate your price or be prepared to pay $100-110.

My wife and I and a few friends spent three lovely nights at Hotel Colonial, on a room and breakfast package. It was great - old world charm in the elegant and eclectic building and furnishings, new world warmth in the great, welcoming hospitality from the manager and staff. Breakfast was adequate, if a little lacking in variety, but the fruits in particular were great. A special feature was the wonderful work by Nicaraguan artists all over the property. Turned out that some were in fact for sale, at what seemed like unbelievably low prices! The warmth and charm of the hotel aptly complement the general atmosphere of the area, with the square, the park, the cathedral and many great restaurants all within walking distance. This was our first trip to Nicaragua and we'll certainly be back and back at the Colonial in Granada.

We stayed at "Hotel Colonial" for a couple of nights and we loved it. Then we continued our travel, but after one night away from Granada and Hotel Colonial, we decided to come back for a day. We kept extending our stay until we had no vacation days left. Hotel Colonial isn't just a beautiful Colonial style building, but it also offers a warm and friendly feeling. The rooms are clean and of good size. The service is just excellent and the personnel is always ready to make our stay hassle free. We got our best tourist information from hotel employees and they know the best places to eat in town. The bar opens from 10:30am-10:00pm and they make the best Papaya shakes in town. You can find a couple of very good breakfast (free) options starting at 7:30am. The hotel is also in a convenient location, since it is right on the heart of town and within walking distance from the best restaurants. The hotel has 2 pools that are clean and very pretty. I would stay at hotel colonial given the chance without any hesitation. For those tech folks, just a heads up.. Wi-Fi is a bit slow than what we would hope for, but on vacation time that shouldn't matter too much.

Room Tip: Room 15 is right in front of the pool, a few steps from the breakfast area and from the bar. I sure...

Hi Racso13

Thank you very much for commenting us on Tripadvisor. We did appreciat having you with us and hope that it will not be for the last time.
Our WLAN installation will be replaced in the next week. The connection got definitely to slow. We had to change the company and will make a completely new installation.

We send you our kind regards and hope to see you again in Granada.

The staff really made me feel special. Always asking if I needed anything. Owners were present and asking as well. Absolutely beautiful. If I am ever in Nicaragua again, I will make sure to circle around for a couple of days!!!!

We stayed here 3 nights and enjoyed everything about the hotel. More than helpful staff, clean and comfortable room, terrific breakfast and service. A flawless pick-up was arranged for us from the airport in Managua. The front desk personell and managers went out of there way to suggest restaurants and activities. So, inviting, we stayed additional 2 nights after a trip to Ometepe. If you are looking for a 4 star US hotel in Nicaragua you won't find one. After 2 weeks in Nicaragua, Hotel Colonial was the closest to luxury you will find and we highly recommend the hotel.

Upon our arrival we had a problem with the reservations. Not the fault of the hotel, but Expedia. The managers went above and beyond to make it up to us. I don't think my family would have received even half of the service from another hotel. The hotel is very pretty and clean. It is in a great location and everyone who works here is thoughtful and professional. The managers lead by example which is a trait that is not found often anymore. We are sold on Nicaragua and we will return to this hotel. Please keep up the wonderful work it is rare to see.

Room Tip: Room 11 could have been an apartment.

We drove in to the hotel at 5 pm and since there were 3 of us, we got a suite with 3 beds. It was lovely. It overlooked a courtyard where everything was in bloom. The hotel has 2 swimming pools, one of which is very secluded. We had breakfast in the courtyard that was beautifully presented. The hotel is right around the corner from the main square where the cathedral is located. There was live music in the square at night. All in all, I couldn't have been happier with my experience.
