This is one of Granada's jewels! Adjacent to the Parque Central and the Cathedral this little beauty is full of old world charm and first class service. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly and the rooms are impeccable. Remo Aere, the new manager as of last year, ensures that each guest is comfortable and encourages customer feedback.

For the second year in a row we have thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful facility, great accommodations and friendly/helpful service at the Hotel Colonial. I am one of more than a dozen members of a mission team serving in Nicaragua. Our last evening treat 2 years in a row has been to stay at this great hotel. The rooms are spacious, well appointed, colorful and so welcoming and inviting! This year I was fortunate to meet and spend time speaking with Remo Aere, the GM. With his enthusiasm and knowledge of the attractions in the area, I hope to come back before our next mission visit to spend more time here and fully enjoy some of the natural attractions of Nicaragua - including more time at Hotel Colonial.

This place is beautiful, the interiors are stunning, great tile work. Room was quiet, everything else was excellent. Front desk VERY helpful! We were a bit worried about street noise as it is so close to the main square, but...not a problem!

Dear KJ

Thank you so much for your kind comment.

Yes, you are right, we are just 25 meters beside the main square and a 100 meters beside the Cathedral. Inside the Hotel you hear nothing from the rushy life outside. We are very happy about this sjtuation. Guests just love it coming back after a nice day tour to spend relaxed moments beside the pool in our lush gardens.

We are looking forward seeing you one day again at Hotel Colonial. Please let your friends know what a beautiful city Granada and beautiful country Nicaragua is.

Kind regards towards San Diego

Upon arrival in Granada in January 2013, we had reservations for a 2 night stay at another major hotel located nearby. Due to an oversight, our room was not available. They did however, do us a favour by steering us to the Hotel Colonial Granada. And we were glad they did! We were accommodated with a large colonial-esque room with king-sized 4-poster bed. How romantic! Breakfast was included. And the rate was under $100/night. Management was exceptional (english-speaking from Switzerland). We would stay here again!

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks in early June. We are back again eight days. This is the seven. We were very pleased with the hotel last time, and it is just as good. We have stayed at the top hotels in town and this is our favorite. The price is also very reasonable.

Hotel Colonial is 50 feet from the main square. You can walk to almost everything. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The bed is comfortable, air-conditioning works fine, breakfast is excellent and the staff is great. There is also a bar and small swimming pool. The price is very reasonable and they have low season specials on their website. Both times, we have been here in the rainy season which is just fine for us. It rains for an hour or so and then is clear and cooler.

We give Granada and Hotel Colonial our highest recommendation. My wife and I are very experienced travelers all over the world. Granada is one of our favorite places. It is just touristy enough. This means that there are enough tourists so that there are good restaurants and hotels, but not so many that they overwhelm the local flavor.

A friend joined us for two nights and loved Granada and the hotel. When you get to town, take the horse carriage ride to get an orientation, and then take a one-hour tour of the small islands near town in Lake Nicaragua. With this orientation there are plenty of other things to do. We like to hire guides because they tell us the stories behind the sites which is very useful. They are not expensive here.

I have business in Nicaragua and have a driver take me to Managua everyday which is about one hour away. My wife stays in Granada. She is taking Spanish lessons and has explored most of the city. Managua is not very interesting, but Granada is great.

This place is exactly in the center of the town, you cant really beat it. Location wise perfect because everything is literally steps away. The town center, banks, shops, restaurants, i mean everything within a block!! The rooms were nice has a little balcony to smoke and people watch if you can withstand the heat. Rooms are clean and safe that should be your number 1 priority. Staff/Owner/Mgmnt they are on top of their game. They met all of our american standards by far. My friend left his brand new Galaxy S4 and credit card in the room as we were checking out, and the maid actually brought it down to us as we were waiting for a taxi for our next excursion. Honesty you cant beat that. All the receptionist also spoke english which was a plus. The water also has a sulfur like smell maybe well water...not really sure but that shouldnt be a deal breaker guys. Ok so sorry guys but I do have only 1 complaint and that is why I cant give you guys the perfect ten... You guys dont have a fridgerator...sorry. Other than that like I said I would recommend this place to the queen!! FYI we got 2 queen beds in one room for about $100 usd.

Room Tip: Pic a room any room this is a safe spot.

Dear (sorry I don't know your name)

Thank you so much for your kind comments on TripAdvisor. Knowing that our guests are happy while their stay at Hotel Colonial, gives us the energy trying to make everything as pleasant as possible for you. It was a big pleasure having you and your friends at Hotel Colonial.

Refrigerators: you can send the queen at any times :-)
To avoid wasting lots of energy, we decided taking all the refrigerators out of the rooms because people rarely used them. The solution: If guests wish to have a refrigerator in their room, two minutes later they get one. We kept some for providing this service if requested. So if you come back next time, just let us know. We are happy to put one in your room.

We hope you will come back to beautiful Granada and would look forward welcoming you again at Hotel Colonial.

With our kindest regards

If you travels take you to Granada, you must stay at the Hotel Colonial. It is an outstanding hotel in many different ways. The hotel is very attractive and the rooms quite spacious. The service is exceptional -- from the front desk to the restaurant to the bar to the manager himself. Everyone took the time to make our stay pleasant -- suggesting places to go, wonderful tour guides, fine restaurants. They really go the extra mile!
