“Misleading and Irresponsible”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

We called Casa San Francisco (and a bunch of other places) on our way to Granada and were relieved that they said they would be able to accommodate us during a very busy time in the city. We made arrangements over the phone and took a taxi there specifically. when we arrived, with all our things, the woman at the front desk gave us a rate $10 higher per room than the rate we were given on the phone. She also said that tax would be added to the room rates, when the phone conversation made it pretty clear that tax was included (we travel a lot in Latin America-- this is an important question to ask at any hotel).

When we explained that we were quoted a different rate by someone else, she called the other woman on the phone and asked her about it. From hearing her side of the conversation, it was clear what happened-- the woman who quote the price made a mistake. This woman must not have expected that we understood her Spanish, because when she hung up, she accused my friend of giving her the wrong price!

The other woman, who I think is the owner, Kim, came to the desk and explained that she had made a mistake and would have to charge us the higher rate anyway. She was not apologetic nor did she seem to care that we had confirmed a rate and then taken a taxi there specifically and had very few other options. We left and stayed elsewhere

The problem for me was not that she made a mistake, but that their solution was first to purposefully try to blame us for misrepresenting a conversation, and then when that didn't work, to not take any responsibility for the error. It was a pain to trek around with our bags to find another place (which wasn't as nice, honestly) but we didn't want to condone this sort of business practice. There are plenty of places in Granada to stay.

I live in Latin America and manage a hotel so i have certain expectations of hotels and i also understand when things dont go as planned at a hotel however i have always approached my job trying to do what i can to please the guest because without happy guests we wont have a hotel. when my friend and i were on our way to Granada via taxi from Rivas we took advantage of the taxi drivers cell phone to secure a hotel room. I called Casa San Francisco and was told that there was a room available for $75, we agreed, reserved and stopped calling other hotels. we arrived, unloaded the taxi and the front desk clerk told me i was mistaken it is $85 plus tax, i politely disputed and she finally called the manager (Kim) who came and admitted that she (i talked to the manager on the phone) had made a mistake on the phone and that it is $85 plus tax. At my hotel i would have apologized and offered the room at the rate i quoted but they politely but sternly refused, at least admitting it was their mistake but not willing to accept responsibility even though we had taken a taxi especially to their place and had stopped looking for another room. Out of principle I was unwilling to stay there after this and we had to start walking with all our luggage and looking for a hotel room, it took about an hour but we found some other really nice accomodations that i will return to. Hotel Colonial is very nice and has excellent customer service.

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. It's beautiful and so affordable (like all of Nicaragua, really), and the service is unbeatable; everyone is so warm, friendly and accomodating. They arranged so many things for us: isletas tour, mombacho, etc. The building and rooms are gorgeous, the restaurant is great, and there's a wonderful little roof top terrace. I hope I get to stay here again someday.

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Casa San Francisco. We have stayed there in the past. A charming and comfortable boutique hotel, located centrally, friendly English speaking staff, good restaurant in-house. great value, and owners Nancy Bergman and Terry Leary on hand to make you feel welcome. Great value, our favorite hotel in Granada.

We had a pleasant stay at this centrally located hotel, but weren't overall impressed with the services, taking the prices in consideration.
The room was clean and comfortable, but had a strong smell of detergent. We really enjoyed the small pool, since Granada gets hot in times, and found the staff friendly and helpful. But after paying 65 US$ + taxes, we would have expected a good filling breakfast. Instead we had some fruits, 2 pieces of toastbread and coffee.

There is a choice of breakfast's for the price, either the eggs, gallo pinto, toast and coffee or the continental breakfast, fresh squeezed orange juice, and coffee and toast or you can order off the menu.

This person stayed with us in the off season and we gave her a room a $65 room for $45 a night, plus tax, I am confused why she wanted to write this review, we remember her and wanted to treat her as a valued guest. Best, Terry Leary

Casa San Fransico was perfect. I intended to say for only 3 days and stayed for a month! I loved it. Beautiful rooms with character, fabulous service and just an excellent feel. I love everyone at Casa San Francisco. Not expensive either rooms are between 45 and 70 US. Totally worth it.

Room Tip: The yellow one next to the pool downstairs is definitely the best room in the place!
