“Best hotel in Granada”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Excellent service, clean comfortable rooms, nice pool, good breakfast. All the positive reviews are correct. This 5 year old hotel is well-located for touring the Granada area. The reception staff were very good at recommending tours and restaurants, and arranged taxis for us, and they even speak some English. We would not stay anywhere else. I have no idea why the previous reviewer did not like this place, except you can't go to Nicaragua expecting to find Canadian or American style accommodations.

Room Tip: We liked our second floor location.

Our experience was less than positive and we have no idea why this place is rated so highly. As a treat to ourselves we stayed here on our way back through Granada thinking that by paying nearly double the price of the B&B we stayed in on our first time through town we would have a worthy experience. We were sorely disappointed.

The rooms are clean however they lack any character with stark white walls with nothing hanging on them. The only thing on the walls were a few painted on maple leaves which certainly evoke thoughts of Central America. The sheets were nice enough but the box springs were completely exposed giving the room a cheap feel.

When coming to or from the lobby the staff rarely looked up from their computers and never did they initiate a greeting unless I said it first. The same goes for breakfast as we were never greeted with a "Buenos Dias" unless I said something first. Finally, unripe pineapple in Nicaragua? Really?

If you are looking for a place to stay that's bland and without character at nearly twice the rate you need to spend then this is your hotel.

We were in Granada in Nov, 2011 and had the most wonderful experience at the Hotel Patio del Malinche. Excellent customer service, friendly, helpful and very accommodating. They handled our taxi from the airport in Managua to Granada, we arrived late at night, thirsty and hot, tired and excited. They allowed us to have a swim in the pool even though it was late ( we promised to not disturb the sleeping guests) and we had nice cold cerveza to wet our pallets. We were looking at property in Granada and the owners were most helpful with appreciated knowledge and advise. The hotel is very clean, warm and inviting. The architecture of the grand colonial home was superb. When it was time to leave we asked to have a wake up call at 4 am and a taxi to the airport for 4:45. The wake call was right on 4 am and a hearty sandwich and coffee was waiting for us. The night man phoned to ensure the taxi was on time and it was. Going the extra mile and providing us a breakfast at that hour of the morning was going beyond customer service. The owners and their staff really care about their customers. I have recommended this hotel to everyone I know and we will most certainly stay at the Hotel Patio del Malinche again. Thanks!

Room Tip: we stayed on the main floor by the pool which suited us very much.

We stayed here three nights and loved it. The hotel is very beautiful and in the spirit of Nicaragua. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owners were wonderful and obviously tried very hard to give the customers the best experience. The rooms were exceptionaly clean and comfortable. The location is perfect. I can't believe there is a better place to stasy in Granada!

Room Tip: Room 16 is a wonderful upper corner room

We just returned from a 9 day trip to Nicaragua. We stayed 3 nights at Patio del Malinche and found it fit us just perfectly. Very clean and comfortable with beautiful gardens, a great breakfast and simply lovely accommodating staff. My husband needed to keep some medication refrigerated and staff member Luis was so helpful to him, providing refrigeration and going so far as to make sure the breakfast juices they made for him were sugar free every morning. I loved the peacefulness of this lovely restored colonial villa. I couldn't ask for anything more in a small hotel.

We stayed in Granada at the Patio Del Malinche for 2 nights. We chose this hotel because of the great reviews here and we were not disappointed.

The great:

- Customer service has been written about here and everyone is right on. All my questions were answered promptly via email before we booked - had a lot of great info on tours we could do, organizing transportation for us if we needed it etc. Jessica/Isuara at the front desk were always available to help. We had an early flight out and they arranged a taxi (great driver) to take us and even packed us a juice/sandwich.
- Location is a block away from the famous pedestrian street where you can find cafes, restaurants, shops. Finding the hotel was super easy with the directions we were given. The central plaza was only a few minutes away.
- The rooms - simply designed but you can tell that the decor was well thought out for functionality, comfort and style. Sitting out on the terrace on rocking chairs having an evening drink is a must. There's AC, safe in the room.
- Setting - the colonial style is beautiful, all rooms faced the pool and the hotel is a quiet lovely oasis. A bar and friendly bartender right by the pool for drinks.
- Breakfast, coffee, juice was included which was served promptly and you had a choice of 3 different types.

I highly recommend the Patio Del Malinche for anyone visiting Granada.

Room Tip: All rooms face the pool with the downstairs room steps from the pool. We preferred the upstairs room...

Just a note to say that Hotel Patio del Malinche was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and very clean - great pillows for a Nicaraguan hotel. The breakfast that is included in the stay was delicious. Super fresh fruit (and a lot of it) and good strong coffee...or eggs if you prefer.

The location was perfect. Just a few blocks from the Central Park so the noise of the park didn't reach the rooms, but it only took a couple minutes to walk there. It was also just a couple blocks away from the street with dozens of delicious restaurants.

When I go to Granada again, I'll stay in this hotel again. No complaints here!

Room Tip: I was upstairs and it was lovely.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
More than a place in the world, a house is a place in one's heart. El Patio del Malinche is more than just another hotel, it's a dream come true. Our interest to live in a different culture and to get to know new horizons took us to the ancient town of Granada. The sun-dried bricks of Granada's old walls and the hospitality of its people bewitched us. By restoring an old colonial house we relived a life of peace and serenity created by its inside patios full of history. We hope our guests will be able to revive and share with us the atmosphere of other times. We will be delighted to share our house, where life pours from every corner. ... more   less
