“Wonderful introduction to Nicaragua”
Reviewed 8 March 2010

We stayed for our first two nights in Nicaragua, and loved the experience. The hotel was beautiful, with inviting, comfortable courtyard areas (one with a pool) and prompt, friendly service. The rooms were quite large and very clean. The city itself was enchanting, and the hiking/exploration attractions in the area were wonderful as well.

Weekday breakfast in the small cafe at the front of the building was excellent, and on a less windy day the outside seating would have been even better. The weekend brunch in Salon Azul was not quite as nice, but perhaps that was because we were late to the table.

The only negative was the loud music in the front courtyard on Friday night, but it did not keep us awake. And the fact that free "national drinks" (Flor de Caña rum, macua, etc.) were available in the disco area helped to compensate.

The building is beautiful, old Spanish colonial style. The woodwork is deep and rich all throughout the interior and the furniture. The staff is wonderful and pleasant. It is located on a street that has some great restaurants and a certain night life that is electric and exciting.

However, on Friday nights they feel compelled to bring a band or other type of musical entertainment into the courtyard area. This is located in an area where the music can be heard in all of the rooms. The music is very loud with lots of percussion; it starts around 8 and ends sometime between 10 and 11. If you are inclined to go to bed early, or you just came in from a long trip and would like some rest, forget it. My other complaints are very minor, like a business center that consisted of an empty room and a broken computer, but this late night music was something that would keep me from returning to this hotel. This is my third time in Granada, and I will most likely return again, but I will not stay at Dario.

We had a room with a balcony overlooking the main street. There was a festival of some sort going on that night. The mariachi band sounded as if it was in our room. We moved the next 2 nights to the back in a quieter room. If you are there on a weekend be prepared for noise. It is across the street from the Irish Pub.
Other than that the hotel was fine.

Just spent 3 nights at Hotel Dario and we are really disappointed.. We booked the room with balcony because they told us it is a really nice room. The room itself was nice, but it was just too noisy. We heard our neighbor like he/she was standing in our room and all the noise from the street just below kept us awake for a long time and woke us up early morning.
After one night we changed to another room that was a lot more quiet and a lot smaller. We have been told that this room was cheaper so we stayed there for 2 more nights.
Before our last night, we asked for a wake-up call from the reception at 7am, because we got picked up at 8am.
We woke up at 7.30am because a cleaning-lady walks into our room by accident. At the reception they just laughed and said we said 9am.
Then, they charged us exactly the same price for the small room than for the big one! If I would have known that, I probably would have bought earplugs against the noise and stay in the bigger room.
It has just been one disappointment after all these good reviews and the staff was not friendly at all. We mostly felt like disturbung them when we had questions.

A very very nice place in the heart of Calle Calzada in Granada. Beautiful colonial style hotel with quite modern and elegant rooms. Attentive staff, always helpful to offer advice on booking excursions or what the town offers. Very beautiful courtyard terrace - a good place to while away a few quiet hours with some drinks. And check out the intricately carved woodwork on the bannisters leading to the 2nd floor -beautiful craftsmanship that adds to the colonial theme. The restaraunt is very good but actually the diner/coffee shop was my favorite for a quick and hearty breakfast and an endless cup of Nica coffee. Overall, a charming hotel in a charming town...

We stayed here for several days while doing day trip from Granada. There are a handful of nice hotels in Granada, (Plaza Colon, Hotel Alhambra, La Gran Fracia.) I found Hotel Dario to have the best location and very nice rooms. The location is on the main walking street with many restaurants to choose from. The rooms had aircon, tv with lots of english channels, new bathrooms with nice showers.

One note: the rooms on the front of the hotel, overlooking the street are the largest and nicest with great balconies - however, the street is pretty loud so I would ask for a room in the second courtyard unless you want to hang out on the balcony late night and keep the party going.

My husband and I had a GREAT TIME staying at Hotel Dario; between their excellent service, courteous personnel, food, ambience, etc., they made us feel like home!! Rooms are extremely clean and well kept on a daily basis.

We have stayed there several times and feel now as part of the Hotel Dario’s family.
We would recommend everybody and anybody that is looking for a joyful vacation as well as to relax. Just make your reservation and they will take care of it!!!

Best regards to all….
