There's a lot of construction going on at this hotel. My first room was in the middle of it so the noise woke me up by 7am. The front desk staff kept giving me the run-around but after 2 days put me in a new room that was at least quieter. Problems included construction noise, no water, no hot water, unhelpful staff, no cushions on chairs at pool and poorly designed rooms. However, the hotel has a good location and wonderful pool.

Stayed for two nights with a large group. Several people were placed in the section that was being renovated: no lights in the corridor at night so a flashlight was needed. Those rooms have not been finished yet, so no bed skirts, comforters, blankets, phones or alarm clocks. One of the renovation area rooms was infested with very large spiders and the ladies couldn't stay there: ended up bunking in with another couple when the front desk couldn't fix the problem or offer a different room. Breakfast buffet is good if you are an early riser. Pool and area are very beautiful. A/C was quiet and effective. Front desk staff were indifferent. Pizza at the hotel restaurant was a good deal. Well situated between harbor and central square. Jimmy Three Fingers restaurant across the street is a must!

This is one of those hotels that has a great website but fails to produce.

When I first arrived there was no water, they knew that on check-in but didn't tell us. Once the water was reconnected, a collegues room had no hot water, and didn't for two days. No refund, no free meal just a shrug of the shoulders. Oh, and every single guest had to take their own bags to the rooms.

What they fail to tell you is that at 5.30am the church bells across the road sound and wake the entire hotel. They repeat it at 6.00am to make sure you are awake. If the bells didn't wake you, they guy hosing down the paths at 5.30am, and then the windows will.

The bathroom is too small, the toilet leaked all night and the showers water pressure is all but nothing. A very disapointing experience over all.

It is too far from town, the rooms are too small for the price you pay, the service is non existent, it's just a waste of money - look elsewhere.

I apparently had the only room in the hotel with no hot water. Thinking that maybe thre was a problem with the plumbing I asked the front desk if they knew ROOM FIVE had no hot water. The response? "Yes, we know." No, sorry, no offer to change my room, no nothing! The next day at the cafeteria-style breakfast or our Costa Rican tour group (I was the only N. American), the server stared pointedly at me and asked the person next to me, "Is SHE part of this group?"

What I'm trying to say here is that if you are after good srvice, don't come here!!!! The staff is less than attentive (you could stand for several minutes at the front desk while they talk among themselves, waiting for them to nocie you) and certainly less than polite.

I stayed at the Hotel Granda for 10 days. The hotel room was very basic. It did have air conditioning and hot water. The lobby of the hotel was decorated nicely with fountains, art work and a piano. They also have a very nice swimming pool, wi-fi, and a restaurant.

One end of the street that the hotel is located on is Lake Nicaragua and the other end is a large square. There are many shops and restaurants located on this street. Most have both indoor and outdoor seating. At night there are dancers, musicians, etc. that will entertain you while you are eating outdoors but they are not shy about begging for food and money once they are done. We were constantly bombarded by beggars while we ate.

In the nearby town of Masaya there is a National Park featuring an active volcano. It costs $4.00 per person to get in but was well worth it. Also in Masaya is a market. It is set up for tourists so the prices may be a little higher but there are no beggars or unauthorized street vendors to bother you.

I was happy that I stayed at this hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly and I enjoyed cooling off at the pool.

We stayed for one night in the Hotel Granada after finding it in a guide book. The room looked fine, if a little dark but it had air-con and a fan so was cool enough which was the main thing we were looking for. However we didn't check behind the shower curtain and so didn't see the big dead cockroach that was lying in the shower, if we had we might have thought again. When coming back to our room after dinner another cockroach ran across the wall into the bathroom until I stamped on it.
Overall then, the hotel is reasonable value, the room was cool, the breakfast was ok but I wasn't so keen on the cockroaches. It's also a bit out of town and although the balcony has a nice view, the bar there wasn't open when we stayed. I would thing there's probably better hotels in town.
