Very, very pleasant stay! The staff were so friendly and helpfull, the room was nice and clean and the food was very good. The breakfast buffet was the best we ever had. No pancakes/bacon but it wasn't necessary because there were so many other delicious things to eat and drink. If you wanted there were a lot of healthy choices (porridge, fruit, vegetable..) but also white bread and cakes. Many organic juices and homemade jam.
We chose to have dinner at the hotel all 4 days and didn't regret it! A delicious 4 course meal for 20 euros. We really felt that the chef(s) had pride in what they serve. Every evening you could choose from 3 different starters and 3 different main courses - meat, fish and vegetarian.
A cosy bar where in the afternoon there is served a soup and bread / cheese.
The only small negative thing to mention is that the hotel is a bit worn down, but all in all a very cosy, nice and clean hotel.
We would love to return!

We don’t like wooden cottage style in mountain hotels and when our friends recommended to us this hotel, we were happy to try.
Miramonte is very smart repaired small hotel from ’60 on a perfect spot in Bad Gastein. Everything is cozy, nit and made for guests pleasure.
Special attention is given to food. There is a great variety of bio products and vegetarian dishes were very good. We had a half board which also includes a light lunch which is a very smart value for money addition.
Spa center is basic but cozy with good sauna and terrace with view. Also, I had very good massage here.
I especially liked free yoga classes and Andrea, yoga instructor is very, very good.
Hotel has a free shuttle for guests and whole stuff is young, pleasant and cooperative. I had experience with young stuff, especially in Austria, and, believe me, this people are well chosen.
Summary for Miramonte is that whole package is very good and deserves 4 stars. If you deselect and start giving attention for details, there is something missing here and there but overall impression s really very good.

The hotel has got a nice 60:s design with modern touch ups.

Room 111 was very spacious with a comfy bed and lots of wardrobes. Unfortunately there were a constantly disturbing sewage smell in the bath room that were not possible to air out.

The service is somewhat confused, as you might expect when hotel is staffed by youth working there only to be able to hit the slopes duing day time. Can be improved easily. Spanish guys were the best. The tall guy seemed to have an attitude that were quite annoying to us.

Breakfast very good with all items you expect (no bacon and scrambled eggs though). Dinner has lots to choose from. Tasty starters. Good mains (but variable quality) fish, meat, vegetarian to choose from. Tasty deserts...

The sauna and relax facilities are good and what you need after a day on skis.

Shuttle service worked very well every morning.

Summary: nice comfortable hotel for some relaxing days on skis. You get what you pay for.

Room Tip: 111 is large but has no view.

First of all the staff was fantastic, highly service minded. My partner had an accident the last day of our stay and had to have a surgery. I stayed for an extra day and there was no problem, I kept the same room and they only charged med for single person. They arranged a dinner after restaurant closing hours and they let me borrow they computer as I had to work for 2 hours. And in the morning they parked my car so I only needed to jump in it and drive a way. They took care of me - and Im grateful. Everyone was kind and attentive. As for the hotel, the view from the hotel is beautiful. You can sign up for pick up every morning and afternoon to ski lope. There is complimentary soup and five different kind of cakes in the afternoon. The room was nice, warm and clean. The bed was comfortable.

We stayed at Miramonte for 7 day´s and we strongly recommend this hotel. Nice clean rooms, with a lot of space and storage. We booked half board package and the food were really good and nice presented. The breakfast offers many different choices of food, a great start to active day skiing in the mountains. The staff were really nice and helpful, extra creed to the driver who took us the the lift system and picked us up in the afternoon, very nice and great service. The SPA is ok, the young girl who work there gave me one of the best massages ever :) There were also ability to get the ski boats dry and to storage the ski´s at the hotel lobby. The hotel is modern and has a extra touch, it was a really nice surprise and we are very happy with our stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay at Hotel Miramonte.

The hotel collects guests for free from the train station, and the bus driver helps you to carry and store your skis. On arrival, we had been upgraded to a Medium Panorama Double, which was a very comfortable room with a view of the valley.

Dinner in the hotel (half board) is lovely; the one night we did venture to a restaurant, we regretted not staying at the hotel because it was much better service and food. The waiters in particular were very friendly and helpful.

There is a free ski shuttle bus to the lifts and back which was always on time during our stay. There are also yoga lessons every day, included. We took advantage of this one evening and the instructor was excellent.

Overall, we had a great stay, loved skiing in Bad Gastein and would definitely go back.

You've heard that "the customer is king", and that "the customer is
always right". You may even believe in customer service.
If so, don't stay here.

It all started innocently enough, with a late decision on a week of skiing and thermal baths in Bad Gastein. Luck was with us, and we found space at the Hotel Miramonte, a charming-sounding spa hotel with breakfast, ski-shuttle, etc. We booked through www.gastein.com, and quickly received a confirmation of the dates and price. Lodging settled, we booked travel and the rest of our trip.

Some (3 days) days later, Hotel Miramonte sent us an e-mail saying, effectively, "Oops. We screwed up. Actually, we only have bigger and much (30%) more expensive room. Do you want that one?" When we pointed out that we had relied on their confirmation, they firs tried to blame www.gastein.com, then just wouldn't budge. Planet tickets already bought, and no more rooms in Bad Gastein available, we took the deal. However, since this to me seemed like a classic "bait and switch", we also complained to the Austrian Ministry of Finance office that oversees tourism.

Nothing happened until the Ministry got involved, at which point the
Miramonte suddenly found another room that was only 6% more expensive than the original. We took it. As part of the deal, we agreed to a free 4-course dinner (which turns out to be something they prepare for their half-board guests anyway, but ended up being nice) and a free train station pickup (which, you guessed it, turns out to something they offer for free to all guests).

Not a great start, but we figured the hotel itself might turn out to surprise us. It did, initially, by not picking us up at the airport.
After 20 minutes looking around in the cold winter air, we took a taxi. To give the hotel manager credit, he did instantly reimburse us.

The day we arrived, we learned that there was a sign-up sheet for the ski shuttle - you have to pick particular times. We did, signing up for the next day for trips to and from the lift station. We did this in conference with the receptionist, using the sign-up sheet sitting on the desk, and with full knowledge of the hotel.

The next day, after a long day of skiing, we waited for the shuttle in vain. In part, there was uncertainty because while most hotels have their own van or vans, Miramonte hires an unmarked taxi as necessary.
This makes it difficult to be certain, among the welter of vans, which of the unmarked ones might be Miramonte's. Turns out, none of them were. After a cold half hour waiting around, watching other hotels' shuttles come every few minutes (the Elizabeth Hof had two vans, one there at all times), we gave up and took a taxi. I give the manager credit for again reimbursing us without a fight. Turns out the hotel had given us the wrong day's shuttle schedule. How that happened, I don't know, but they certainly did not seem concerned. Nor did they seem to recognize that it's just a bad system.

That night, we decided to take advantage of the spa portion of the facilities. Because the various booklets are confusing, we checked with the front desk, and they confirmed that most of the spa facilities (thermal bath, sauna) were free, and we could use them anytime, with no booking. We changed into the comfy robes the hotel provides, gathered our little spa bag and towels, and headed off. No one there, but one thermal bath room invitingly open, with candles and flowers. We couldn't figure out how to close off the drain, so we went down to reception. In sum, "Oh, did you want to use the thermal bath? That'll be 19 EUR, and of course you have to book in advance." At that point, we gave up on the spa, and took a regular bath in the quite comfortable soaking tub (though ours looked as if a previous customer had danced in it in high heels) in our own room's bathroom.

___

What about the hotel itself? The wait staff are friendly. The view (not from our (+6%) room, which faced the uphill neighbour) is terrific, which is true of the entire town. Otherwise, the hotel is bland and a bit cheap seeming. Our (+6%) room was very large, but there was no benefit to the size. It had an entire enormous wall of closets, but a TV stuck awkwardly on a tripod in the middle of the room, and no fridge (important for late night snacks, since the restaurants are all a snowy walk away). The Miramonte's wifi internet was haphazard, but great when it worked (maybe 60% of the time).

The hotel provides a convenient ski room (enter from outside), with attached boot room (entry to hotel), which is nice. The ski room is a bit short, but that shouldn't be a problem in these days of shorter skis, except maybe for cross-country enthusiasts. The boot room is well provided with two large boot-drying racks, which are designed to blow dry air into your boots, leaving them dry (if not warm) the next day. "Designed" is the key term here. On day 2, we learned from still-damp boots that the mechanism might not actually work. On day 3, we learned by chance that one of the racks (the one on the left) does work (in mid-afternoon). On day 5, we learned that it only works sometimes. The racks have timers of some kind we couldn't figure out. How hard would it have been to have the night staff turn both racks on at 8 PM each night? Apparently too hard for the Miramonte.

In addition, the place is not for animal lovers. That is, pets are allowed, and there were some very nice dogs visiting, which we liked.
But the entire dining room is outfitted with sheepskin seat covers and
cowskin rugs. The room had a cowskin on the floor too - luckily there
was plenty of closet space to put the thing away in.

Bad Gastein - the old buildings look great, but it turns out the old center of town is largely abandoned. Without that, it's attractive from a distance, but the actual functioning part (e.g., the main street with the train station and lifts) is efficient with a serving of grim. On the plus side, the skiing is great (though one of the key lifts was not working for unspecified mechanical reasons on our first day)!

All in all - don't stay at the Miramonte - really don't. It's unreliable, and in no way special. You can do better. For that matter, we found Bad Gastein a bit disappointing. The skiing and amenities are better in Schladming, not far away.
