We (mum/dad/daughter 26/son24/girlfriend 24) flew from UK to Munich and then by train and taxi to Hapimag in BG for an Easter ski holiday 2010. We arrived late at night. It was raining hard and a bit eerie to arrive in the empty lobby where written instructions were left for us. Finding our apartment in one of the newer blocks along the colour coded corridors was a challenge. The apartment seemed a little stark at first but it soon began to feel homely.
The views down the valley next morning were exciting. The ski bus stops by the church which is a few minutes walk from the hotel. The bus (or taxi) journey to the station for the ski hire shops takes about 10 minutes. It is too far to walk and the roads are very steep and narrow in places. The historical glamour of BG has faded considerably but it remains interesting and quite dramatic but rather sad and neglected in places. Be sure to hire best quality ski boots. Unfortunately our daughter suffered much pain to her shins for several days after wearing poor quality boots for just a few hours. Snow conditions improved greatly during the week. We skied at every location in the valley and enjoyed them all. The spa in BG is exceptionally good. The pool and therapies at the hotel are also pleasing although often very busy and noisy. The ski buses are efficient although at least one of the the drivers needed urgent training in courtesy towards visitors. The bus/taxi journeys between the slopes take about 20 minutes. We spent quite a lot on taxis to/from the hotel during the week. Hapimag should operate a courtesy bus at this resort. The bars and restaurants in town were lively and good. We had a happy and fun week with good skiing. The early morning train (with breakfast) back to Munich via Salzburg through the snow covered valleys was a highlight not to be missed. This was an interesting experience which we enjoyed. It is certainly not a ski in-ski out holiday but probably more interesting as a result.
