Stayed here for just one night on a tour. As we arrived late and left early did not have a lot of opportunity to provide in depth review but our impresssions were - very large, well appointed room with two single beds, lots of hanging space and a warm, very well appointed bathroom. A small but convivial bar area and a standard breakfast - all you can eat 'continental style'. We received a friendly if not effusive welcome and the hotel was very modern and even a bit sterile - hence the title. Would stay here again but only as a base - the hotel does not lend itself to providing more than bed and bath.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

This may be the best hotel in Diksmuide and it is well situated for tours to the World War battlefields and it could be really good with a little TLC.
Our room had a sofa in it full of holes and not worthy of a junk shop. The bathroom was large but the shower soap dish was broken from the wall and just lying on the floor. The beds were comfortable but the light was inadequate for reading. With no pictures or decoration of any sort on the walls the room did not have that welcoming feel that you need in a hotel. We were at the back of the hotel so the room was quiet but many of our group were in the front and complained of the noise from the bars opposite in the early hours of the morning.
The bar area is adequate but very clinical and serves nothing but drink, some sort of snacks or sandwiches would have been very welcome.
As mentioned in an earlier review, the breakfast is just adequate with fresh rolls and cereals, but forget the so-called orange juice as it was the worst we have ever tasted in any hotel.

Just a average Best Western hotel in an ugly building near the center of Diksmuide. Nice spacious rooms. Lots of heavy traffic in the early morning.
Helpful manager.

Diksmuide has 2 things to offer: a strange peace monument that was politically adopted by the flamish nationalists, and the 4AD, a well established alternative music venue that moved from a pub to its own building a few years ago. We went for the 4AD ;-)
Everything in Diksmuide is a 3 minutes walk: Train station to Pax Hotel, Pax hotel to 4AD, momument, town square.

I chose the hotel because it looked like the most modern of the Diskmuide hotels.
Their public area (bar?) doesn't look very inviting. The terrace is on the main street - loud.
The hotel was mostly empty (except for us and the band), they are very busy on weekends though.
Wireless is not free but cheap (but tricky).

What I didn't like is that, although I paid the full price for a superior room (they have 2 categories) and asked for a very quiet room, they didn't give me a room that was higher up but had every guest on the same low floor. Maybe more convenient for their cleaning, but the traffic noise bothered me although the windows didn't even face the main street. If you like a quiet place, tricky!

The bathroom was very nice, modern, spacious, good walk in shower, very well lit. The room furniture is dated and in these lame colours you find everywhere (green and burgundy). Bed was ok.
The curtains look modern but they are velcro'd to the windows so you can't move them to look at the (nice) houses outside.

Skip the (free) breakfast - bad coffee and a tiny selection of bread and a cereal, cheap orange juice.

All in all it was ok.

I stayed at the Hotel Pax in May of 2005. This hotel has a great location for visiting the World War 1 memorial which is across the street. The hotel is within a five minute walk from several restaurants, bakeries, and a laundromat. It is twenty minutes drive to Flanders Field.
The hotel is very modern with good-sized rooms and very clean. However, there wasn't a restaurant, but breakfast was included. I wish we had more time to stay in Diksmuide because it has a fascinating history and more to see than we had time for. I recommend the Hotel Pax for quality and location.
