“Nothing fancy but good value for money”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Booked this hotel last minute and was not expecting much after some reviews! However, the room was exactly as described on the website. We booked a small room which was very clean, it provided basic amenities and is in a good location right on the sea front.

The car park is small but again that was pointed out to us.

The bathroom had a shower which was small so if you are a bit on the large side you may struggle to fit in, the shower was hot, soap etc is provided and there is a basic hair dryer supplied.

It is a lovely old building but the walls are thin so you can hear the toilet flushing in the next room!

We found the staff to be fine and the restaurant gave value for money providing tasty meals. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment on that.

We stayed for 3 nights and would return, it's nothing fancy but as I said, it was very clean and for what we paid we were satisfied.

This hotel is a little tired, both in appointment and in attitude. Friendly to a point, but beyond that, one gets the impression of non commitment one may get in other places that are really busy in times of great tourism.
Arromanches is busy. Associated with that is the fact that parking is at a premium. The hotel car park is of postage stamp size. If you get parked there, you may not get out! Look at parking in the side streets but that may not become available till later at night. If you want a good restaurant, there are not too many of them in the area, plenty of places catering for the quick bite.
I chose not to eat at the Normandy because of the attitude of the waiters I encountered, it seems to be a big problem if you offer a 100 Euro note! All in all, I will not go back to the Normandie.

We stayed there for 2 nights in the first weekend of August. The hotel is old and need renovation work but the location is excelent! Our room was small but clean with a little bathroom but also clean. Our room had 2 windows (one to the parking and another to city center) we can saw a little bit of the sea but there are room with a nice view to the sea. When you are in the room you can ear noise from the stairs, doors, and people walking. Our room air conditioning but for us was not necessary. They have a small parking never available but you have free parking nearby. We didn't had breakfast but i saw they have 3 breakfast menus. The staff seemed to me like friendly although we didn't had much contact with them only for Check in and Check out. It is a average hotel.

Our family stayed at the Hotel de Normandie about a month ago. The hotel was good value for the room but I would not want to stay longer than the 2 nights we stayed there. First of all, there is almost never parking available though parking can be found later in the evening at the public car park across the road. The restaurant looked quite expensive and so we ate dinner elsewhere (Arromanches would be like a typical seaside hotel on the restaurant front). Breakfast looked expensive and limited so we passed on that. The saving grace is the location, right across the road from the D Day museum.

Its only saving grace is its location. It needs a serious visit by the renovators. It is expensive for what you get and this trend extends to the bar and restaurant. Other cafes and restaurants in the vicinity offer much more competitive deals.

Visited this restaurant early evening, 7pm.
A fair variety of light meals on offer and we chose Omelettes.
These were served with chips and a small amount of salad.
Location of restaurant is good overlooking beach and sea with remains of Mulberry Harbour.
Average, nothing special, and expensive for the food we bought.
Omelettes were 12.90, small beer 3. and orange juice 3.50, all Euros,
Will not go there again.

If you want luxury hotel look elsewhere, this is an old hotel with lots of charm in a great position. We chose the room with sea view option, both room and bathroom were compact but very clean which is our main criteria, bed also comfortable. We have discovered France is a nation of stairs, we travel light so this was not a problem for us. Had breakfast at hotel which is good option, all the staff helpful.
Nice little village with number of eating options. Close to all things you want to visit.

Room Tip: If you are making the trip to see the D Day beaches you should spend the extra few Euro to see it fr...
