“Really good family hotel”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights The hotel is actually in Saint-Thibault, rather than is Saint-Satur, and on the banks of the Loire. Having said that, the views are not that fantastic as there is a restaurant across the street on the river bank which obscures the river from the ground floor rooms, and there is a modern concrete bridge over the Loire to the right as you look out. Having said that, the view from the first floor rooms is certainly better than looking across a street at another building opposite!

The rooms are excellent. We peeked into several in addition to our own (the doors were left open) and they were all quite large. The are well decorated and nicely furnished but have retained that indefinable but essential charm of an old building. We had bags of drawer and hanging space in lovely old furniture. The bathroom was modern, immaculately clean with a decent over-bath shower behind a glass screen. (Why do some hotels insist on using curtains? They show wear and age quickly and are much less effective at containing the water.)

The owners are friendly and courteous and gave us a fantastic recommendatoin for Pouilly Fume wine - Domaine Bonnard near Le Bouchot. There is free wi-fi, and you can borrow DVD's to play in your room if you want. (Nor sure why you would in such a beautiful area, but it's there if you want it....)

There is no restaurant, but there are 4 within 300 mtrs. We would recommend Auberge Thibault. Breakfast is the normal self-service with everything you could want, including excellent home-made confitures.

There is some limited secure parking to the rear at a reasonable €5 per night, but plenty free parking to the front of the hotel as well.(We had over 30 cases of wine in the boot, hence the secure parking. . .)

Overall, a very good family hotel, with excellent owner-proprietors. We would certainly stay here again, and probably will as we are addicted to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume wines and love the whole area.

Room Tip: All rooms face the river, but you won't see it from those on the ground floor, but they are chea...

We spent 2 nights in this wonderful hotel, beautifully decorated and furnished and impeccably clean. Our brightly coloured "Les Indes" room looked out over the river and really made us feel we were in a special place. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to help us have a great time. The wine producers the owner suggested we visit were really good - we learned a lot of interesting information. The buffet breakfast was very nice and the home-made jams were excellent - try the rhubarb and apple and the orange. Even the dog Elliott was courteous and friendly...and also very obedient.
We wimped out of the cycle ride along the well-marked Loire cycle track but did enjoy some lovely walks through the vineyards and nature reserve in neighbouring Pouilly. Although tempted to dine at the Ship restaurant next door to the hotel, we ventured up into Sancerre and ate at the Taverne du Connetable in the main square both evenings : exellent food, wine and ambiance

Room Tip: Les Indes was great but all the others we saw looked fabulous aswell - all totally original in decor...

A lovely old style provincial hotel in a quiet location on the banks of the Loire. We stayed for three nights in a river view room. The Hotel combines the character and charm of a family hotel with some modern twists. it is an ideal base for exploring one of the wilder sections of the Loire and the vinyards of Sancerre and Pouilly. The Hotel does not have or need a restaurant - the village has a number of excellent restauarants to choose from all within a very short walk. We got no further than than the Restaurant Le Bord de Loire which is immediately opposite the Hotel on the River Bank - excellent.

Room Tip: Choose a river view room.

all very nice superficially but the most awful proprietors. I went out in the morning to take my dog out came back to find the couple, man and very large woman in my room rummaging through everything. Obviously they had expected me to be out longer. An altercation ensued, the husband assaulted me, refused to call the police , prevented me from leaving the hotel by blocking the door and assaulting me. He was reported to the police. However French law permits them to enter your room if you are not in it! Beware. I also found cash missing from my wallet.Definitely not as nice as they seem. Rooms are attractive, but thin walls, I was woken by their telephone. Their resident retriever type dog attacked my much smaller dog on two ocassions. Dogs pay 15 euros a night.! Very unpleasant, I left without even brushing my teeth. AWFUL besides a long way from Sancerre with very irregular bus service

Room Tip: Not on the ground floor

It seems to us very important to answer to this comments because what happened this day is very serious. The customer had come in March, 2013 with her dog which had caused damages at the bedding. When this customer came back in October, 2013 with her dog too, we made her the recommendations of use and exactly that dogs do not have to go up on the bed. After the breakfast, the customer went out and according to the law which authorizes us to do that, the Manager in the presence of an element of the staff verified the state of the room and noticed a real disaster: the dog slept in the bed which was bloodstained, the second cover was on the ground and soiled by dog’s hairs and by blood, the sink of the bathroom contained croquettes of the dog and the tin of the dog was put at the feet of the bed on bath towels. We wanted to make notice the damages to the customer who refused, roared in the establishment and left the hotel without paying and by pushing the staff. We filed a complaint at the gendarmerie who came on the spot, noticed the damages in the room and took photos. The customer was convened by the police as accused and was asked to pay his invoice. Then, we removed our complaint. As regards the disappearance of money of the customer, it is not mentioned on the police report of the customer. On the other hand, our dog is a very kind Labrador, which only thinks playing and which is adored by our customers. We make our best to satisfy our clients and to offer them the best possible service as give evidence of our comments on internet or on our visitors' book. It is the first time that we lived such a bad experience with a customer and hope that it will never reproduce.

Beautiful hotel right next to the river Loire. A very nice old building with a lot of charm and very pleasant  rooms all with different themes. Our room,( THE COLONIALE) was very large and spotlessly clean with  a nice comfortable bed. Good wifi connection was also a plus for us.
We especially enjoyed the great breakfast with wonderful breads and croissants prepared on site . Guests should really taste de home made jams, thank you Isabelle!  Your hospitality was amazing , keep up the wonderful work !

There  is also a good restaurant across the street called the SHIP , there,  one can taste some very good , delightful Sancerre wines. This hotel is the place to be when traveling in the area. We will definitely be back.

Perfectly situated near to Sancerre and right by the river Loire, this hotel offers everything you need. We only stayed for one night, stopping over on our way down to the south of France and we took the Africaine room because we also had our dog with us - it was perfect for our family, conveniently on the ground floor for taking our dog in and out and easy for getting our bags in from the car too. Our host was friendly, attentive and helpful and we felt very welcome throughout our stay.

The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was a good start to the day. This is a perfect spot for exploring the area or as a stopover if, like us, you're just passing through. We'll definitely return to this lovely little village and to this welcoming hotel.

Room Tip: Ground floor Africaine is perfect if you have children and/or a pet - very convenent for getting in...

we only stayed one night but do wish we had more time to spend here. A very cozy place with the rooms that bear names of famous kings and other historical persons instead of dull numbers. The rooms are very spatcious and comfortable. The overall design and the furniture make the room a bit of a museum - a nice, well kept one.
Windows overlooking Loire and a (not too busy) bridge .
The hotel keeper is an example of charm and hospitality.
