“La Maison Tranquille - a lovely cottage & very aptly named”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

The Cottage is well appointed & restored with care. The photos on the living room wall show that a lot of hard work has been done, both inside & outside, to get it to the current lovely condition. We found it quite spacious, well equipped & peaceful.
The position as the last cottage on the lane meant only the odd tractor passing.
A visit to Apremont-sur-Allier, 3 miles up the road, to see the village, Chateau & Parc Floral, is well worth the time. There are also quite a few chateaux in the area, the one at Saggone , 20 minutes drive, being a good example of those to see.
The local key holder, Martine, was very friendly & helpful on our arrival, showing us around & explaining how things worked.
We would certainly return to the cottage next time we are in the area.

“Totally relaxing, perfectly located.”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Some quick observations and experiences:

* With a car, it's ideally located for a comfortable, peaceful break.
* The cottage is even prettier than the pictures suggest. Well stocked kitchen, large living area, extremely comfortable king-size bed.
* Gardens overlook gentle French countryside.
* Plenty of shade available under a huge cherry tree or you could sunbathe all day comfortably. For me, the deep warmth of the late afternoon August sunshine after a day out was wonderful.
* Excellent visits to Bourges (the Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site), Nevers, Sancerre (50mins), sunbathing by / paddling in the river at La Bec, Apremont sur Allier is incredible. Don't miss the enormous market in Sancoins. Nearest shop is 10 mins by car so you'll need to bring supplies with you (unless the nearby shop repoens).
* I quite fancy coming back in the winter to fire up the wood burning stove in the living room! It'd be VERY cosy.

If you want a balance between exploring and relaxing, definitely consider this lovely little property. Around 5:30 from Calais.

Thank you Dorothy for making us very welcome.

I am delighted that you found the cottage and the region delightful: we do too! And each season has its own delights. The woodburning stove is one of them in the autumn thro to spring season. A good book in hand or some wonderful music playing, curled up on the sofa with the stove burning brightly is one of life's great pleasures! I hope that you make that rendezvous with the stove!
We are bringing over a music laden iPod to leave for our guests pleasure this autumn.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.

“La Maison Tranquille: beautiful house in beautiful garden.”
Reviewed 16 September 2013 for a stay in June 2013

La Maison Tranquille is a wonderful old house, renovated with loving care. It is furnished and equipped to the highest standard. We had a really great, peaceful stay. The garden in particular is a delight, with a profusion of roses, lavender, rosemary. It is set in lovely countryside, with the forested banks of the River Allier at Aprenon particularly beautiful.
The local caretaker, Martine, was very friendly and most helpful.

Thanks so much Brid and Eddie for your review. I am so pleased that you chose La Maison Tranquille and that you found it met your expectations. I do try extremely hard to make the cottage comfortable and relaxing: we all need this in these busy times. And a big thank you for looking after the garden whilst you were there! So appreciated!

“Maison Tranquille lived up to its name for us.”
Reviewed 9 October 2012 for a stay in September 2012

After touring northern France for 2 hectic weeks we arrived at Maison Tranquille and fell under its spell. Great location for seeing the sights of Sancerre vineards, Sancoins busy market, Nevers and Autun's ancient cathedrals. Great local food and friendly neighbors, especially the cows. Well appointed and comfortable.

“A beautiful well equipped home in the peace of the deepest countryside.”

La Maison Tranquille is a beautiful cottage situated deep in the Cher countryside. The hamlet of Neuvey Le Barrois is quiet and peaceful, but close to the bustling towns of Nevers and Sancoin for the markets and shops. We enjoyed biking through the gentle hills to Apremont (one of the Beautiful Villages of France), swimming in the River Allier, visiting Bourges with its wonderful World Heritage Cathedral and medieval quarter. Most of all we enjoyed the privacy of the well provisioned house, the kindness of the housekeeper and the natural beauty of the area. A wonderful holiday location.
