No a "must go" but if you like nice view and have time ... why not ?.... We were interested to go there to have an idea about how they organize the activity from the bridge. (go bungee jumping). We finally found that this is a nice spot. It is 5 minutes driving from Luz St Sauveur.

This is very good in the summer as they have bungy jumping off the bridge into the ravine of 90 meters. Also a path down to the river, But beware of bad weather further up the valley as a wall of water can appear from nowhere if a thunder storm happens at Gaverne. Small snack bar just across the road from the bridge.

Luz-St-Saveur is a commune in South West France and it is a gateway to the Pyrenees National Park and some of the most spectacular sights ion the Pyrenees. Cycling fans are familiar with the nearby Col du Tourmalet famed as one of the most gruelling stages in the Tour de France. A renowned therapeutic spa town St Saveur has attracted many famous clients including Victor Hugo. In July 1859 Napoleon 111 and the Empress Eugenie, accustomed to thermal cures, arrived. They stayed for twenty three days. During their stay the Emperor decide to commission a vast programme of public works including this bridge which is 65m high and is at an altitude of 761m. The construction of this lovely bridge ensured that the Valley of Gavernie was made accessable to the local farming community and to tourists. The Emperors column is quite impressive and the views of the surrounding countryside are stunning. Certainly a must visit site for anybody touring the area.
