This pretty hotel, run by Regis and Rita, absolutely hit the spot for us. It was spotlessly clean, close to the pretty harbour, market and shops and provided a simple and delicious breakfast each morning.
Regis and Rita looked after us and our four friends, and went out of their way to help find bikes and recommend good restaurants.

Room Tip: The corner rooms provide a bit more privacy.

Stayed here in summer 2013
Nice location - easy stroll to shops, restaurants and beach - a lovely town.
Room was very clean but on the small side and more like self catering style than a hotel except you have no catering facilities ! There was a good bathroom.
We had a ground floor room, with a small terrace which has a table plus 2 chairs. This was in a separate building to the reception & breakfast room....unfortunately you couldn't get to the terrace directly from the room which was a shame.
Although you can order tea, coffee , drinks and snacks you are not "allowed" to have these in the room - only on the terrace or in the main building - even on a day when there was heavy rain and a thunderstorm we couldn't have a coffee in the room.......disappointing

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a European road trip and had high expectations after reading the rave reviews.

The positives: excellent location in La Flotte with proximity to the port, restaurants and bars. Also discount vouchers to use for bike hire - essential mode of transport to explore this magical place.
The general cleanliness throughout was good and a well presented breakfast although they need to consider an alternative healthy option.
Good sized bright bathroom and great pressure for the shower.

The negatives: requested a quiet location, large bed with separate ensuite and therefore booked a 'superior' room. The cost was approx 140 euros per night with an additional optional charge of 12 euros p.p.for breakfast. The room was so small with the super king size bed that it was challenging for 2 people to be in the room at the same time! Also there was the inevitable "loo in the cupboard" right in the corner of the bedroom next to the entrance door and yet the ensuite was surely large enough to fit a loo? There were no bedside tables just 2 chairs which served no purpose in such a tiny room and no headboard just a fitted shelf along the wall. The noise from an extract fan was really annoying and as it was vey windy during our stay, shutters were insecure and banged in the night!!
We did not find the owners particularly warm or friendly and I feel strongly that the 2 cats and their dog should be kept out of the public areas in particular the breakfast room.

This is what we would call a motel but very pleasant with it. Car outside the door and a quite large room which was clean and bright with some nice touches. Outside a table where we could sit and enjoy a glass of wine while talking to the friendly cat. The lovely little port of La Flotte is just a walk down the gentle hill and you can take in the village ambiance on the way down or back. There are reasonable restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour so you can have a good night out and walk home. The market was on while we there which provided entertainment, shopping and lunch and wine to take back to our little table with the resident feline. Not too far to the bigger and smarter Saint-Martin-de-Ré and the rest of the Île de Ré, but La Flotte felt more of a small fishing village and La Galiote fitted in well. We didn’t have breakfast – we rarely do – but our interface with the owners and staff was pleasant and helpful. A good base to explore the fascinating Île de Ré.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel La Galiote this month for three nights.
The owners are charming and really helpful. The hotel is in such a perfect location. Right next to the local bike rental shop, a few feet from all the cafés, restaurants and ice cream!!!
Rooms were spotless and large.
And the petit dejeuner was delicious.
We would stay there again I. A heartbeat.

Recovering rom illness my wife and I took the overnight ferry Portsmouth - St Malo ( Commodore cabins are strongly recommended even if you have to pay a little extra. The pleasure of breakfast in bed as you approach St Malo is worth it). Isle de Re, sometimes called Richmond Sur Mer during high summer, is delightful, much larger than we expected with busy traffic weaving its way in between the multitude of bicycles - the principal means of transport

La Galiote is not so much a hotel but a very high class B & B. It only carries the prefix of " Hotel" as the French authorities deem it to be such as it has more than 5 bedrooms. Although a simple cold meal is available on request . it does not have a restaurant but compensates by having a car park - a considerable benefit if to those like us with a car.. Incidentally the name ' La Galiote ' comes from a Dutch 17th / 18th C boat.
We booked a ' superieur' room for 5 nights- tiled floor, large and light with shower and a screened loo. Clean sheets and towels every day ( and fresh cakes of soap!). The young owner and his even younger wife could not have ben be more helpful in recommending places on the island to visit, restaurants - even the bus service to La Rochelle - the bus stop is at the end of the road ( 10 euros return for the two of us and well worth the visit)
In October the attractions are limited. For example the much vaunted bird sanctuary Reserve Naturelle de Lilleau des Niges is closed during October; the Ecomusee du Marais Salant consisted of a portacabin information centre and a tour guide explaining the intricacies of salt production ( en francais which tested A level French somewhat). The phare at Baleinese from the top of which we were told that the panorama would be spectacular, was fortunately fog bound the day we were there - a merciful relief avoiding climbing 257 steps to the top.

Food and service in the recommended restaurants were mixed- it was after all the fag end of the season. In La Flotte La Nautic was good, L'Ecailler was not. Le Coin du Goinfre ( it may have changed its name to Endroit du Gonfleur) was recommended but did not serve food until after 7.30 p.m. The O de Mer bistro in Ars en Re was highly recommended but was shut early October but would reopen in mid October. The highlight was to Sophie and Jacky Sury's delightful ramshackle cabine in Le Vert Clos, St Martin de Re overlooking the bay to eat natural oysters - superb.
A thoroughly enjoyable holiday. They don't know it yet but we're sending the family to the island next year

Room Tip: For more than a one night stay Select a ' superieure' room - it's worth it

I selected this hotel after reading very positive reviews from previous guests. The most outstanding feature of La Galiote is certainly its cleanliess. The hotel and rooms looked as if they had just been freshly decorated. The rooms were spotless, but small - we took a standard room, and the shower room was tiny, but adequate, although it did have a powerful shower. We chose not to eat in and so I cannot comment on the breakfast, or the service of staff. The reception area tended to be closed as we were coming and going so we had very little interaction with staff, other than the initial check in.

Absolutely no complaints about the hotel, but in my opinion, nothing to rave about.
