We stayed her four nights last year and were happy to spend another few days here this July. The motel is situated about ten minutes walk outside the town of La Cotiniere on a bluff above the beach, which is about 100 meters away. The rooms are well maintained, the beds good and the setting extremely nice. The only drawback is that the rooms can get quite warm - they're not air conditioned, and as there is only a small window in front and no way to get a current of air, we bring our own fan! That's the only reason that I gave the room an average rather than very good rating.

It's always quiet here at night and restful during the day, with a very nice swimming pool - heated but not overly so. Breakfast is included in the price and is a typical continental style affair.

All of the staff, from reception to the grounds keeper, are very welcoming.

Very good motel lived up to its description in its adverts, far ranging unspoilt sea views, nice pool with ample loungers and surrounds, good French type breakfast with the ability to have it delivered to the small terrace on the front of each unit, plenty of parking, all in all excellent.

Only minus no tea/coffee facilities either in room or in motel .

The ile d'oleron is more of a camping area, but this motel is perfect. The accommodation is very clean, spacious and quite basic- apart from the huge sliding patio doors that open out towards the sea. At night, you can sit on your private verandah and watch the fishing boats leaving La Cotiniere port. During the day, you can enjoy the clean swimming pool or play tennis on the ancient tennis court. There's a table tennis room, too. It's a 15 minute stroll into the port which attracts lots of holidaymakers to its many restaurants specialising in fish and seafood. Many of the rooms overlook the dunes leading onto the beach, and there are large barbeques for communal use. We enjoyed several meals in, using food straight from the markets. The motel provides for babies and also has inter communicating rooms. We've been three times over the years and look forward to another stay there.

The Motel Ile de Lumiere gets just about everything right: beautiful location, quiet, clean, friendly, excellent beds, small frig, parking, nice pool.

If there was one thing that we could have used, it would be A/C. With temperatures in the 30's C. during the day and warm nights, it can get a bit uncomfortable to sleep. We asked for and got a fan that was quiet and worked well, so it wasn't the end of the world. However, if one is there on hotter days it could be a problem if you're not cool with heat.

We spent 4 wonderful, relaxing days here in late July. Every guest seems to appreciate the idea that this place is a haven of calm and respects the atmosphere. While it's definitely suitable for familes with kids in these bungalow type accomodations, once evening comes around, everything returns to a lovely, peaceful setting.

The motel is situated about a 8 - 10 minute walk outside La Cotiniere where you'll find plenty of little stores and many restaurants (including our favorite, La Pigouille - see our review for restaurants.)

Oh, continental breakfast is included in most room prices, however, it must be said that it's pretty ordinary. Coffee is good, though, and so is seconds if you'd like another pot.

Incidentally, there is a small exercise room and a sauna (at extra cost.)

Room Tip: I think they're all nice from what we've seen. It's just a question of whether or not you want a sea view and how much you want to spend. Also, you might want to avoid rooms on the sunny south side, as they'll be warmer at night.

Finding accomadation for four single adults is not easy for a one night stay anywhere so this place was chosen by a process of eliminination which was lucky for our party as this motel ticks many boxes : clean , right on the beach ,parking , near the town but not in it , heated pool , breakfast included , good value , free wifi , family rooms , tennis court , bikes available ,books to borrow, bbq grills etc ...

A few negatives : breakfast mediocre ,in high season could feel crowded, rooms abit old,...

All in all a great place for a few days beaching it island style ...
