“Good choice for St Martin”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We looked for a nice place to stay on the Ile de Re and were surprised by the costs! This hotel is considered "budget" - but we don't think really it is that cheap.

We did however opt for an upper floor room for the lovely views of the sea (there is no lift so the bag transfer up and down was sporty!). The room was cosy but nicely decorated. The bathroom was very compact - but a separate WC is always a bonus!

There is no restaurant in the hotel, and breakfast is optional. Staff were very friendly. Well placed in the lovely St Martin - bike rental shops and restaurants and shops all very close by. We stayed three nights and did not move the car once from the free public parking a few hundred meters away (you pay to park in front of the hotel during the day).

And .. our little dog was happy there too!

Room Tip: Splash out for a room on the 2nd floor!

This was our second stay here. It's such a dear little hotel .wonderfully situated .
We had a downstairs room as we had loads of luggage and wanted to empty the car .we had room 7 right at the end of the corridor ,nice and quiet and still with a sea view !
We had our own pillows with us thank goodness .
Lots of hot water
Can't wait to stay again

Room Tip: Room 7 is week sited with great lower floor views

We spent a couple of nights here and found it well located, comfortable, and friendly staff. Best rooms are on the upper floors - but no lift! They also pointed us to a very good restaurant literally just round the corner - Le Cote du Jardin, which we used twice and were very happy with.

Situated overlooking a harbour entrance and with great views out to sea this is a great place to spend a few days. The hotel has retained a traditional frontage but the rooms are more modern and whilst they are a little 'cabin like' and not very big they are very nice, very clean and have those great sea views, especially from the upper floors. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the reception and breakfast area are small but well furnished with interesting figurines giving it touch of class. They do not do lunch or evening meal but there are numerous restaurants very close by.

Room Tip: Pay for the upper floors, it is worth it.

Just back from a 4 night stay in this well located hotel in St. Martin de Re. The staff in this hotel are superb. From the moment we contacted them by email, they responded quickly and with great English. The couldn't do enough for us during our stay.
The hotel has a great location. A couple of minutes walk from the centre and also from the bus stop where the No. 3 bus stops. This bus will take you to and from La Rochelle and onwards throughout the island. The cost on the bus is €4.80 to and from La Rochelle and €1 for local trips throughout the island.
Our room was on the first floor. It was nicely decorated. Large bed. The bathroom was small. It had a small bath but with a good detachable shower if you needed to wash your hair. The shower unit had an annoying habit of hopping from shower mode to bath mode while using it. There was a glass sink that I didn't like. Plenty of hot water. Decent shampoo and body lotions replenished daily. Good towels. Everything spotlessly clean. The toilet was in a separate tiny room. Needs a bit of updating here. The lighting in the room was the spotlight type rather than subdued or soft. Hot and bright.
There is no air conditioning in your room. This was badly missed as the room became very hot during our stay. There is a window that you can fully open but when we opened the window during the night just a little to let some air in we also let in the local mosquito population that feasted on us. I had 6 bad bites and my wife had 4 even worse bites. We were told by reception that we could have asked for some mossie repellant plug ins...alas too late for us.
The breakfast is good here and worth it for €10. It did become a bit repetitive however. It is not a buffet style but rather served to you in your individual little basket. The cost of the breakfast was included in 3 of our 4 night stay but not the 4th for some strange reason. A breakfast up the town costs €7.80 and definitely not as good as the hotels. The cost of our room was €125 per night for the first floor. You pay less on the ground floor and more on the third floor.
There is no real lounge area for guests to relax in. You can sit on the tables and chairs that double up as the breakfast tables and chairs.
If this hotel had air conditioning I would definitely be back or out of season when it was a lot cooler.

Room Tip: If you are a magnet for mosquitoes do not open your bedroom window at night if there has been recent...

Our first time on the Island .. We chose this hotel for its proximity to the restaurants and harbour at St Martin... All the Staff here are so ... So helpful, courteous and happy! They could not have done more to make us feel welcome and at home A fantastic room.. Beautiful views over the sea...and just around the corner... Literally! St Martin...although we stayed out of season there were still enough choice of restaurants open... A wonderful place to visit you just can't help but relax... We intend to return to Re...and hopefully will be able to stay at this lovely hotel again....Thank you!

Optimal place to stay in Saint Martin de Re. Simple rooms with all the necessities and a good breakfast. We stay at second floor with a view of the ocean. We would recommend this place if your path goes by Ile de Ré.
