“Great budget accomodation in excellent location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed here (booked via Thomson/Crystal) over New Year... it was probably the most expensive time to travel but we really wanted to go as had friends staying there too! We were worried about the location but it's an easy walk in to central Mottaret down stairs or the gondla runs until 7.30pm, quite a lot of stairs to walk back, but if you can ski/board you have the energy to tackle this too.

Didn't like all the dog poo everywhere, but that's common in a lot of french residences. Getting into Meribel was easy as free bus runs until midnight so could still take advantage of the great Meribel Apres and bus it home after.

Taxi back from Meribel was circa €35 - ok if you can fill a cab!

Apartment was adequate - we had a studio for 4 for just 2 so plenty of room, if 4 would have been tight for personal space! Great ski in ski out location and easy to access pretty much all of the 3 valleys, I would certainly come back again!

On check out we elected to clean our own room, they provide mop, dustpan and brush, hoover so just needed to buy some antibac wipes, cloth and soap.

Check out more pics from my holiday on my blog "Debbie Does A Blog" search for the Debbie Does Meribel blog posts.

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for the 4 person studio for a couple as a comfortable option!

Great location right by the pistes and lifts. Good restaurants and bars on site and free bus runs until midnight. Good ski hire shops. Appartment tight for five people but we managed and loads of hot water. Would certainly use again

overall there is nothing good we can say about this accomodation other than its excellent location. upon arrival check in was awful long queues and the neilson rep did not help us with this.once we had finally checked in the room was very small and cramped for 3 adults. the carpet wasnt clean, all bits on the floor, clearly had not been hoovered, and the bedding which you collect your self from a dirty basement did not seem clean due to seeing stains on the sheets which was very off puting. no staff around to speak to, even when you did speak to someone they couldnt speak english and were unhelpful. probably best to stay in meribel, yes it is more expensive but we were told there is affordable accomodtion there. small supermarket for your basics was handy. overall we had a wonderful time skiing, but you dont want your trip ruined by staying in this poor accomodation.

Just back from a week there. Sure it is tired and if a coach load comes in (or several in our case) you could be a hour in a queue (get in the line quickly, while someone from your party minds the gear), but the rooms are a fair size and clean enough if the previous party have not messed it up too much. Inside the hotel there is a supermarket, ski shops, a bar and a fairly nice restaurant. Backs onto a ski run, and is next to a cable car down to the main ski area. Has a bus that runs until midnight into Meribel. What is not to like, especially if you get it for a decent price (we paid £400 each, for 3 blokes).

Room Tip: Always carry a bus timetable. The hotel is at the top of a long steep slope, so you don't want t...

Just returned from a week's stay and blown away by the location of these apartments - ski in, ski out as right on the slopes (a green run down to Mottaret right outside the ski school). For a family of five the apartment was absolutely fine - 3 kids in the bedroom and adults sleeping in the living room. Kitchen facilities more than adequate - two ring hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge and dishwasher, so we ate well. The supermarket on site is small but adequately stocked, maybe pricier than others, but very convenient and did us just fine. Underfloor heating very warm and plentiful hot water. Maybe not the place if it's après ski you're after, but absolutely fantastic location for the slopes, especially with kids (avoiding the schlep to the slopes with ski boots etc). Cheap and cheerful. Will definitely return.

Just got home from a holiday at this resort with 3 friends, was staying in an apartment for 2-5 people.

If you're expecting a lot from the apartment, you will be disappointed! It is very basic and very cramped for 4 people. There is a sofa bed in the living area ('single' sofa with single pull out bed underneath) and then a separate room with a bunk bed and single bed beside it. There isn't much storage space, particularly for those staying in the living area - there are a few shelves and that's it. You are very much all living on top of one another, but if you're not bothered about accommodation then this place is fine. The apartment gets very cold so make use of the radiator! Whilst the condition of the apartment isn't very good, it is clean which is the main thing. Also a microwave and dishwasher which is helpful for quick cooking and cleaning!

The location of the apartment is great as it is on the slopes - a two minute walk across the apartment blocks and you're there.

There's not a lot on offer at night, unless you get the free (and frequent) bus to Meribel where there's a lot to do - bar crawls, live music etc. The buses back from Meribel stop at 11.45pm and a taxi back is about 30 Euros.

We didn't really need the hotel staff assistance during our stay so can't really comment on that. However, at the end of the holiday when checking out, we were asked if we had booked an appointment for our room to be checked - which we hadn't - the only place there is a sign letting you know you should do this is by reception (if you're skiing all day you are never there). You need to book this by Thursday before departure to ensure the return of your deposit. Otherwise, as we have had to do, you will receive an email letting you know if you have been charged or not.

There's a small supermarket on site, prices aren't bad there at all. We took as much food with us as possible (pasta, rice, risotto, sauces etc) so we didn't have to spend too much once there. There's a couple of small restaurants but didn't ever see them particularly busy! As previously mentioned, head to Meribel for more of a 'buzz'.

Great place to go for skiing, apartment does it's job!

The apartments at the Hameau may be a little tired and frayed at the edges but they remain some of the best placed in the whole of the Three Vallees. The Hameau is piste side so you can ski almost literally to and from your front door. It's not the Ritz but you're not paying Ritz prices. It is clean enough, warm, and adequately equipped for people who are essentially there to ski.

Mottaret is located at the head of the middle valley so access to most of the main ski areas is available within one lift. The entire ski domain is of course vast and you'd be going some to cover it all in one week.

If it's night life you're after Meribel might be a better bet. But if you're there to ski and are happy to eat, read and sleep in the evenings Mottaret takes a lot of beating. The Crocodile bistro in the Hameau complex offers a traditional looking apres ski atmosphere and some of the best happy hour prices around. Frank at Hameau Sports will cheerily provide you with top equipment at very reasonable prices. We're just back from the Hameau after our fifth visit in as many years. We know what to expect and we're not disappointed.

A shopping tip. If you're staying in the Hameau you'll likely be doing most of your own meal preparation on the basic kitchen facilities. If possible, buy all your groceries on the way up from Moutiers at the Super U on the main road. Much better prices than those available in the station itself where the market is rather captive. The Super U is where the chalet boys and girls go for their food.

Room Tip: The apartments facing the valley have a spectacular view over Meribel. The couloir apartments stare...
