I can't argue that the prrices are steep but compared to hotels down at Meribel Centre, you are getting a good deal when you throw food in.
We traveled with a 4 month old baby and his gran as child care and the staff were both welcoming and accomodating to the specific needs of a young child, even digging a kettle out for us to prepare powder milk.
If you are looking for proximity to Meribel's gap year kid night life then don't stay here but if you are looking for a hotel with easy access to the lifts to be the 1st up the hill then this is spot on. It's not a chic city hotel either but compared to some of the boxes we have stayed in in the alps, it was roomy enough with a south facing balcony which is a better attraction than the limited English offering on the TV.
Would we go back, probably especially as the hotel accomodation in Meribel that will accomodate you for a long weekend is limited.

Hotel Mont Vallon is a bit of a curious place. Its frontage is hidden in a kind of cul-de-sac just off the main lift area of Meribel Mottaret. Its a large rambling place with separate lift access to its two main areas of residence. The ambiance is solid traditional alpine......lots of wood, open fire, comfortable leisure areas. But absolutely nothing to make it sparkle in the way one might expect of a place with such huge prices. For example,2 people staying in a double room on half-board will pay a total of about £450 per night (Mar 2009) which makes for a pretty expensive week of ski-ing compared to what one could get in a chalet this year of recession. To cap it, you'll pay £10 - £15 for a drink at the bar after dinner, and they want £100 for a massage for your wife or yourself. To be fair, the rooms are comfortable if not outstanding, the staff are all very friendly, polite and accommodating and the breakfasts and evening meals perfectly adequate. The sports centre has a nice pool and there's also sauna and steam-room facilities. Access to ski-ing is nearly 'front-door' and Mottaret has much better 3 Valleys access than Meribel centre. So if money is no object, this is probably the best place to stay here. And don't forget....they'll take extra cash off you for your Wi-Fi access and parking is E.22 per night. Finally, you wont find a single English-speaking channel on the TV (excluding CNN) which is strange for a ski area predominated by British customers. One would hardly think it too much trouble for the management to add a couple.

Having stayed on three different occasions, Mont Vallon must be doing something to take my money, although the last occasion it was a £4k holiday for a weeks skiing, but we wanted for nothing.

Food is good (we stayed full board), but not outstanding, the service has always been good and the wines are expensive, but the environment is nice. Rooms, particularly slope side have fantastic views and were always clean and well looked after.

The best hotel by far in Mottaret, and one of a handful I’d recommend in the Meribel Valley.

in my 25 years of adult travel taking in some great designer hotels this one comes as a shock because of the following:
amateur and rude service
mid 90's decoration with a total lack of style
expensive bar and restuarant - glass of champage at £12
non-existant breakfast including no coffee some mornings!
bland, boring, old-hat french grub
shoddy, damaged furniture
cats poo on balcony
missed maid service
the worst hotel i have ever stayed in with a family suite at £450 night!
gordon ramsey would have a field day!
avoid at all costs

We have stayed here twice, since we visit friends who winter there. This is not a great hotel, but it is solid, unpretentious, with friendly if somewhat amateurish service. Good if you're travelling with your children, and just want a clean, reasonable place to lay your head during a ski trip. it's front door faces the chair lifts up the slopes. Spa is dated, and the food is okay. They do have a very fast internet line, good if you need to do business while you play.

Very nice hotel. The location, facilities, decor, food were all very good, my only complaint would be that the swimming pool was far too cold.
