I drove from Tennessee trying to get to Virginia beach,..but decided it was time to stop driving. I had no reservation in the Newport News area. I was a woman with a teenage daughter, so safety and location was a concern. We stopped at 7 hotels and various hotels sent us to 3 venues that were supposed to have a room, to no avail. 3 more stops and 27 phone calls later, we heard they might have a room here. After driving around for over an hour looking for a hotel, I got the last room here at the Magnuson. The room was an end room and was clean with a shower/tub combo. Bathroom was nice with granite counter and bed was very comfortable with extra pillows and blanket in the closet, fluffy comforter and a couch, coffee table, desk and chair. Small empty refrigerator and Flat screen tv as well. I was surprised because it was nearly $80 to $90 less than most of the other hotels we went to at $109 per night on a Friday. Decide to stay another night to explore the area and go to the beach for the day. The breakfast was sparing, but I'm not a bit eater, so the juice, coffee, breads/pastries and fruit was enough for me. Cereal was also there. Basically English Muffins, Bagels and packaged pastries was all there was, but I am a coffee and juice kinda girl in the morning, so I was ok. The best part was that it is near the Oyster Point area, which we went to twice and loved. Nice walking area around the water and very safe (friendly policeman patrolling on foot). Few good restaurants as well. We went to Salsa's Mexican Restaurant and loved it. Delicious Mexican Food,..our favorite! And we're picky about our Mexican food. Nice little shopping area there as well with several other eating Venue's available. The negative about the hotel is all of the people in the parking lot on a Friday and Saturday to go into the club or the restaurant which was rented out for a private party. Loud music blaring from the area didn't bother me. A little concerned about my car in the parking lot, but didn't have any problems for the 2 nights we were there. Great location; Satisfactory room, very meager continental breakfast, good front desk staff. Happy I got a room and didn't have to keep driving. All in all, with the price point and the noise from the nightclub and the location in mind, I would stay here again.
