“good stay”
Reviewed 26 August 2008

Was very impressed. The room was clean, and nicely furnished. The wireless internet was great, never had a problem, if you dont have a laptop, there's a computer and printer that you can use. The continental Breakfast was great, eggs, sausage, Belgian waffles, sausage biscuits and gravy, potatoes. Good coffee too. Pool was always quiet and service was friendly.

I have stayed at this Sleep Inn on numerous occasions; it's probably one of the nicest Sleep Inn's I've seen. Indoor pool, very nice furnishings, comfortable bed and pillows. All interior corridors. Internet service in the rooms is not wireless, but they usually have cables at the front desk for you to use. I've stayed here probably about 15 times and I can recall only once that I had to supply my own cable. Very convenient to restaurants and shopping; there's a large mall nearby and a fairly new upscale shopping area is close too. When in the area, this is my hotel of choice. Only time I don't use this Sleep Inn is during the summer when like all the hotels in the area, the rates go up.

Everything was as expected for this chain, except the internet connection. Wireless does not extend to all rooms, and the front desk has no patch cables for the in-room jack. Bring your own Cat 5 patch. Otherwise, 'net access was free.

We enjoyed our stay at Sleep Inn Oyster Point in Newport News. The hotel is very easy to reach off I-64, the main freeway through the Hampton Roads area. Being so close meant a lot of traffic noise as we pulled into the parking lot and also some in the lobby, but our room faced the rear of the building and was very quiet. A small area of woods surrounds the property and separates you from the interstate. There are no restaurants in the immediate area (its an office park), but many good choices and lots of shopping within a 5 minute drive. The property has nice grounds, a small fitness room, and a small indoor pool. There was a guest computer and coffee in the breakfast room off the lobby when we arrived, morning breakfast (just OK but free) was served there from 6-9 am. The hotel is fairly new, and our standard room with king size bed was clean and nice with a microwave and fridge. Front desk staff was OK. Pool area (across from the lobby) looked OK but lots of water pooled on the floor and wet towels left around. Also the only soft drink vending machine we could find which was in the lobby was not working properly. We paid $62 a night and I felt it was worth it. We were much more impressed though overall with Country Inn and Suites about 3 exits away on I-64 in Hampton. Staff there was extremely helpful and friendly and the hotel was super well kept and inviting. These hotels are about 10 minutes apart by interstate. Either one is a good choice for the Newport News area.
