“Great value with outstanding staff”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

This was out fourth time in Bacharach but first at the Gelber-Hof. Michael, our host, was extremely accommodating and made us feel very welcome. He just recently acquired the hotel and is going to great lengths to make it successful. The staff even kept the hotel bar open late for us on two occasions, even though we were the only customers in the bar. The rooms are decent sized and very clean. The shower had plenty of water pressure, which is not always a given in Europe. The breakfast was very nice. It consisted of the usual meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, but also fresh scrambled eggs. The location is a 5 min walk from both the train and ferry stop. The Wi-Fi is strong but only works in the lobby, bar, and breakfast room. The Gelber-Hof was the best value of any place we've stayed in Bacharach. We greatly enjoyed our 3 nights there and wouldn't think twice about staying there again.

Room Tip: The rooms come in all sizes so inspect a couple before choosing one.

I booked the hotel at the last minute and was happy to get two single rooms at a reasonable price. The hotel was clean and adequate. My room was a normal small single. It was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was decent. As noted in other reviews the hotel could be updated, but it was fine with nothing wrong. Just do not expect anything fancy. It is handy to the Rhine and trains with easy access to Frankfurt.

Honestly, such an amazing hotel. I was picked up at the station from Amad which was so lovely and got to my room and was so delighted! It was very well made up with 2 doona's to keep me warm and 2 lovely little chocolates on the bed as well as shampoo/conditioner and gel for the shower. The room has a tv and heaters also. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and so much on offer; i couldnt eat it all! Close to everything including the castle and the rhine cruise station. highly reccomend this hotel. All staff are so lovely, even when youre travelling on your own! :)

We stayed at the Gelber Hof for one night when we were travelling along the Rhine.
The look & feel of the hotel is very dated - dark furniture, 70s colours in the bathroom (brownish-greenish tiles), even the bed linen had a 70s decor, old TV set (no flat screen).

They offer free WiFi but you only have few spots in the hotel were you get a connection - more than once I stumbled upon an elderly couple from the US who sat on the floor on the corridor in order to check their emails with their netbooks. In our room we had no connection at all, as well as no mobile connection.

The hotel is located centrally in Bacharach which is a very nice old town. We could walk to all attractions. Unfortunately there are no parking slots next to the hotel so after unloading we had to drive our car out of town and park it next to the Rhine (a walk of 5-8 minutes in pouring rain).

Many of the rooms are facing the street, due to cobblestone it's quite noisy when cars go by but it was no heavy traffic at night.

The breakfast was average - a variety of cheese, salami, boiled egg, cereal, jam, bread but everything was pre-packed / -sliced so no fresh cheese or cold cuts.

The host was friendly and tried to fulfill all our needs (even though he did not understand everything we said due to his Eastern (?) origin).

If you are only looking for a clean, simple place to stay in Bacharach, you could stay here. If you are looking for some luxury or extra effort or style, you should stay somewhere else (even though I am not sure if Bacharach offers a stylish luxury hotel).

Room Tip: Room 30 is facing the street so it could get noisy at night (cobblestone street).

We stayed on this hotel for one night during our stay in Rhine Valley. The owner of the hotel was extremely nice and eager to cater to our every need. The style of the hotel is somewhat 70ish but it goes perfect with the town vibe. We were invited to hang out in the lounge with some wine before we left for dinner and they lit a fire for us which was really nice considering how cold it was that night. Breakfast was really nice. I would definitely stay here again if I am in the area.

I stayed overnight and found my room drab and small. The hotel is quite dated. The view from
my room was an old roof. Breakfast was good. Location was convenient to the center of Bacharach but I would suggest trying other hotels first.

Pleasant welcome, clean & tidy, really good value and an excellent breakfast. Perhaps not the most modern decor but value counts. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the sheets were clean. In life you get what you pay for & the hotel represents value. I spend two nights there & would go back.

Room Tip: Single traveller stayed in Room 35
