“Decent hotel on the beach”
Reviewed 5 September 2009

Location was definitely excellent. This hotel was recommended in the lonely planet guide as one of the best. We were very disappointed. The location IS excellent indeed and we had a room right on the water, but the receptionist/owner was not very nice. I suppose was hoping for an upper scale hotel. Breakfast was miserable! The first day we had breakfast at the hotel. We were charged €5 euros each and my husband didn't eat anything.
Rooms are very 1970s and haven't been updated since, except for hairdryers and a fridge.
But then again, we only paid €60 per night for sea-front accomodation! The hotel was full with people over 60 so it's nice and quiet.

I was traveling with my 10 year old daughter and 78 year old mother and the hotel was perfect for both. Right on the beach and our room overlooked the water. Perfect for when my mom had had enough sun for her to go back and relax while my daughter and I enjoyed the beautiful crystal clear sandy water. George picked us up at the dock when our ferry arrived and dropped us off for our departure. He was nice enough to make a stop at the bakery on our return trip so we could buy some breakfast for our ferry back to Pireaus. Yogurt with honey, eggs, fresh fruit, cereal, bread & butter & marmalade along with coffee and juice in the morning for breakfast. The rooms were immaculate and kept clean by their wonderful staff. We are looking forward to our return trip!

We were thrilled when we got to the Asteria. Right smack bang on Ag. Georgios beach which is perfect if you have young kids but otherwise is still gorgeous! Crystal clear, aquamarine water but is kneedeep til about 75 metres out. We got shown to our room after being picked up from the Port and couldn't believe it. We had a huge terrace outside out room for us, with tables and chairs...but the view, wow. A few trees in front of us, some lovely flowers then the sand and beach, completely uninterrupted - gorgeous! The room was great, fridge etc but I had to ask for a kettle. You are pretty much located at one end of the esplanade along the marina which is great. There is a fabulous little supermarket opposite for all you need and then its a lovely walk through the centre to all the restaurants and shops. We had very little to do with the staff here but we were very happy with the hotel.

Compared options through trip advisor and dealt direct with hotels for booking. This is is a delightful family run hotel that is located right on the beach. It is clean, a great location to the town, and very quiet area. We stayed 3 nights. Naxos is a wonderful island to explore with many great walks, and interior island places that are highly recommended to visit. The drive on the north side of the island is spectacular!

Hotel Asteria is located in a magical setting on Saint George beach at about 10-15 minutes walk distance from the port.
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in May 2004, no reservations made and got a very good price. 25 EURO a night for the corner unit facing the ocean. It is recommended to go in the low season. Can be overbooked in June, July and August. The wheather is really great in May. 25ºC during the day dropping at 15ºC at night. Naxos is a quiet island. We enjoyed this hotel to relax on the beach. There is a few restaurants from a walking distance. The room was very clean with a fantastic view.
There is a supermarket just across the street where you can buy anything. Breakfast was included with the room. Fresh food.
I recommend this hotel for all the backpack travellers out there !
Fantastic location and price.
Most rooms have 2 single beds. Double beds are hard to find..
Bon séjour !

Hotel Asteria exceeded our expectations, we had a double bed (The first on our honeymoon!!) and a fantastic balcony looking out to sea. The hotel is right next to the beach and has a beach bar where you can sip cocktails. Our room also had a fridge. All this for only 45 Euros a night, it was amazing (breakfast not included). Would highly recommend it. I think we were very lucky as we arrived in the last week before high season began and I guess the prices could rise after that but we loved it. There is also a supermarket right opposite where you can buy wine, beer, fruit etc.

We found the Asteria Hotel to be a nice hotel right on Ag Georgios beach. It was clean, the rooms were small, and the bathrooms a little dark and small. Our room had a real double bed (not 2 twins pushed together) and a balcony with a lovely view. The breakfast was adequate with coffee, breads, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, cereals, and yogurt with honey. It was walking distance to everything, about 8 minute walk to the port. There was a minimart across the street and car and scooter rentals in the next block. Umbrella and chaise rentals were 6 Euro a day, negotiable for half-day. MJH, VA
