“Easter on Andros”
Reviewed 26 May 2008

We stayed for 4 nights during Greek Easter. The hotel is on the outskirts of town; about a 3 minute drive. Complimentary raki, coffee maker, hair dryer in the room. Beautiful view from our good-sized room and full breakfast. Bar in the lobby. Great location, but watch out crossing the street from the parking lot!

There are times when you get exceptional service and a wonderful room so it's well worth taking the time out for a review. I would give this facility my recomendation for anyone looking for accomadation on Andros. Our room was airy , bright and clean with sweeping views across the valley and onto that sunkissed sea. It's a short walk into town so its quiet and convenient to the town , beach and resturants. The reception spoke good english and were more than helpful in connecting us with transfers from the hotel to the port and any other enquiries we had......kick back relax and enjoy , we certainly did!

The Paradise Hotel is located at the entrance of Hora, the main town. It is a lovely property built on the foundations of the Old Ice Factory, and has a small Folk Museum on the grounds. Just behind is a cemetery with the elaborate tombs of some of Greece's wealthiest , philanthropic families.

The decor at the hotel is mostly white and pale blue - very pretty. The rooms have high posted beds, modern bathrooms, and small balconies. The pool is a good size, and was nice and quiet while we were there. The breakfasts were the usual buffet one finds in Greece. Staff were very accommodating. The Andrian family that owned the Saint George Lycabettus in Athens built this property, too, so "SGL" logo bedspreads, bathroom ammenities, etc. can be found throughout the property. This is a great place for a 3 or 4 day escape from Athens!

Hora town is quaint, and has an adequate supply of simple tavernas. There is a great contemporary art museum called The Goulandris Museum, as well as a fantastic archaeological museum, and a nautical museum. The local architecture is beautiful, and the notable Greek families who originated from Hora and the environs have done a great job at preventing tourism from spoiling this beautiful area. One has only to compare this with Gavro or Batsi to see the fruits of their efforts.

There are two small beaches that flank this small town, though a drive to Batsi might provide a better sandy beach.
