“Italian Hospitality at it's best”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

A truly small family run hotel in a fantastic setting with views to Ravello, the mountains and distant sea. Our room (no 1) was a good size -a triple with just the 2 of us, and the same fantastic views. On half board evening meals were taken at a sister hotel run by another part of the family a few hundred yards away in the village. We swapped and had lunch on the terrace a couple of times - excellent pasta dishes with 2 specials everyday.
The family and staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. There is a large shady free car park if you hire a car or the buses offer a reasonable service from the village centre.

The pool and terrace are of good size and again have a great setting. If you want the trappings of a corporate 5 star place -identical rooms, gym, jacuzzi, dressing gowns etc. this is not the place for you. If you want a genuine part of Italy and a glimpse of real Italian life it is.

The only reason for not rating as excellent was that the breakfast is very basic, with extras like yoghurt, fruit and eggs having to be paid for - but the breakfast terrace setting is again wonderful.

This is the third time we have spent a lovely ten days in Scala at Villa Giuseppina. We just love the location and the people. The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. Having a pool at the hotel is a definite bonus and it is always clean. Lorenzo and Cecilia serve fantastic food from a comprehensive local menu and will even make a dish to order with a day's notice. A great base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast. We definitely recommend it - give Villa Giuseppina a try!

We too have just returned from this hotel and we would echo the review of our friends from Nottingham.
New friends I should say. The rooms are not huge but you dont need to stay in them. Maria at Breakfast was fab. Cecilia and Lorenzo lovely and special praise to Carla too. Wonderful views, helpful kind staff , lovely pool area and great places to visit. We made many new friends and will always remember this holiday. If you want a driver for the day ask for Antonio, a really great guy. Thank you all at Villa Giuseppina.!

We've just returned from a lovely holiday at the Villa Giuseppina and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a fabulous location with the most spectacular views. The hotel has a great family feel about it, Enzo, Cecilia and Lorenzo are very welcoming and took excellent care of us and Carla, Maria and all the staff are excellent and so helpful. We chose to stay half board, eating at La Margherita, and again we were taken great care of and the food was lovely. We'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 19 & 20 which had balconies with lovely views across to Ravello

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our holiday. Some of the rooms are a little cramped(we asked to be moved) but the welcome from the owner and staff, quality of breakfast and beautiful view when you're having breakfast more than makes up for it.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the top of the house, they're smaller and resemble ovens!

The two stars here are the staff and the view. The guests are treated with great warmth and kindness from the gentle ladies who serve breakfast through to Enzo the owner with his perpetual aura of benevolence to the powerhouses of the place, Cecilia and Lorenzo in the Bar and Carla at reception. There is no false "customer service" but a genuine humanity.
The View is 180 degrees facing Ravello across the Valley and is genuinely magnificent. Scala is a Village that gently sprawls across the whole hillside opposite Ravello and is a counterpoint of quiet calm and tradition facing the jet setters across the valley in Ravello. It is very possible to walk to Ravello , we did it most days but a degree of fitness is needed. The walks into the hills are more demanding but vastly rewarding. maps and directions are available at the hotel.
The nuts and bolts of the hotel are all fine. Very clean throughout, pool well kept with a great view no artificial heating so warmer as the season progresses but fine for me in June, breakfast simple but good and served with charm. Lunches again simple, but exceptional. Lorenzo's home made pasta is as good as it gets and the fusilli with vongole I had on the last day was the best version of the dish I have had in 30 years of eating it. I found the food at Giuseppina far far better than at the sister hotel along the road. This is a great base for all that the Amalfi coast has to offer but use boats, legs and buses. Driving is only for the experienced brave or foolhardy!
Thank you for taking care of us so well.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the Hotel Giuseppina have the benefit of the wonderful front view. I do not h...
