“Highly recommend - great hotel, staff and food”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Just back from a mother/daughter holiday at this lovely hotel and we can't recommend it highly enough. The room was clean, the food delicious - lovely buffet breakfasts, the best bruschetta we've ever had and a four course evening meal - and the staff couldn't have been better - friendly, efficient and incredibly helpful.

Very good value for money, we would certainly visit again and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing week in the sun.

What lovely, friendly, clean, comfortable hotel. Such welcoming staff. Lovely room in the 'annex'. Also Ischia itself is beautiful and not over commercialized. I will definitely go back one day, but on a B&B basis next time. But I would never ever go with Solitaire Holidays again - even if they paid me!

We booked this for our honeymoon. On arrival, we were most impressed by the lovely reception area, but we were then led across the lane to a rather dingy and tired chalet type room. I explained that this was our honeymoon and refused the room offered. So we were offered another room in the same area which was better, but not much. However, everything else about the hotel is great and we had a splendid honeymoon. Every day we relaxed by the fab swimming pool and were looked after wonderfully by the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I'd definitely go back. Reading other reviews, I'd go for a room upstairs in the main building.

Room Tip: See above - rooms in the main building are getting better reviews

Recently stayed for two weeks, with 12 in the party, and enjoyed the holiday . However, I had read trip advisor reviews beforehand and paid to "upgrade" thinking I would avoid the basement rooms, but this did not happen.Only the three rooms in the Annex (separated from the hotel by a small road) are cheaper, and if you are in the hotel you pay the upgrade price. Solitaire had five of the six rooms in the basement the first week and all six the second week. Room 50, opposite the restaurant, is in fact the best room in the basement, but on occasion you are woken at 5.45am when they open the restaurant early for guests catching the ferry to the mainland either to go home or for a day trip. Nothing but praise for the hotel restaurant and bar staff.

Just back from two weeks at the Lord Byron. The best thing about the place is the excellent staff. It is worth paying extra to have a room upstairs with a balcony. The air conditioning is real up there. They claim to have air conditioning in the basement but it is a system that just blows moisture in to the air and makes you feel wet. Do not eat the boiled eggs at breakfast. they are very old and recycled for who knows how long. Beware of pastas and main courses at dinner they are drenched in butter and oils and probably 1500 calorie courses each. . The hotel is situated nicely, very close to the centre of Forio and the pool and grounds are lovely. Pay for your lunches and eat somewhere else for dinners and have a room on the top level and then you would be in a 3 star hotel.

My wife and myself have just returned from a week on Ischia, staying at the Lord Byron.
We cannot fault either the Hotel or the superb service we received from the staff in this hotel. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived around 10 pm after a long and interesting day of travelling!
We found the staff in the hotel waiting for us and a hot meal that was most welcome and delicious.
As stated in earlier reviews if you like authentic Italian food then you will enjoy the food in this hotel. We found every meal we had there very good and wholesome.
The resort itself is delightful, we had a very enjoyable week exploring Forio and surrounding areas and found that the local population are just as friendly and helpful as any we have come across in Italy over the years, truly wonderful people.
English is not a stong suit on the island but we always got by and never received anything but good service wherever we went, the local people are very friendly.
The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and we cannot praise the whole of the staff in the hotel too highly, for their friendliness and willingness to help.
A great Holiday, many thanks to the whole staff at the Lord Byron and indeed, the whole of the people we met on this delightful Island.

Room Tip: The room we had with a balcony on the first floor (203) was excellent.

We have just come back from a week in the Lord Byron Hotel and, having never been to Ischia before, had a magical time. The hotel is small, old fashioned and set back from a busy street just on the outskirts of forio. The bus stop to get around the island is just outside and forio town centre a 5 minute stroll away. The hotel was spotless, the staff lovely and the room basic but adequate. The food was simple but authentic and delicious, breakfast a basic continental affair with really good coffee and dinner was a huge selection of anti pasti followed by a choice of pasta, rissoto or soup, followed by a choice of meat or fish followed by fruit, ice cream or a local cake. There was a lovely pool area, a covered thermal pool and nice bar area. So much to do in and around Ischia, a week wasn't long enough. Neither the hotel or island are for fussy types who expect everyone to speak English and want English style food. But if you love Italy and are prepared to try a little local life, you will love Ischia and this hotel is an affordable way to experience this
very special island
