It was a great stay and experience.

Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms were big, clean and up to an American's standards for plumbing and functionality. All what you'd expect from a top hotel.

But what really sells this place is:

1) the staff are super friendly and helpful. Some of the nicest people around. You will have made real friends with them by the end of your stay.

2) the food. I wish I ate there more often because the food was great. We ate outside the hotel most of the time because this was our first trip to ischia and we wanted to experience as much as possible. We did not have any meal,on this island that was less than superb. I was fully expecting the food at the hotel to be so so hotel food, I was wrong. The chef is actually well known on the island that the food was as good if not better than anything you can get elsewhere on the island. The hotel rest doesn't have the views that some of the island restos have but the food is excellent. The antipasto buffet (again something I expected to be avg) was excellent. I hate calling it a buffet. It was more like eating at a family style table at your Italian grandmothers house. If you want to eat off prop, go no further than the pvt beach 5 steps away to Zi Nannina. Excellent place perched on the water with killer views and prob the best food on the island.

3) the bar. Drinks are served on a veranda overlooking the pool. It's facing the sea but you can't really see it. But Bruno and Rafaelle make fantastic cocktails. They are both older guys that have an old school, play it again sam kind of feel about them. Real old school mixologist stuff, these guys are craftsmen. Everything from retro cocktails, to modern specialty cocktails to their own creation. After a while, Bruno knew us well enough to surprise us with his own creations ... All on the money. We were there every night for a pre dinner drink and a nightcap afterwards.

4) the location. Minutes away from the port, 100 feet from the pvt beach, short walk to the castle and a quick cab ride to anywhere on the island. There was always a line of cabs waiting out from whenever you needed one.

Definitely recommended, great experience and a beautifully landscaped property.

This was our ninth stay on the beautiful island of Ischia and we've sampled 3, 4 and 5 star hotels during those stays. Il Moresco was our first hotel some nine years ago and for one reason or another we haven't been back since that first visit. We subsequently stayed at the Punto Molino for a number of years and on recommendation stayed more recently at the Durrueli.

Il Moresco does come at a cost but in comparison to our more recent stay at Durrueli the brochure price does buy you some advantages. Firstly, the cuisine enjoyed on this stay was absolutely first class and there were no occasions at dinner where we were critical of the food available.

Following a first course from an excellent self service buffet, the second and main courses always pleased and added an element of surprise, and a pleasant one at that. Following this, sweet choices were also excellent as were the selections of cheeses and fresh fruit...and if that sounds simplistic I do not do the food justice.

A very extensive wine list caters for all budgets although I would personally steer clear of on one of the local reds (available also in a half bottle). Spending around 26E a bottle should however buy an acceptable wine and if you feel inclined to want to pay a lot more then you can.

Breakfast is fairly standard Italian buffet ( plenty of choice) with the added choice of scrambled egg and bacon / ham. The orange and coffee ( including cappuccinos), also a measure of my holiday enjoyment, passed my hotel taste test.

Upon reading the 'in room' hotel services guide you will be informed that 'black tie' will always be appreciated at dinner but this would appear to be a hangover from the hotel's 'Grand' past. Smart casual was acceptable whilst some male guests chose to wear a jacket and ladies tended to dress for the occasion.

The dining room is very formal and guests needs are well looked after, to some maybe too well, as waiting staff are on hand to carry a plate for you even just a few feet when collecting the self service choices.

Very young children also joined parents in the restaurant ( some in highchairs) and were accommodated without looks of disapproval, a nice sign that, despite the formality, the Italian love of family life is noticeable even in a smart hotel.

The overall ambiance of the hotel, whilst formal, is one of total relaxation and the gardens provide ideal corners to relax in the sun with the benefit 'bath water' warm water to swim in.

Snacks / drinks are available poolside but I felt this to be a little more formal on this visit rather than it was on our first stay. In addition there is a section of beach, or more accurately a bathing platform ( bagno), which guests can enjoy. This is a more relaxed environment and has more of a typical Italian beach feel about it but sea swimming is not the best here. Only snacks are available here but there are a number of bagnos within a few hundred metres of the hotel when some very tasty Italian food can be enjoyed in typical Italian beach style.

Our stay was with Thomson Holidays and their local advisor Mina was as attentive and professional as always, becoming a friend over the years rather than just somebody who represents Thomson holidays.

Back to the difficulty. Do we spend the extra few hundred and get the extra benefits of top class food, private car transfer and a hydrofoil ferry rather than the car ferry or do we go for the budget option and save a few pounds. For a cheaper week away probably the cheaper option and a stay at the equally appealing and relaxed Durrueli but Il Moresco will be tugging at the heart strings for that special treat.

Yes, that is how we were greeted by the staff on our annual visit to Il Moresco.
Everything was as usual, an expertly run hotel perfectly suited to our needs. It ticks all the boxes for our holidays, consistency, ideal location, good food, friendly staff, piano bar, spa, indoor and outdoor thermal pools, gym ,sauna, turkish bath, and where else is the manager going to greet you with a kiss on the hand, this is old school Italian charm.
Looking forward to next year, when we will see all the regulars again

We stayed here in July 2013. I have just read the review from the gentleman from Chicago and thought I had to comment. The Hotel, location food and especially the staff are superb. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone. I would certainly return. Mina the rep was great our transfers were on time and made the holiday. Go to Ischia and stay here!

After staying in positano and capri, the stay in Ischia at the Moresco was like stepping back in time. The look of the hotel, the service and the fact that they had their own beach club just down the street was just what we wanted. Our room was a deluxe, with a spacious terrace. The concierge was helpful in suggesting day trips to the hot springs and such. Breakfast buffet was real nice and without fault. We had dinner on our terrace, would recommend it to everyone. The options in the immediate vicinity of the hotel are limited. The spa options could use some help and need to be upgraded. Would recommend a stay here for sure, but would then move on to one of the coastlines.

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by name by the manager we found the hotel to be undoubtably the best we have stayed at whilst on holiday.
The ambience of the hotel and its facilities are second to none.
The chef, Giovanni, should be justifiably proud of the excellent food, and the restaurant staff were exceptionally professional and courteous. We found this to be true of all the staff from the the management to the gardeners.
Lastly but not least, Mina our fantastic holiday advisor for travel and transfer arrangements and all the other assisstance she kindly gave.
We would not hesitate to recommend the beautiful island of Ischia and the Il Moresco to anyone considering a visit.

First, we were scheduled to stay here two nights, we didn't realize the ferries from Ischia to Naples didn't run all the time though so we wanted to change the nights we stayed in Ischia. We emailed the hotel and thought everything was all set, until we got an email that nothing had been changed so for the second night of our stay we didn't have a hotel. The hotel informed us that they had no availability for the second night of our stay--fine. When we explained the situation the staff was incredibly rude. In fact, the manager came out and was yelling at my husband. As a side note---this was our honeymoon, knowning what we now know about this hotel and their staff we would have skipped this place altogether. They probably put us in the worst room in the hotel--it was right next to the reception desk and we could hear people walking through the halls all night. This was absolutely our worst experience in Italy. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Don't get a room by the reception desk--it's too noisy
